Lol really? Star Trek TOS one of the most succesful scifi shows the cast weren't exactly family. Sure they weren't feuding but there were frictions between individual cast members and not just between Nimoy and Shatner. No, you're wrong, it's a combination of things: production design, storytelling, acting, characters and writing. If those elements are good and flow good together then you have a success if it can speak to a large enough audience.

I like him too. Very excellent person.

I was kind of neutral. Swapping out Daniel for somebody who started out mildly annoying, was another char who had to "grow" into the team, and was a bit boring didn't help. I would've liked him better, if, for instance, during battles he demonstrated a much higher aggressive proficiency than you would expect (I.e., had another side to him). Still, I was kind of sorry to see him get canned - he wasn't THAT bad.

Jonas was great - the kind of a gifted character who could put up with the rest of sg1 despite missing experiences. He was a gread addition and i was sry to see him leave that soon. Nonetheless Daniels part was way bigger, more important and as well better; way more funnier. And i did like the actor.

@@jiffhu i think they're both B & J, just different lines, like maybe low-fat or no lactose or w/e as well as regular; the labels all have that same curve to the band where the brand name is, even if the resolution looks like the camera lens needed to be cleaned

God damn it that would've been amazing. A character that isn't from Earth or the Pegasus galaxy would've really shaken up the dynamic. Would've been hard to justify his presence though, considering where he was when Atlantis was starting.

Y'know... I never thought about that, but damn, that *would* have been a good dynamic. Plus I would love to watch Jonas interact with McKay, that would have been fantastic

Would've also helped cut down on the furious "oh yeah uuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh... yeah somehow the entire team knows Ancient on at least the level of highschool Spanish I guess" handwaving that really undercu the space archeology aspect. And yeah. The Rodney interactions would've been amazing and so much better than what we got with Zelenka. You know what else would've been amazing? His interactions with _Weir_ . He's a goody two shoes easygoing scientist boy next door and her almost Thatcherite My Way Or The Highway style soft-spoken yet unyielding leadership style would've made for utterly fascinating chemistry. Selling that particular brand of parental stringency is probably why they swapped out the CSI chick for Higginson; The former just never quite managed to project SGA!Weir's Air of politically savvy solemn, unflappable dignity and dangerously refined calm and instead just kind of came across as anxiously irritable. Real shame Higginson never saw the way her character carried the narrative and instead opted to quit a role she filled like no-one else ever could've.

Sorry to reply to a year old post. But yeah, I wish they did do that (or brought him in as a guest star). And the fact that Mckay already knows Jonas it would have been fun to see them work together (again). Their interaction was funny in season 6, when they both were telling Hammond why the plan wasn't going to work for very different reasons and he basically tells them off.

@@blueray15 So far I haven't abandoned this account yet so I really don't mind. Always nice to discuss what I consider my favourite sci-fi show after Babylon V. Though I kind of am not so sure anymore. I guess it really depends on whether Tori Higginson still leaves or not. Jonas is the most, for lack of a better word, "functional"/not laser focused on his niche type of person in the core universe, and it would've thrown a wrench in the dysfunctional but loving family corralled by the strange weird but incredibly competent civvie dynamic Weir-era SGA had going on.

I preferred Jonas, too.

I refuse to choose between Daniel and Jonas; they were both individual characters, and both were so well portrayed. But I do wish they'd kept Jonas around, because I felt like Corin Nemec was really starting to get a feel for the character just as Michael Shanks came back. It always felt like he got kind of a raw deal.

He was a likable character for sure. I wish his entire culture was more alien though, so we get an even more non-Earth perspective.
