Someone told me there was a musical where all the actors play trains and they're all on roller skates. I didn't believe it. Wow.

Brian my mum fucking hates this musical and she seen it. She said that she rather watch the emoji movie than this
@blaketurner22704 жыл бұрын
All of the trains are actually a young boys toys. The idea of the show is that it’s a dream the boy has when he goes to bed. It’s addressed in the beginning. It sets the tone for the play and allows you to get past the biases that Dandelion, the other commenter seems to have. It’s a phenomenal play that touches on how amazing and vivid a child’s imagination can be. I saw this live in Las Vegas as a kid and fell in love with it. To be fair I loved Cats as well. 🤷♂️

The characters are toy trains and part of the performance is a "kid" zipping them around the stage. This song is basically about one of the toys wondering if there is a God. They probably think the kid who plays with them is their god or something.

Apparently it was a combination of being asked to compose a version of Cinderella where the Prince was going to hold a competition to see which engine would lead the royal train and Cinderella and the step sisters were engines, ALW wanting to adapt Thomas the Tank Engine to an animated series, and him writing a song specifically for Earl Jones who could sing three notes at once (Engine Of Love). And probably cocaine.

Starlight Express, answer me yes I don't want you to go Want you to take me away But bring me home before daylight And in the time between Take me to everywhere But don't abandon me there Just want to say I've been I believe in you completely Though I may be dreaming sweetly of the Starlight Express, answer me yes I don't want you to go

For all the people laughing in the comments about "family guy", yeah it was funny family guy reference it, I laughed. But really this whole musical was choreographed on roller skates, that's hella hard since most dancers/singers don't have to think about doing it on roller skates. Then there's the joke about it being trains. It's based on the child having a dream about his toy trains, so how else do you get anything that comes close to the motion of trains on a stage by actors? The storyline and theatrics is far better than CATS. I would say the only problem with this musical is some of the songs are very dated for the 80s but trying to be "futuristic", like with the train Electra. Appreciate the hard work that went into pulling this play off the no other plays are like.
