Yea, I think Nintendo's decision to delay Tears of the Kingdom and release it in a highly polished state really emphasized the importance of delivering a game that's refined from the start. So, I believe Bethesda is making the right call by taking some additional time to ensure a well-polished release.

To be honest, Bethesda did themselves no favors here by: 1. Starting on a planet instead of space 2. Picking an entirely grey-brown featureless planet (but with earth sky, making it appear bland instead of at least feeling moon-like). 3. Picking a completely grey generic dungeon with the same bandits/raiders/pirates from every game 4. Using only a perfectly normal shotgun and perfectly normal assault rifle, the two most generic weapons that exist Aside from two (second long) low-G jumps, The first 6 minutes of the video basically look like someone's mod for Fallout 4- and not a particularly interesting one at that. Looking at the video again it actually gets pretty great after that, but I honestly didn't remember any of this stuff. I'm not sure if it's because I actually stopped watching or just wasn't paying attention anymore. Some things in the direct are clearly actual improvements, but I think it's also just a much better showcase.

You ready your pistol, prepare your space suit, and take the first steps off your ship. You scan the new terrain, and a human lifeform pops up. “Odd,” you think to yourself, “I thought this place was unexplored.” You approach, finally seeing the person. He’s a black male. I don't know if I agree. When games were small, it was easy enough with a couple of testers to wrap them up and release it, since there wouldn't be a possibility of updating them (I'm talking old games like Super Mario 64, that it is full of bugs, but only for someone putting the effort to find them, not for the average gamer). Right now, I'd say polish the main story line, ensure no game-breaking bugs are present on side quests and no save-game related or server connection issues that would prevent someone from playing. Outside of that, I'm fine with them polishing it on the go. If not, this game would stay in development for another year, then some crazy executive might want to add something more in it, and we would still get a mess in the end... IF we got something at this point (sometimes they just cancel the game altogether)

I’m so excited for this game, and I really hope this can be a win for Bethesda. I am curious though, can you actually make planetfall through atmospheric entry similar to reality? Or do you just cruise around through the void until you reach a planet/moon/asteroid/station etc and then select a landing zone and proceed to a load screen and then presto change-o you’re on the pad? Also, if that is the case I really hope there aren’t similar load screen barriers between solar systems as well.

@@alexhein1738 Because this game aims to have a certain degree of realism. So, most planets won't have an atmosphere. This means most planets will also be icy or rocky. Doesn't mean there can't be interesting stuff on it (i.e. Pirate camps, caves with resources, abandoned facilities). But it does mean there won't be weather systems. This doesn't mean there won't be ANY planets with weather systems, but atmospheric planets will have to be less numerous than ones without. Life bearing planets will have to be rare and lush life bearing planets rarer still. This also makes sense from a design perspective; you make something cool or special through rarity. No Man's Sky has the issue of being boring because every planet is virtually the same, despite how differently they be in appearance.

I'm cautiously excited about this. Looks like No Man's Sky + Mass Effect + Fallout. Problem with games like this they tend to be buggy for a long time due to the breadth of the game you have RPG mechanics and story, structure building, space combat and flight mechanics, etc resulting in developers and QA spread too thin to fully test every area.

@Whoseitwhatnow Listen, I apologize for coming at you super hard about it, I'm just so, sooo very tired of all the cynicism directed towards Starfield. The game looks great and it's coming from a legendary RPG developer in Bethesda Game Studios, people act like FO76 is everything they've ever done, and always neglect to mention the fact that the core Maryland BGS team (Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Fallout 4) have put out multiple RPG/GOTY titles back to back. It's like it's become the "Cool" thing todo no, is tohate on everything they do, even when itlooks fucking awesome like STarfield does. That's all I'm saying

@SuperAdventureR1301 2 жыл бұрын
I have no doubt there'll still be a few dozen hand crafted planets that will be more than enough to explore and give you that Bethesda world feel. Something a lot of people skip over is that all the other procedurally generated planets are basically an empty sandbox for modders. I personally believe this could become the most modded game in existence if everything goes right. Give it a few years and we could have every single planet meticulously hand crafted by a human.

All their Fallout games have good gore and dismemberment systems so I'm not sure why this looks lacking. Let's just hope the gunplay doesn't feel as bland as it does in CP2077, because that's what's it's looking like now.

I'm most impressed by the actual alien looking aliens and realistic landscapes. I think this game is going to be good especially if it has proper mod support. Edit: you would think my comment was a no brainer but I'll spell it out slowly for the low IQ crowd being smart Alecs down below.. Humanoid and dog aliens in media are boring, it's nice Bethesda is making creatures that look different. I've seen SO many REAL aliens I know what I'm talking about.

This game has been "in the making" for 25 years whereas Star Citizen has been in active development for 11 years (unless you count 2010 which was pre-production), yet from what I can tell, it doesn't seem to have nearly as much depth or character as Star Citizen. Starfield doesn't seem to try to do anything innovative either. Some if not most of the systems they have in it seem to be just new versions of their old ones, with no big changes or overhauls. Hopefully it'll be a good game regardless, though, taking Bethesda's track record into account, it'll probably be a buggy mess with performance issues. Wouldn't be surprised if the modding community ends up carrying this one too.

With 1000+ planets and the ability to make outposts, it makes me think there is going to be a lot of resource collecting. I find it hard to believe that most planets will have more to do than gather resources aside from cities and key quest locations. I hope this isn't the case because I always enjoyed going through every inch of Bethesda maps since they always rewarded you for exploration with cool encounters. I am looking forward to seeing how this develops over the year and as more information is released.

I think that every planet will have landmarks and key locations that will be displayed on your sensors. Other than that you will be doing pretty much like in the NMS: scanning flora and fauna, gathering loot, building stuff.. So there is no so much differences between prev games and Starfield. Just the distances will be bigger. Let's hope that we would be able to cross them quickly on some transport (as it may be our ship or maybe something like Mako from ME) P.S. The game was in active development for 7 years (8 years if we include 2022) and in total of ~22 years (as Bethesda says). I hope that was enough.
