I like how this story doesn't have any victor. Every faction lost the war: - The Protoss were crushed militarily, and the Matriarch is dead. - The Dominion was crushed. - The UED taskforce was wiped out. - The Zerg have it even worse. They seemingly won on the battlefield, but have the worst outcome. Their Overmind is dead, and they are controlled by an infested Terran who doesn't have any loyalty for the Swarm. Because of their hive mind, they can't even try to overthrow her, or to reform an Overmind. They have no hope of ever becoming true Zerg again. - Finally, Kerrigan "won". And what did she win exactly? She is neither human nor Zerg, and she has no one left to betray, nor to wage war against. She can spend eternity in solitude and boredom, ruling over purposeless creatures. Give it a few years, and she'll probably regret the Zerg didn't kill her on Tarsonis.

This would be gold, if you don't consider SC2 inside of the storyline. However, if you did play ALL brood war the secret mission leaves the cliffhanger of the hybrid topic. With that in mind, then the comment is a little off even though the part of everyone else is completely accurate but Kerrigan's

The UED was so confident in the beginning of the campaign, and in the end not a single ship made it back to Earth. Complete and utter defeat at the hands of the Zerg is a brutal thing.

Well they were very close to winning, just Raynor, Artanis, Fenix and Zeratul held idiot balls to allow Kerrigan to fuck all of them over. Aldaris saw they were holding idiot balls and got blown up for it. Dugalle trusted Duran (a traitor he despises) over his friend for little reason and paid for it with his campaign. Also the UED did not expect Xel'Naga shapeshifters..

And not the bullshit prophecies, bullshit romance, cookie cutter dry characters without any life to them and a story so generic it can safely be assumed that it wasn't even written by people and was actually ran through an automated factory? SC2's plot and characters were so phoned in they accrued long-distance charges. Artanis is a fucking duck, and thats what he has always been. Just slapping "Hierarch" on his name and giving him Friendship Is Magic powers doesn't change that. Kerrigan is pretty fucking bold to tell DuGalle that Alexei was twice the man he was, when she currently is not classifiable as a flat character since the two-dimensionals can at least have a shot at being interesting one-notes. Oh well, atleast we got Alarak being witty out of it. So thats some worth.

It gets worse: in the canceled game SC: Ghost, one of the planets you visit, Abaddon, is partially held by UED forces. The game takes place post-Brood War (4 years after, but recently it was retconned to just 3 in 2503), so these forces are what's left of the Expeditionary Force. The mission required you retrieve a Grizzly (new Terran flying unit) and its engineer from the Korprulu Liberation Front who took over the Dominion depot holding it. Here is all the content pertaining to that planet in the game: starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Abaddon One of the merc groups in Wings of Liberty, Spartan Company, was once part of the UED fleet. By technicality, the UED is a persistent faction as the home world for it is Earth. The UED was formed from the previous Earth government, the United Powers League, so it more than likely still exists.

It's like after they saw complaints they went back an actually played BW for reference. That's why Stukov shows up in HOTS, and they reference the sad song record player thing like twice. It even plays on the main menu now sometimes lol.

It took me two decades to realize why Starcrafts story left so much more of an impact as the stories of other games or even SC2. The (at the time) flashy cinematics and the battle scenes might have been what have drawn my inner child in, but it was what was happening to the characters, and this voice that made it stand out from just another dazzling display. You can feel the despair, the resignation at accepting ones fate, the loss as Dougalle is about to end it, unable to face his failure and his own guilt at having been duped to betray his friend.

1:49 I just love that few seconds of UED and Dominion marine standing side by side. Even if the 3 factions had united to defeat Kerrigan in the last mission, there would've been a rigid tension between all of them. Hell, in Dominion's eyes, UED were bombarding and invading their very capitol planet only like a few weeks ago (with tons of civilian casualties occurring as all wars do) while Protoss who've battled both Dominion and UED would've doubted both Terran forces, knowing how very few humans can be trusted. Gameplaywise, all 3 factions' bases are located with some distance from each other too. Yet, the threat of the zerg swarm was so great that all order and tension between them must've broke down and forced them to truly unite just for survival. All of this conveyed in 4 seconds!!!

The news of the defeat would have reached the UED. After all, the UED knew about the events that preceded their fleet's arrival. In the lore, the reason given for the UED never responding is they were simply too busy. The UED was a fascist dictatorship that emerged from a particularly turbulent period in Earth's history. It was never the epitome of stable governance. So in the time since the Expeditionary Fleet was deployed, internal squabbles had taken priority. But yeah, his touching final farewell and revelation about Stukov very likely never reached Earth.

I know im not the only one who wants to see the UED return
@jarynn8156
@jarynn8156 11 ай бұрын
If I recall correctly, the UED has 10 fleets under its command. The Expeditionary Fleet was maybe a 10th of the size of one of those fleets. They also stripped the fleet of a lot of their most advanced technology to both make the journey to the Koprulu Sector easier and to prevent the Dominion from being able to reverse engineer their technology should the worst happen. And yet that fleet was able to subjugate the Zerg, conquer the Dominion, and even send the Protoss packing. They stripped the fleet down because the UED was utterly paranoid. Its a fascist, xenophobic dictatorship. Everything they did was about protecting Earth from even the most remote of perceived threats. In this case, their concern was that the Dominion was so utterly mismanaging the Zerg threat that it would inevitably snowball out of control and threaten Earth itself. That propaganda video at the end of the UED campaign seems to pretty accurately reflect UED mindsets about the situation. The Brood War opening cinematic also shows that the Zerg are the real motivation for getting out there, and that they are afraid of the Zerg's aggressiveness.

@@jarynn8156 Another interesting thing about the UED is that very few of their units have actually been seen and all of them were absolutely cracked asf with long-lasting legacies and influences in Korprulu Terran warfare technology. Medics, Spartan Company Goliaths, and Valkyries would lead to pseudo reverse engineering to eventually lead to the Medivac, Viking, and Liberator. We've never seen the UED's combat infantry, heavy vehicle, specialist, or flagship units. Even the battlecruisers used in Brood War were all stolen since the Alexander was the only heavy air unit present which never even fought.

Sure, the gameplay was fun and engaging but the story always seemed like it was rolling down the hill towards its end. Blizzard, well it rolled down the hill years ago. For any consumer that has tasted the olden products, they may believe in that company no longer. All they stand for now is the greed they inherited from the publisher Acitivision that acquired them... Though, know this, I still bear some shred of hope. They retconned and remade the Modern Warfare series. Change opens new doors for opportunities, and with how the kids these days gobble up anything these game companies push out it doesn't matter anyway. Maybe, they will retcon and remake Starcraft as well. Hopefully just the parts right after WoL. I just am not a fan of how the story turned out. It feels like it proceeded in its own bubble. The UED was clearly a force to be reckoned with, even with the downfall of their expeditionary fleet. The universe within the franchise, should be expansive. Think 40k. So many chapters of the legendary Space Marines, so many groups, and factions, and lore. You could even make your own. I hope the RTS genre comes back into the mainstream. Not just in the form of MOBAs and other stuff. I feel it would teach the kids from these days to learn teamwork and cooperation, by making them manage units, seeing the consequences of their actions. Anyway, this is very long and I do not know why I did this, but I will go shoot myself with optimisim now. Au revoir.

@@CommissarChaotic I don’t make special expectations, any new stuff on StarCraft would be a fresh breath for franchise. I like StarCraft 2 as well, because it has more dynamic and convenient gameplay. If they release StarCraft 3 - I suppose it will be either some completely new stuff, or some spin off where UED has a major role. Any option looks at least interesting. I love the old series, sometimes play Brood War, but still as a game engine I like StarCraft 2 better. They have BILLIONS of money - do you still think that they will f**ck the release up? I do 🙂but still, I don’t leave my optimism as they at least have capabilities to make a really great game. So my hope is alive. Everything dies, but StarCraft is not dead yet, and must not be, because this game has fans like us

Well, by Starcraft 2, I think Stukov or rather entire sector finally managed to finish what he started even if he's infested. - Emperor Mengsk is finally killed by Stukov's aid, but the successor Valerian happened to be reasonable enough to make the Terran Dominion a better place. - Zerg finally retreated except for splinter cells, excluding butt load of civilians killed along the way. All worlds of Koprulu became fertile and lush worlds as Kerrigan ascended to a higher plane. - Protoss finally united and stopped the dark one.

You really see in this just how bad things were going, UED and Terran Dominion troops working together, 2 sworn enamys together trying to fight off the Zerg. And The Protoss were along side them as well. And they all lost. Not even the 3 armys working together could win.

It’s definitely playable. A lot of the gameplay is very much like the original, but some elements were taken away, and some elements were added or changed. Unit pathing is vastly improved (in the original, I’d wonder what the hell my Vulture was doing way off on the other side of the map from my army). The campaign play isn’t very challenging, though-I mean, I of all people can finish several missions on Brutal (hardest) with no problem. That’s just not right.

Blizzard has made the best RTS ever, i don't care if graphics are better StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War were the best things i've ever played. The stories are flawless and perfect, and led perfect cliffhangers. StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty was the hardest thing a SC player would deal with, if it sucked then it would've ended up like CnC4. But it wasn't it was another epic part of the saga of the Koprulu Sector, once again Blizzard inspires Sci-Fi like Tolkien inspires fantasy.

I wonder why no message ever got back to the UED. I mean, did they not send any subspace communications? If the people on Earth can detect the Protoss and Zerg from their home planet, couldn't they have communicated with the UED? Seems weird. Also, couldn't the remaining UED fleet go into warp speed to escape?

@Keac666 is this a serious question? if so: these are pre-rendered sequences, meaning several machines calculated lighting and textures and everything you see frame by frame. this process used to be very expensive and took a long time to complete. the ingame engine has to calculate everything in real time so you can interact with it. computers couldnt handle the quality of pre-rendered sequences in real time, this remains true as the quality of such sequences still improves. cheers :)

i liked both sc1 and sc2 stories,tho it's pretty obvious that writters have changed,sc2 was more focused on raynor and kerrigan love story than the other serious plot points,and altho he obviously did have a relationship with her in brood war,after killing milions to just forgive her like that seems unbelievable,it makes no sense that in brood war duran hid his aliegence to amon from kerrigan if she too was controlled by him as it was shown in the bonus missoon of brood war when zeratul discovers duran and his hybrids,also xelnaga are technologically superior race to anything in the universe and are multiversal beings,they are not suppose to actually be gods with magic,they were worshiped by the protoss as such only because in their early days they didn't understand what technology is until they did.

One interquel campaign I would like to make would involve the Captain stepping in to save as many of the UED remnant forces as possible, as Kerrigan slaughters the fleet. With his ragtag forces, beaten and exhausted, the Captain forges alliances with various mercenaries, in an effort to survive as Kerrigan’s cerebrate pursues them.

So true that it's so true. When you play sc1, watch its cinematic videos or just listen to the music, you feel different emotions (usually a little depressing, mysterious and sad). To bad that they don't have much of that in sc2. Even though the gameplay is mostly improved, I find that there's still something big missing...

I remember at 15 when I finally beat the campaigns legitimately. And I was invested in the story. I essentially threw my hands up and said, "it'll never top this." Sure, games would be graphically more superiour, but by my thinking, developers by now KNEW how to do narratives. Starcraft wasn't flawless, but by god it was a measuring stick for others on how to invest their players in narratives. 25 years (?) later, I'm still only rarely as invested as this. It still happens, gaming isn't "dead" or anything, but this stuff will not be amongst the AAA developers any longer. Sadly.

I like how the DUT was more menacing for the Kuprulu sector than Amon itself lol, yes Amon corrupted the Khala but the DUT also put in great danger the protoss, yes Amon has his own Swarm, but at least Kerrigan's is more numerous and powerful, the DUT almost destroyed the Swarm and finally Amon has the Moebious Corps but the DUT literally crushed the dominion, in the last only the human pride was the worst and last error of Stukov and DuGalle

@SouthernRiprey well considering that the UED came with maybe 1 or 2 battlecruisers a few wraiths and valkeries and as Chris Metzen put it the UED got most of their forces locally specifically the shipyards you capture then I should hope that wasnt all they had. Zerg or Protoss before the zerg hit them could still easily destroy it though.

SC2 has better graphics, and better voice-acting for dialogue although the unit voices suck. But better plot? Please. Does he even know what the word means? SC1 was down-to-Earth, cerebral. Much detail went into the lore, detail that SC2 hasn't managed to deliver with its own story despite the great potential of the between-mission Hyperion/Leviathan scenes. And stuff like a doomsday prophecy? Please. It's dramatic and immersive in its own way, but it's not Starcraft, not as it was before.

I'm also gonna say that bw actually had the better voice acting. Sometimes in SC2 you can tell the lines are read from a script with little investment by the actors. Kerrigan's stuffers the most from this. In bw we had great moments for the voice actors like the death of Stukov, the reveal of the hybrids by Duran, every dialogue between Tassadar and Aldaris, Kerrigan's mockery of Zeratul when he killed Raszagal, etc.
