I got hearing aids for the first time recently. My doctor is someone I've known my whole life and trust his opinion. I have moderate noise-induced loss. He recommended the Genesis 20 mRIC. They work very well for me and I'm happy with them. They really are almost unnoticeable if you're not looking. I keep my hair buzzed and don't wear glasses so there's nothing to hide them. The people I work with daily who didn't know I had them had no idea unless I told them. The noise reduction you mentioned is something I noticed. If I have the input turned up higher fans and air conditioners sound like running water. I can't personally say if Edge Mode is superior as I don't use it too much. I mostly leave mine on a custom program with highs boosted a little bit. One of my biggest issues with hearing loss is understanding speech. If I'm in a room without any competing sounds having a conversation it's not bad. If there is other noise or people talking I can't understand individual words. Even inside with no other noises if I'm not expecting to hear you speak and you say something, especially on my bad (right) side, I will hear that you said words but they sound like gibberish. Having these devices has changed that. It's a whole new world I had forgotten was out there. Bluetooth is great but it can be finicky. I have a iPhone from work and Samsung Galaxy S21FE as personal so I use them on both. The iPhone is a bit easier to use but honestly the Android was not difficult to connect and use. I'll often use the iPhone during the work week and Android on the weekend. As long as Bluetooth is disabled on the one I'm not using I have no problems. Being able to stream music and podcasts is great. The sound is extremely clear but obviously there's no bass as these are not for low frequencies. The range seems really short though. With either phone if I leave it in one room and walk to another it starts to cut out. At work I can walk 15' away and it goes out. If I go outside even with the phone in my hand I get stuttering and disturbance. This is with either phone.

I bought a pair of the Starkey Genesis Ai Mini RIC 24 rechargeable a little over two weeks ago. They replaced a pair of Resounds I got from Costco about 3 years ago, which were my first pair. So far these have been amazing. Hearing is best I have experienced since wearing hearing aids. Love the app and features on these devices.

Thank you for the review. I love my Bluetooth. I do have an Apple, an android and a landline phones. I most likely will have to upgrade the Apple to get a couple of desired features but will probably miss the home button with the upgrade. My original goal is to make listening and comprehension with less effort. Wearing devices 20+hours a day and fashion are not a concern issue. Some days, I wish I could find the largest most conspicuous hearing aids to effectively treat my loss. I appreciate your thoughts on new technologies and devices . I would also like more information on accessories best suited for different listening situations. Keep the information coming.

Very interesting topic. I always had Starkey hearing aids. But my last set were terrible. Never got use to the hearing aids. Now I am wearing Phonaks Audeo and they have performed well. Now looking at updating. My hearing aid provider wants me to try the new Starkey Genesis. I have profound hearing loss and have worn h.a. 45 years. Hearing aids have come a long way! I really appreciate your videos and look forward to every one of the videos. 😊No one else does it like you do!! Wish that you was not so far away!😢

Evolv AI was a game changer for me with similar "profound" loss. I hear so much better with these compared with prior aids; however, I also am an avid outdoor enthusiast and use my bluetooth for hours on end listening to both audio books, podcasts, and music. It sounds like the main thing Genesis did was to improve the life of the charged aid from 1 day to about 3 days. I opted for batteries with my Evolv for that reason as I often am "off the grid" for days and even weeks at a time such that trying to charge aids daily is a problem. The 312 batteries last about 5 days.

Hello Doc! Thank you for the great review as usual. 😊 Just today my daughter try these HA It has been awhile but she;s gonna start college so looking for best choice for her SSD she’s normal in right side and severe/profound in left. She has an iPhone though. She never use any HA at all well she try the ADHEAR but that was 2 years ago. But I don’t appreciate that now I have to pay almost 5,000 dollars before I use them, yes, they giving us 45 days to see if we like them and can return but I like it better when they let you borrow to test them in different situations before you buy them. It seems like a lot of trouble in case I don’t like them and have to go thru the whole ordeal and in the end Audiologist mention keeping 200.00 for that time we use them? Is it like this everywhere with all the Audiologist? Thanks again Doctor I have been follow you since my girl had the SSHL back on Dec/2017 Keep up the good work! I wish we were closer ☺️❤

I have the Genesis AI and an iPhone and the Bluetooth connection is not great. Have had trouble keeping them both connected and streaming sound goes in and out. It’s slightly better if the phone is held in your hand, which indicates that the antenna or signal strength is not very strong. Maybe a firmware update will help.

I'm curious on the Genesis AI Bluetooth pairing. I noticed on my old hearing aids (Audibel Via(?) purchased in late 2019), that I can pair it both with my iPad and my android phone. It prefers to pair with the iPad, but if the iPad isn't around it will readily pair with my android phone. I'm testing an Oticon hearing aid and have noticed that once it was paired with the iPad, it will not pair with my android phone even when the iPad is miles away. It looks like I have to unpair it from the iPad before I can pair it with the Android phone. How is the Genesis on pairing? Does it only pair to one device? (I know, it's one device at a time, but perhaps it's more a question of how easy is it to pair to another device instead of the first one).

Dr. Cliff. Do you know if there will be a new model of the Genesis AI coming, and when? Do you know what other features are being developed? 50 years of using hearing aids and my biggest concern would be hearing in noise. I am a bit hesitant to get the first version of the AI technology. I don’t much care about streaming or phones since captioning apps are available and I depend on them. Also someone asked if you can stream and use the captioning app. My guess is no…is this correct?

I use the Pixel 7 and I haven't had any issues with Bluetooth on these hearing aids. I can leave my phone in one room and go to another and they are still crystal clear. I don't know if it's the type of android phone you use that has such a big impact on the Bluetooth connectivity, or if maybe its the inconsistency of the device manufacturing.

Nice to know they're streamlining everything including the different tech levels you know this might sound kinda odd but honestly doc I'm kinda glad they got rid of the iic with the removal string doubling as a antenna because it couldn't be curled in your ear and well as you put it it'll make you look like your talking to aliens or even trying to hook into a satellite in space 🤣 I'm not sure they'd be able to find a way around that probably not without it being flexible enough to maybe curl into your ear or with a heat gun

With the Evolv AI and Android, I've become used to the various bluetooth related connectivity issues. The main issue relates to making sure my phone is centered on my chest area so that no part of my body impedes the bluetooth signal. Occasionally, the bluetooth becomes garbled; but resetting the phone typically resolves that issue. This means that I have a special chest pouch that I carry my phone in when biking or walking and that I have a chest strap phone holder on my backpack. I also have all of the different accessories ("remote mic +" and "TV Streamer"). These accessories have the same challenge in that only one streamed input is allowed at a time. It would be nice if the Starkey folks would let us mix multiple inputs together from their "Thrive App"; but alas, it seems like they've moved on to their new app for the Genesis. Am disappointed with Starkey's follow through in this regard having purchased their latest and greatest only 16 months ago to find that they basically are not bothering to improve upon this line.

Tested the Evolves and they were great but Starkey announced the Genesis so my audiologist recommended using the newest technology, tried but ended up returning the Genesis. The Evolves were all day comfortable but I had trouble tolerating the Genesis for 6-8 hours before I’d just have to take them out. Wind noise and lack of noise reduction additional issues, Bluetooth just sucked even with iPhone, if I connected to my iPad the Genesis would not allow me to reconnect to iPhone without turning off both devices, pain in the butt! Genesis would drop the connection to my iPad simply scrolling through KZfaq videos, sometimes both ears would disconnect & sometimes just one ear but it forced a shutdown of the device before reconnecting, life is too short for this kind of frustration. Listening quality wasn’t great, had hard time hearing voices in noise environment like crowded restaurants or in the car, I couldn’t hear a guy standing next to me in a crowded room even with Edge Mode on. Outside wind noise was terrible, like crumpling paper right next to one ear even with wind reduction on maximum. They say the sample the listening environment 8,000,000 times an hour, so what? I can’t hear voices and everyday sounds don’t sound natural.. Bye Bye Genesis..

I've been wearing the Genesis 24s for 3 weeks now. I can't tell the difference between them and my Phonak audeo M30s. they're both programmed with REM and we've made adjustments a few times. They do have incredible wind noise reduction, and I didn't feel the need to take them out on the airplane Like I have in the past. But, it's not worth so much money without significant speech understanding improvement. I'm taking them back and right now trying to figure out if i want the Luminty 90s or the Oticon Intents.

My Starkey AI 24 Genesis are going back. Probably good if you have an iPhone, but lacks a very important feature for Android users. Anyone hard of hearing probably has a problem with telephone calls, and the inability to stream phone audio to hearing aids is a significant issue. Get Phonaks that work with any smartphone... or switch to an iPhone if you like Starkeys. I'm not willing to switch phones simply to make my hearing aids work like they should.

I have the 20. I had more trouble with the Samsung Galaxy phone, but they worked. They work better on my Google pixel pro. Bluetooth is an issue, but that's Bluetooth. For months I had to reconnect and reinstall the Starkey app. However after and upgrade it was just a matter of shutting the phone off every so often. After talking to Starkey support with my audio, you can expect more issues with rechargable than disposable batteries. Wish I had known that b4 getting the rechargable. Again, mine is the genius ai 20 . Turn off the phone every so often does avoid most issues. I do like the better control on the giggle pixel to disconnect the HAs from Bluetooth when it acts up. That was more of a chore on the Samsung Galaxy 21.

I just got the Starkey Genesis AI yesterday to demo for a couple of weeks then gonna demo Phonak Lumity for a couple of weeks after that. I like the Starkey so far as this is the smallest hearing aid my hearing loss could handle. Just struggling with background noise being louder than the music when driving. Example: I have my AC on blast since it’s in the 100s here where I am but I mainly hear the AC over my music. So it’s gonna take time to learn the app and all. Went from Oticon as that hearing aid I had (no idea what model) I wasn’t able to hear as loud or clear.

I am new to hearing aids and just got these prescribed. I can say that overall I like the sounds in most situations. they are average for watching TV. I'm very disappointed with the Bluetooth. I have an iPhone 14 and the connection is terrible on phone calls, marginally better on streaming. The phone quality is so bad (on my end, seems to be ok on the other end) that I am considering returning them for either the Signia Pure Charge and go IX or the Resound Nexia. If I'm going to pay almost 5K for these devices, they should sound at least as good as the Bluetooth devices I can buy at 5 below. These are significantly worse.....Like I said, I am new to hearing aids. is this a common problem among all brands? should I just focus on the performance in hearing situations outside of the Bluetooth connectivity? any guidance would be appreciated.

I've been using Starkey aids off and on for more than 40 years and am currently using the Evolv AI. I appreciate their ability to correct my profound hearing loss; but I feel like they have let me down with their attention to the bluetooth side of things. It seems like most cheap "hearing buds" have better buetooth connectivity than my $3k/aid hearing aids. As an engineer, I'm pretty sure the issue relates to lack of engineering focus on this aspect of things. Oh well, I guess other manufacturers will likely do a good job of this and take away Starkey market before they do what you and I know they need to do.

The new app is only easier to navigate for techy people. Older people really struggle as starkey has basically hidden everything and increased the amount of places u have to go to access content in the app.

Darn. I am definitely not a techy, but I am old and don't like messing with apps much. I'm considering these and going to an ITE type to help with wind noise. I have an iPhone already so I don't care about Android issues.

@@watermain48 you can have it paired to the iphone and not get the app. But the app just gonna take some practice.

They got rid of stream boost? That’s the best thing they offered frankly. Former employee here and hearing aid user… If anyone cares, they are awful to their employees, and their hearing aids don’t come close to these other larger companies. Too focused on “lifestyle” stuff. Get back to the basics.

I don’t know what tests you run on the battery charge but my own experience tells me that the claim by Starkey is not the reality. I recently acquired Genesis AI ITC rechargeable aids that claim to have “up to 42 hours battery life, without streaming” and “up to 36 hours battery life with streaming”. My careful recording of usage has shown that if I were to stream videos/music for 6-7 hours, my battery would run out of charge. I estimate that streaming costs the battery about 15% of its charge per hour used. You need to run your own independent tests so that your viewers can receive accurate data, instead of just repeating the spiel put out by the manufacturer. I am seeing my audiologist tomorrow and I will be returning the hearing aids within the 30 day satisfaction period for a refund, because they do not, in my opinion, meet the standard claimed by Starkey. It’s regrettable as the aids are actually very good, but I feel as if I have bought them as a result of deception.

That's weird. My independent review achieved significantly better battery life than what you are reporting. A lot of that number has to do with all the other digital features you have active in your hearing aids. I'm guessing, you have a lot to only get 6-7 hours of battery life. I would also bet that if you run similar feature sets on different hearing aids, you would also run into issues with battery life.

I hate to be so overly critical, but, as an individual searching for a new hearing aid, the emphasis of a hearing aid review should be focused on how the hearing aid improves hearing.... This is supposed to be a "detailed" hearing aid review and much of the video was about bluetooth connectivity, battery life, and listening to music... What makes this hearing aid stand out above the rest in regards to improving your hearing? Literally wasted 15 minutes of my day watching this
