We need gold to do lots of things in Stardew Valley, but what if you couldn't even move anywhere without spending gold?! I'll be doing a perfection run with the Tileman Challenge mod where I'll have to buy my way around the map, and the cost will increase a bit over time, too 🫣

@@emmalutionit's not lol - for some reason the price scaling isn't actually what it says, from my experience. it scales much faster, it actually just costs 7 bucks per cell at that point. i think you're just cheesing some semi-broken system that helps you get unstuck if you get teleported into a block after a cutscene, like at the fishing cutscene

@@pegfingers@emmalution actually the display is just bugged so it never increases, but the price per tile is increasing at the rate selected in the beginning. The money accumulation when you run into things is a feature meant to help players not to softlock. Emma is abusing it a little bit but I would absolutely never have the patience to play this so I'd say she's earned it

@@emmalution there's another KZfaqr, captain Canadian, who is doing the same challenge (more or less) and he made his own patch that fixes the display price for buying tiles. You could see if you can reach out to him and get his patch so that you don't have to do all the same debugging

The thing where you slowly earn the gold to purchase a tile if you keep walking into it is probably for festival softlock prevention, given that the tile to leave the festival is one you need to purchase as far as I've seen for the festivals so far and time would be infinitely paused at a festival with no way to pass out or sleep otherwise.

I think Joja would be too easy. I mean, as soon as you have the path there, you technically are fine. You can plant seeds on your tiles, maybe get a few more and fish the rest of the day. Boring? Yes, but that's basically the only things you need. It would maybe even be possible to do it in year one then. But with the Community Center it would be REALLY challenging. You do not only need to get to it, but also to all the places where you can get the things for the CC! This would be a heck of a challenge.

I agree, I think joja would be boring. It would just be grindy, plant as many most effective seeds as possible and fish as much as possible and….that’s it. CC would mean having to actually try and find a wide array of things to donate which would require unlocking more of the map!

new series!!! To do the CC would be more fun I think, and to buy every tile on the map, or at least certain routes? Like having to buy all the tiles in a CC room to "unlock" it before donating? Or buying all the tiles in a friends room when you reach two hearts? To do the maze on Halloween is going to be so expansive!

This challenge interests me but ALL the other videos ive seen the mod is bugged so it charges more coins faster than it should. And the reason why its giving you coins when you are at 0 and walking in a blocked tile is because the game thinks youve somehow gotten yourself stuck and is giving you coins to free yourself so you dont get softlocked in place

It’d be nice to have another level where the increase per tile is per season and/or year too! I think that would be a more sustainable progression that’s a little easier than level 1 I think. But that’s mod is still amazing and great work by the creator!

Excited to see that you're doing the tile man challenge! This seems like a hard challenge but you've done the one-life challenge before, so I know you'll make it through somehow! A CC run should be fun since it's more challenging in this format! I think using some mods to help somewhat is viable in this challenge, like the chests anywhere mod, or something like the minecarts mod because you'd still have to buy the tiles to get to the minecarts or those chests but it would still help. Great video! Can't wait to see what you do in the next episodes!

I haven't actually watched anyone else for a weird reason of, like, I've seen a couple people doing streams of it while I wasn't in the mood to watch a stream...but this seems like the kind of challenge I don't just want to jump into the middle? seems to me like with this challenge the joja route would actually be the easy way out. think about it. for the joja route you just need to reach joja and earn gold via farming or fishing. for community center you need to go all over and find so many things. sure, if you aim for perfection you'll need to do everything eventually anyways, but early game will be easier with joja.

I agree that doing a week at a time in this series would mean short unsatisfying videos, there’s gonna be a lot of days where nothing very much happens so I think an every two weeks or even an every season per episode would be good depending on how many actually interesting things happen! One thing that may be interesting is if there’s a counter you could add to the mod that would count how much you’ve spent on tiles total so at the end we could see how many millions it took to buy all the paths!

I always keep the joja colas for quests and energy. I'd rather have the energy and I don't think they sell for much if at all. Edit: forgot to say I like the video oops, I have too much adhd for the longer streams but your edited down videos are *chefs kiss* and I LOVE the loot reviews

Hopefully someone has told you this by now, but if you hover over an item in your inventory, the community center icon on the right side will pulse/light up so that you know that item is still needed for a bundle 😻 hope this helps for your future runs!

If you’d like to make it a tad bit easier, the warp network mod can get you to the warp points in the mountains and the beach so you can at least save a few tiles trying to get places.

The running into tiles thing is likely a soft lock prevention, but there is no paying back tiles, the scaling just doesn’t show up.

The price increasing isn't paying back what you 'borrowed', it's just the price naturally increasing. Regarding the free money you're given, I'm guessing it's more of an anti-softlock feature. For example, at the egg hunt, if you bought too many strawberries, you could accidentally softlock yourself without the free gold.

think the reason i thought it was "borrowed" was that i am sure i saw it take 7G when i still had money. the max cost on my difficulty level is 5G and that's not til 10,000+ tiles! could have read wrong though :)

@@emmalution It was actually taking 8G to buy tiles, but I just checked, and you were already at 8G per tile before you started charging money up. At 6:01, you spent 16G when buying two tiles (59 -> 43), and you didn't discover the free tile thing until you ran out of money a few seconds later

I think a Joja run makes the most sense since that's the corporate sellout route and that's kind of what you're doing. you're literally paying for the right to walk around. Very dystopian corporate vibes.

i thought originally it was borrowing the gold but what really happened was that i was using the softlock prevention, then when buying tiles on future days the pricing was bugged 😂 didnt get this at first but i do now!

i've ended up changing how i approach some things in this playthrough because the tiles dont always save so it's already made it harder by having to rebuy the tiles!
