We move to Fairbanks Provincial Park. Our site is even more obstructed then the last obstructed site.

Thanks, for the detailed info concerning tree obstruction. Best video I have found concerning this issue. Many trees around my home and now I feel comfortable buying starlink.

Excellent video, thank you. Nice to see someone just giving us the facts without drama. Our Northern Michigan property has a lot of trees around the yard but I think we may have a fairly good window to the North.

The most useful information I have found on obstructions. The last campsite and the narrow field of sky has given me hope for my property with its many trees. Will go through with the Starlink order. Thanks and happy camping!

Sometimes I watch the Star link videos because people get really happy sometimes understandably. I feel sad about some people that do not take the time In wooded areas and send it back. They never seem mad just sad. I think your videos are doing more for people than you realize. Thank you.

Ok great. Hope it works out for you. If you have a ladder on the back of your rig look at flagpolebuddy.com for the starlink 2 mount. That is what I have. There are also telescopic ones out there which may have been better but I am happy with what I have. I find it heavy enough on the end of a 8 foot pole. I imagune it would be awkwardly top heavy on a longer mount. I thought of a permanent mount on the roof but more than once I used the stand that came with it to place it in different spots on the roof or ground.

Ya, your campsite looks like my homesite of 35yrs. I have a similar canopy around my house and have outages, but am happy to put up with minor outages compared to Dish Network (canceled!) and Direct TV. My dnld speeds vary from 60-90, but like you mentioned, rarely does a movie stop. I will keep Direct TV for the moment because those flimsy add-on services like SLING TV have a resolution for news channels better suited to early iPhones. The much-vaunted AppleTV4k has been parked - I am perfectly happy with Netflicks and Amazon Prime that my LG already has loaded. Even with ' issues, Starlink is a winner. My local FedEx Ground driver told me he delivered about 5 the week before me a few weeks ago...and a company up the road 20mi is offering install services. It is a winner in Eastern Maryland. Jim

Good Video, I was going to purchase Star Link and then my wife made me put the brakes on the idea.. She reminded me what a nightmare I had with dish network in the RV. We are from PA and most of all the campgrounds around us are heavily wooded and this includes the campgrounds we visit in NJ, Del, MD, and Virginia. Having the trees are great considering it's been very hot lately. If I get Star Link, I would need to search campgrounds with fewer tree's which would be a hard task with in itself. Our biggest consideration is the cost of the equipment and monthly fee to only to be able to fully use of it for our zoom meetings every once in a blue moon, This isn't very cost effective for us at this time. This would be perfect if we traveled to areas like AZ or Utah where obstruction would be much more limited.. Right now we have the Peepwave system connected to AT&T and Verizon which is treating us very well with no complaints but nothing is perfect. Star Link is suppose to be designing a true portable unit with a mountable dish. I'm going to wait for that units debut. Thanks for sharing..

Starlink is coming with a truly mobile system but the issue is when? We got tired of waiting. We ordered and canceled twice but when they came out with the RV version we finally bit the bullet with no regrets. Definately if you need to zoom or use phone calls over wifi it will only work for that in an open sky. We had a bad experience with hot spots so this is a far better solution for us. Love your rig. I have watched several videos of yours in the past. Safe travels!

@@RVLIVINGLIFE Thank you so much and we appreciate that... ❤❤❤❤ For now, I think the best thing is to have a combination of both types of services, Star Link and Mobile.. The one thing I really like about Star Link is they added the RV function so you can shut it down for periods of time. It will be interesting to see how much better Star Link becomes as more satellite fly.. Be safe and stay healthy...

That looks like an awful lot of trees for Starlink to work. I think that would be the biggest issue for most people. Looks like it is great when it actually connects.

Gary, you need to order the 150' cable for the dish.
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE 2 жыл бұрын
I have thought about that. I don't know where I would go with it in these obstructed sites though. These sites are literly small areas carved out of the forest. 150 feet in any direction would just be the forest, the lake or someone elses campsite. If I do find a need, I will order it as they deliver in 3 days and we stay places for 3 weeks.

QUESTION, I have heard you can turn off service or suspend service say for a month or two if you're not going to need it . And then turn it back on easily. So if you don't need it , you won't get billed until you turn it back on.
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE 2 жыл бұрын
That is true. It is something we have not tried as we use it all the time. But, for part timers that could be very useful.

I just logged into my online starlink account and there is a link on the "my account" page where you can easily pause or enable your subscription. This likely will not display properly but here is what is says. My billing date is the 14th of each month. PAUSE SERVICE By clicking confirm, billing will stop and your Starlink will no longer receive service at the beginning of your next billing period, August 14, 2022. You can reactivate service at any time and billing will revert to the current standard monthly subscription fee. CONFIRM GO BACK

You almost have me convinced 🤔 one more thought as I sit here in the rain. I understand trees and stuff, but have you any experience with weather. Thick clouds, rain , stuff like that?
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE 2 жыл бұрын
@@lifewithlennie Hey, I'm not trying to convince you to buy anything lol, just sharing my experiences. Clouds have no effect. With rain there could be a slight difference but I have not noticed it unless it is a severe downpour. I mean a really, really hard rain. Then you can get signal interuptions. But really the only effects I notice are having trees, buildings or steep mountains in the way and that should improve as more satalites go up. I believe they only have a small percentage of the planned satalites up so far.

@@lifewithlennie Here is a quote of an arcticle I read online about numbers. This was written in may 2022 "More than 2,200 Starlink satellites are currently in orbit and working, according to an analysis by Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist who tracks spaceflight activity. That’s about half of SpaceX’s planned first-generation network of 4,408 Starlink satellites. The 4,400 satellites will be spread among five different orbital “shells” at different altitudes and inclinations. SpaceX, founded and led by Elon Musk, has signaled it eventually intends to launch as many as 42,000 satellites." The more that go up the smaller window you will need through obstructions to get a good reliable connection.
