Like Bethesda Game Studios' past titles, Starfield has the potential to become something much bigger in the coming years. Whether you enjoyed it or not at launch, the developer has made significant strides to improve the experience. On May 15th, its biggest update yet goes live, offering some truly game-changing features.
There are now proper Surface Maps, with major cities having markers to fast travel to. Gameplay options let you adjust everything from enemy damage to carrying capacity and even where you can access the ship's cargo from. Extreme difficulty should provide a more challenging experience for experienced players, while ship designers will appreciate the expanded interior decorating options.
Those are some of the big changes in this update, but there's even more in store. Join us as we dissect the May Update and its various other improvements.

It’s popular to hate on Starfield but I’ve put in near a hundred hours and I really like it, the recent update video give me hope and I really think it’ll be even better by the time the Shattered Space dlc comes out. For me it’s like a solid 7/10, I don’t think it’s amazing but I have a pretty good time with it.

Completely agree with. Bethesda went for quantity over quality with the exploration and it really hurt the experience. That and all the damn loading screens. BG3 also really elevated the standards for rpg’s and to some extent cyberpunk and Bethesda needs to take note.

I am always so curious about opinions like these, how is it you can play 100 hours and give something a 7? I'm not disagreeing with the score. I think i'd give it a 7 too, judging by how it was at launch. And as a result I couldn't keep playing after 20ish hours, even though I have a 1000 hours with Skyrim and Fallout 4 combined. Not hating, just trying to understand.

@@JT-zy2ft what do you play the game on that loading screens are THAT much of an issue. On pc Loading screens for me are barely even noticable in the Bethesda game sense. like Sub 3 seconds or less

@@Jerbear889 Xbox series x but coming from a game like cyberpunk where you can do and interact with pretty much everything without a loading screen. Same with BG 3. It’s just with how starfield is setup you’re seeing a lot of loading screens for everything you do.

@@JT-zy2ft Cyberpunk is also one City that is pretty small in KM squared, and BG3 is a top down RPG with little to no Physics engines. Great game but not as much depth as a BGS game, gameplay wise. Storychoices sure.

Might check it out now… it would have been nice to want to play it at launch though. I’ve never been a massive Bethesda fan but I’ll consider seeing what Starfield has got now especially with my difficulties involving navigation as a whole with RPGs in particular.

i logged 180hrs within the first 6 weeks of it coming out. new game+10, level 80.. all the good stuff. then encountered a game breaking bug and lost everything. It's been very hard to get back into the game since. Very glad to see some nice updates finally coming through. Certainly getting closer to the point of being worth trying it again

I’m one of those people that paid £100 for early access on this game played it for the first two weeks and never went back to it. Thought it was crap… I’ve reinstalled it on the series X and I’m waiting for the update to give this a second attempt.

Iv done over 250 temples maxed all the powers to 10 and im still stoked for the update , got everything ready for my last jump , fingers crossed ita a good galaxy 😊

Agreed. I'll give a pass to devs like HelloGames because they were a tiny indie studio that got thrust into a world they weren't at all prepared for. But Bethesda? They're one of the biggest AAA game development and publishing companies, on top of being owned by one of the biggest tech companies in the world. They flat ass do not have any excuse for this shit.

And they didn't even fix the worst thing about the game: it's a fucking loading screen simulator. It's so bad I'm surprised you can open and close your inventory without a loading screen. Reminds me of being back in the Morrowind days.. 20 years ago.

It´s really a shame that the feature of patching a game once was just tweaking it and a little bit of fixing a game and was seen as an advantage and now it is just exploited (a lot).

I think it's more so investors and whatnot wanting the product out now rather than later. I'm not in the business so idk for sure. I also think the people praising the devs are just happy they're able to enjoy their game. I mean, just look at how they turned cyberpunk around. Bethesda needs to do an overhaul similar to what CDPR did. I know we're certainly not okay with this though. If you have a petition to make it a law to make sure the game is absolutely finished before releasing it I'll gladly sign it, man. Haha Take care.

I really hope they might add seamless planetary landings ! I would really enjoy flying down to the planets and taking off ! This was a feature that very much disappointed me that was not in the game ! I hope one day they can add this feature ! 💯

Hope they fix the bug at outposts when trees and other flora grow through your landing pads, habs, or anything else you place!! A landscaping tool would have been helpful as well

I'm so excited ngl. Finally an update with some actual meat. And I know the game is not everyone's favorite and I respect that but I believe it has potential. Many games launched in less than ideal states but managed to turn things around, like Destiny, No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk etc. I'm giving it this year. If by the end of 2024 the game hasn't made any signifigant improvments then I'll likely move on. Until then tho I'll be intrepidly sailing the blackest sea.

I might revisit it but i've already played the main questline, which I enjoyed. I understand why others don't like it, the emptyness of procedural planets is definitely a sore point. Side quests are great though, expect nothing less from Bethesda.

The vehicle addition makes a lot of sense but it still doesn’t change the fact that there’s nothing really worth exploring on the planets. Choosing quantity over quality was a big mistake.

@@JT-zy2ft Well I think they kind of painted themselves into a corner with the scale they were going for. They wanted to make a game abt space exploration so inherently there had to be a lot of planets/systems etc, one could argue they went a little overboard, so it would be nearly impossible to handcraft every single one of theos spaces. So I understood some procedural generation would be necessary. Where I agree with you and where I think Bethesda really missed the mark was not including more handcrafted "unique" spaces/experiences sprinkled here and there for you to stumble upon amongst all the procedurally generated content. Like stumbling onto secret room within a compound you may have cleared a dozen times before but this time there's a chance to have something unusual happen, these could have been used for further exposition abt the verse its lore or its factions. You know like a diamond in the rough that makes slogging through all the copy/pasta procedural generation feel in some way more worthwhile.

OMG, I played this game for 500 hours at lauch and made it all the way to NG7 before I just got tired of the navigation and loading screen annoyances. I am coming home, Sarah. I left her at a base called Dauntless on Eta Casseopia that was right near her ship of the same name for the past 8 months. Andreja and Sam are there, too, so don't worry. Stopping hitting on me and you can come there too, Barrett.

Yeah the whole randomly generated planets was a mistake. Exploring is really boring since most of the planets are empty. Which in reality is probably accurate but makes for a poor game experience.

Well, they don't change the game do they... they should have been in day 1. These are not game changers at all. It might change how you navigate a map, and your not going to care about a camera angle when talking to npc, after 5 minutes. This also must be one of the rare occasions 60fps wont help it, because the issues a fundemental issues with the base game. It just makes a boring tedious game, a boring and tedious game in 60fps. I have had over 60fps on my pc since the release, and no, thats not the issue with the game. And no... im not a free loading xbox gamepass moaning, i paid for the £99 premium version on steam. I have 15.3 hours on record and stopped, because its terrible. I actually booted up fallout 76 to see how bad that was...and stayed n played for just over 200 hours, so for me, starfield is a dud. But it might be better...in 5 years ? Like 76 took to get to being good ? No idea, but with only 5k starfield players daily on steam whom have all probably installed lots of mods. Im sorry but i did not pay £99 ($125) to have to rely on a modding community desperately trying to save the game. I expect a game to be bloody complete on purchase thank you very much bethesda. Im not holding out its enough to support it. Skyrim has a solid 20 to 30k daily still since 2016. In fact morrowind from 2002 released game still has 500 daily players... Shame, as i am super old, and been playing bethesda since daggerfall. (And was 23 yrs old when even that dropped in 96').

Not just point and click in a menu all the time like in starfield. Oh, and I have been a gamer for over 30 years. I know what a good game looks like. And starfield is not.

Nah but the Outpost stuff and material farming is so garbage, should've kept it simple like they did with Fallout 4. Had a blast making settlements but outpost in Starfield is just so bad. So I can't honestly be excited for customizing in the ship...

Allow us to choose where the doors & ladders go in our ships! I don't care about loading screens, maps, or FPS! The main quest is just an annoying faction quest that we are forced to start! There should have been about six different main quests for different character arcs for the player to choose between! Two hero, two villain, and two neutral storylines for us to choose! Stop making games with narrow & shallow storylines!

These sound like good changes, but unfortunately, I don’t think that there is any amount of changes that can feasibly be made that could potentially save the game. Because the problem is things like the dialogue and the story and the voice acting and inherent problems with the engine.

So we still don't get ship dismantling? I don't understand why they continue to leave out this important feature, and who made the choice not to include it from the beginning. The whole piracy mechanic is so much fun, one of the most amazing parts of the game in my opinion, but then you're left with ships that are mostly worthless. I want to collect good parts and put them on my main ship. I mean the game literally has a skill called "Starship Design" but doesn't let me actually propelry tinker with my ship.

Bro, this might come as a complete shocker but people have different opinions. I never thought the game was bad I like the combat I like the space fighting I like building ships at no point did I want to be able to land my ship that shit seems cool for five minutes and then tedious so that gripe was never a problem for me. I always go straight to my map and fast travel. My biggest gripe was that I was always over encumbered, and had to huff it back to my ship idk that’s just me

Cyberpunk was broken at launch. Starfield was not at all. If anything it was too bug free for a Bethesda game. I spent over 250 hours within the first couple weeks thinking id have to put aside till its patched. Needed none of that..

I love how Todd and these games “journalists” (activists) are desperately trying to make starfield relevant now. It’s too little too late. Space vehicles or not the damn game is boring and fucking sucks. These outlets can post all the starfield propaganda they want it’s not gonna change the fact the whole game is such a massive disaster that even modders gave up on it. This game will never get a resurgence of players like cyberpunk stop kidding yourselves. It’s dead and gone.
