Starbound- Frackin' Universe tutorial on Item Transference Devices, and How to set up Item Networks!

SLIGHT mis-representation: at 0:50 I say that Item Networks rely on a single item, the Item Transference Device. While this is largely true, Storage Bridges are another very important component, which I explain towards the end of the video. Hopefully if you watch everything it answers all your questions!
The video's pretty long since I explain everything as in-depth as I can, but here's the short version:
-Craft a Storage Bridge and an Item Transference Device (ITD)
-Place the Storage Bridge ON THE LOWER LEFT of any container (this gives it inputs+outputs)
-Place the ITD relatively close to the container (I've heard it can be kind of far away, but better safe than sorry!)
-Connect the Storage Bridge to the ITD (RED is OUTPUT on the Storage Bridge, connected to BLUE (INPUT) on the ITD).
-Set the logic of the ITD as you wish (watch the video for details on this)
-Connect the ITD to the container you want the items to be placed.
This functionality can be expanded for a lot of things, some of which I showcase in the video. I've set up automatic "dumping" of my FU extractors/sifters/furnaces into a single chest, so I don't have to loot each one individually. I've also set up an item network for my entire farming system to auto-harvest and loot (and very broadly sort!) my animal, plant, and bee products. Many players seem to use the setup that I showcase first in the video- after a long mining/harvesting spree, they dump all their loot into a chest, and ITDs sort out all the items into their appropriate containers.
If you have any questions, PLEASE ask! I'm happy to help you sort out any issues you're having. If you're looking for more involved setups, I can help you brainstorm how best to set it up.
You can catch me on twitch at / adarkspirit or follow me on twitter at @adarkspirit1. I've been playing a ton of Frackin' Universe lately- there's a 40-some hour Let's Play on my channel if you're looking for more FU content.
Thanks for watching!

@@adarkspirit7942 It took me like 3-5 hours to set up my own item sorter. Mostly because metal bars don't have a type of their own so I had to link like 5 ITDs to identify each bar from Iron to Isogen. Oh and before that, I managed to make a network that will power my quantum reactors indefinitely! From water to liquid deutrium. Complete with waste management... Now I have no idea what to do with all this hydrogen and oxygen tho. Now I'm planning on setting up an advance plastic and tungsten factory... need some tests with the condenser first tho. Really thank you for this tutorial!

MAGNIFICENT. I've been intimidated by getting into item networking, but the information you've presented here was easy to understand and, frankly, inspiring. I applaud thee! Now my supervillain may focus more on conquering rather than item management. I didn't even realize that I was playing an evil warehouse employee until now.

I'm trying to set up the ITD's with some Hydro trays; I have the output of the trays going to the input of the ITD, then the ITD output going to a fridge from there, but it's not moving the items. I've got all 5 item slots filled in the ITD and have used both type and category but still nothing. Any help would be appreciated!
@adarkspirit7942
@adarkspirit7942 3 жыл бұрын
Do you have the storage bridge on the fridge? Some containers have "built-in" inputs or outputs, but those aren't compatible with item networks unless you specifically use a storage bridge. The bridge needs to be on the lower-left "square" of the fridge as well; anywhere else and the bridge will not recognize the container. If you want all outputs from the tray to be taken into the container, make sure you are changing the logic on the ITD to "inverse" and add input slots 1, 2, 3 (those are the slots on the trays that are the seeds/liquids/ferts, which of course you don't want moved). This will tell the game to NOT pull the items in the input container in slots 1, 2, and 3. You shouldn't need to worry about types and categories at all because you probably want to take ALL outputs anyways, so just that logic should work! Hope this helps you.

@@adarkspirit7942 I've got a storage bridgev2 on the lower left of my fridge, I set up another fridge on top of that set up with a storage bridgev2 as well and that one is connected to it's own set of crops and an ITD. I cleared my current set up to default then added input slots 1, 2, and 3 to my ITD's and clicked the inverse logic under the input box and still wasn't able to get the items to move 😭 Do I need anything in the actual item slots of the ITD? Do I have to add the output slots? So far this is more help than I've gotten anywhere else and I can't thank you enough for all these videos and feedback!

@@waaalaa55523 So a good test to make sure it works at all is to not add ANY logic to it and ensure that it moves items in the first place. Forget about the logic for now and wire up the ITD between tray and container. If putting items in the tray does not immediately transfer them to the container, then you're doing something wrong. That's the first step.

@@adarkspirit7942 Hmmm, I think I'm missing something obvious (besides just trying a blank set up, I didn't do that before 😅). I set up a tray with ITD to a chest, didn't add any logic, wired output of tray to input 1 (and tried input 2) of the ITD then output of ITD to input of my chest with the storage bridgev2 and putting things in either the input or output of the tray doesn't move them over. I'm combing through my mods to see if there could be any potential conflicts but I can't see anything that would even affect something like wiring an ITD to a container. Besides Frackin only Elithian races and Stardust are the notable mods that change anything.

@ADarkSpirit Update: I cleared everything, rewired it all again, this time to input 2 of the ITD, and now it appears to be working. 😁 Thank you for putting up with the random questions and helping me figure this out, I don't know why that was so difficult for me hahah

It's been quite some time since I've done much in Starbound, but there is an item you can add to item networks called a "Terminal", and it will give you an interface to search for crafting materials in all connected chests.

Late question: how are you getting 300 storage slots????
@adarkspirit7942
@adarkspirit7942 8 ай бұрын
From the mod Enhanced Storage! It's amazing and I can't recommend it enough. There are natural 300 slot containers, but you can also turn ANY container into a 300 slot one. 300 slot chests/lockers/fridges are SUPER useful.

So basically what I have set up is a different container for each block type descending down. I have a container @ the top that I want to be sort out all the blocks I put into it into my many boxes. Is there anyway to make this happen? Do I need a different Item Transference Device for each box & is there anyway to stretch out the network length between? My storage containers run down pretty far & I wanted it all to be one succinct Block Network.
@adarkspirit7942
@adarkspirit7942 3 жыл бұрын
You need an ITD for each destination you want to be placing items in. So if you have every block being sorted out, that unfortunately means you need an ITD for every block type (i.e. Rough Dirt, Sandstone, Iron Ore, etc). It can all be connected certainly (especially if you want to be using a Terminal, which I strongly recommend!), but yeah it does get obnoxious given the limited logic of the ITD.

The really large ones? I believe those are thanks to Enhanced Storage by Neo. Strong recommendation! It makes ITD stuff really helpful, since having 300-slot input/output containers can make a huge QOL difference.

how did you get such a huge inventory?
@adarkspirit7942
@adarkspirit7942 Жыл бұрын
It's thanks to bk3k's inventory mod! It gives a ton of extra inventory space, along with more organizing "tabs". Super great quality of life, especially if you start adding mods to your game! FU has so many different items that it's almost required to have that extra inventory space.

I am looking for a ME system like in Minecraft. To store every item like water, healing water in different containers and to just have to open a console from where I can call for any of the stored items. Can Frackin Universe do that?
@adarkspirit7942
@adarkspirit7942 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with Minecraft at all, but as far as FU goes I can tell you- it definitely can, but you'll need an ITD for each container you want to pull items in to, and possibly multiple ITDs if you want to pull very specific items.
