@@SpencerLemay Universe bombed for the same reason that firefly bombed. It was good but it was too different from the thing that had made the brand famous. I remember seeing the first few episodes and quitting in disgust, and then 6 years later thinking it was the greatest space opera ever. Maybe the technology of deepfakes will allow us to have more episodes with the younger version of the actors we have grown to love. I am still in love with Samantha Carter from season 1 of sg1.
@SpencerLemay

@@macrumpton Season 1 of Universe was hot garbage. I didn't see season 2 but heard it was good. I remember watching season 1 on the original airing being super excited, and probably around episode 3 I was thoroughly disappointed and watching each new episode was a waste of a Friday night. My philosophy is Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis took the series to it's logical conclusion and is over. We don't really need anymore Stargate, modern TV studios would never make what the fans want anyway. Nothing lasts forever and people need to be willing to let things die and get excited about new things. De-aged deepfakes are expensive and creepy. Just let actors get old and die so we can see new ones.

Technically teleportation is the same as time travel. You just move in 3 dimensions while the 4th one, time, is unchanged.
@padalan2504
@padalan2504 Жыл бұрын
@@TheGUARDIANOFFOR Not with Einstein's time, where time is simply another dimension. So if you move yourself in time, then sure, there will be an acceleration and deceleration in your motion, but it will only be observable by you ie. the moving object. So to the outside observer can't tell if you are moving through a Fourth dimension, which interjects all points of 3D space or simply moving instantly in 3 dimensions.
@bubbledoubletrouble
@bubbledoubletrouble Жыл бұрын
If you time travel, you need to move through all four dimensions at once; the Earth (and the rest of the universe) won’t be where you left it.
@padalan2504
@padalan2504 Жыл бұрын
@@bubbledoubletrouble That is true mathematically. As each moment in time is essentially a frozen instance of 3D space. But might not have to be practically, because just like in 3d space you can devise a way to move in just one dimension along a "single axis" as it would seem through your perception, abstracting it to 3d space, like we do with objects put into 2D. Moving through 3D as well as time is also advantageous and desirable, since you have to account for Earth's rotation, orbit, the system actually orbiting the galaxy and the galaxy being hurled through space. It could be compared to landing on a moving craft with a helicopter. Sure a helicopter can move more or less only up, but it won't land back on a moving platform doing that, so moving through both time and space is desirable.
@padalan2504
@padalan2504 Жыл бұрын
I should add that moving through time does not mean the other forces will be counter acted. So there's that to figure out too. But the forces will still be acting on you as you move through time, even backwards if you move into the past. But those are all mechanics of Time travel, not of using 4D space (Time) to move yourself to a different location in the same instance, which doesn't have to account for the flux of the universe, as the time will be the same only the space will be different. Like when you lift a thing off a conveyor and place it elsewhere. (3D travel in 2D space in motion.)

@jasperkalen7571
@jasperkalen7571 Жыл бұрын
It's not possible with our current tech to maintain a geosynchronous orbit at a lower altitude; because our current tech applies a force when the chemical rockets are burning, and then the ship just coasts; so the orbital height is a function of orbital speed/energy. If you have a spacecraft that can apply constant thrust all the time with enough energy excess that you're not worried about fuel, then you could apply orthogonal continuous thrust to maintain a constant spot above the earth at a lower altitude. It'd be incredibly wasteful, energy wise, and for no real benefit; but I imagine it can be done. I wouldn't really call it an "orbit" though, so that descriptor would still be inaccurate, even if they were doing active station keeping.

I love Stargate (and other sci-fi shows) but I wish they'd get orbital mechanics right. There's no way they're in geosynchronous orbit at such a low altitude.
@lordazazil
@lordazazil 3 жыл бұрын
Just wondering, but could you explain that? Geosynchronous orbit just means always being above the same spot on earth. If they are closer to earth then they just have to move quicker. Something a casual satellite might not be able to do. But a BC-304 sure is able to do that easily. Maybe I'm just not seeing your point. That's why I'm asking for an explanation.

@@lordazazil you have to be farther away to get geosynchronous orbit. Can't get it in low Earth orbit, that's what they mean.

I can forgive some technical errors in a TV show since it is such a visual medium, if you made it like it would really look, most things would be just a dot, or at least too small to have any visual impact (especially space battles). They also somehow manage to have way too much light in a scene, usually by having a nebula in the background like a cloud, that is again a hundred times too bright. But my main peeve is the sounds in space, zoom, swish, pweew pweew, boom! If you are inside the ship, fine there will be lots of background noise from the mechanical systems, maybe even the engines (but given the energy levels involved, any imbalance or leakage that would result in sound would most likely be deadly). The movie 2001 is one of the very few that actually got most of it correct, or at least as near as possible.
@hadorstapa
@hadorstapa 3 жыл бұрын
@@lordazazil yeah, so orbital speeds are directly related to orbital altitude. If you orbit closer to the planet, you will travel at a high relative speed compared to the surface - slowing down would mean falling into the atmosphere, and speeding up would put you into a higher orbit. For example, at altitudes such as the ISS orbits, about 250 miles up, typically called Low Earth Orbit, you orbit approximately once every 90 minutes. That's considerably faster than the spin of the planet, so you can't stay above one spot on the globe at that hight and speed. If you were to try to hold position at that altitude, you'd basically have to be continuously thrusting upwards against gravity to stop yourself falling to earth. I suppose it is possible, but you're talking burning an astonishing amount of propellant to stay there, and you wouldn't describe that position as being in orbit, but really as hovering. If you want to be in geostationary orbit, you have to reach an orbital altitude where the time it takes to orbit the planet it 24 hours, the same as the spin of the planet. That's a bit over 22 thousand miles up. It's still a lot closer than, say, the moon, but it's a lot higher than the kind of low earth orbit view we tend to see. This is further complicated by the fact that all orbits have to cross the equator. To be truly geostationary, you have to pick an orbit above a point along the equator somewhere. To stay in orbit above a point north or south of the equator, companies using satellites for purposes such as TV and communication have to put multiple satellites up on complex orbits to relieve eachother as they drift off target. If you want to know more about orbits and experience how they work, I highly recommend the space aim game Kerbal Space Program. It uses a slightly simplified model that is actually really helpful in learning by experiencing what happens, plus you get to build your own rockets.
