On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we finally mount the Starlink antenna after dragging it all over the Sea of Cortez just loosely set on the deck. The crew tag teams basik's hulls to prep, tape and paint. Time is running out so we are picking up the pace as we head in to our last days in Puerto Penasco. Come back next week to see the chaos...see you then!

Teal: I know... well that's cause I'm a professional. Linh: As your assistant- that the consistency of the Thickened Epoxy was perfect. Teal: I have no doubt. After checking the fine print on the label for mixing direction- 3 self-medicating shots aught do it. The boat looks great and in capable hands that I have no doubt . Safe travels crew of basik. That chicken looked delicious too. Made me hungry. The Starlink mount- perfect. Done by a professional with help from his trusty assistant.

A feature I like about Starlink is that the antenna will self defrost when the temps drop below freezing. It is not necessary to remove snow and ice from the antenna due to the design. It is also a phase-array antenna which will self steer to the appropriate constellation of Starlink satellites while you are underway. Imagine making cell phone calls (over wifi of course) while you are 100s or plus miles off shore and underway! Yep, its a game changer!!

Teal, I’ve been running and aftermarket adapter that removes the router and powers the Starlink direct from 12v or 48VDC. Saves about 10-15 watts while it running. Important for those of us on batteries. Ping me if you want a contact to get one of these adapters.

You should look at STAR-MOUNT SYSTEMS they have a mounting that will FLAT MOUNT your Starlink . It ends up being only INCH TALL AND WILL NOT SHADOW SOLAR panels. Their kit cuts off the pole and tilt motors and installs into a WATERPROOF Star board flat panel with O RING SEAL AROUND THE CLEAR LEXAN TOP. The panel will work just the same as it does now and simply makes it like the expensive $2500 flat panel but even more compact. This DIY kit likely costs less than the stainless post you had made as well. IT LOOKS AMAZING. You have the tools and skill to do this conversion yourself on board. CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h. Ps; The boat is looking amazing with the paint refresh, GREAT JOB ALL

Brilliant episode as always, but I must confess to who's now the "adult" amongst the female population. Always enjoy y’all’s videos! Nice mount job too. Hey Linh , you did a great job, but future reference taping,FYI. When repairs are done in a body shop and pin stripes have to be replaced there’s a particular technique to it. Instead of like 4” to 6” at a time, with someone helping, pull off maybe starting with 6 or 8 ft . Tack down the starting point well, walk the length of the tape down the side and with your face close to the hull, look down the length of the tape, pull it tight, then slowly ease the tape down on the line you’re following. Just slightly touching the tape in a few spots as you go. It becomes easy to look down the tape line to see how strait it is (and use longer lengths of tape)If not then just pull it up and start over. It gets much easier and faster with practice! Looks like you did a great job anyway! Sorry to be so long winded about this,just wanted to help y’all save time next time. Practice makes...better🙃,no such thing as perfect,(not even Teal)😉! Stay safe and healthy ⛵️

I saw a video from an overlander in Equador, I think, who took off the motorized base and 3D printed a new flat base, and removed the starlink modem to run everything off 12 vdc instead of inverting DC to AC then back to DC for the Starlink equipment. Apparently, there is nothing special in the starlink modem and can be ethernet connected to a wireless access point.

@OnboardLifestyle Жыл бұрын
Not too much considering we are also sanding most of the old stuff off then you factor how much is left once the paint is dry. So far, we have either gotten lighter or its a wash in weight since we have been slowing replacing anything heavy with lighter building materials. Think about how much weight we lost when we built our hardtop. Just that alone was a loss of over 300lbs.

Notice: Remember, there´s some issues with the connector and cable o the dish on RV version. Starlink are aware of it. Design flaw. People are unable to reach customer service due to amount of ppl need parts of warranty. Some reach customerr service in a instant, others dont. Current fluctuations causes overheating in the cable and connectors. Whilst making the dish unusable, So make sure the current power is accurate. Lifespan on the connector and cable is short. So be prepared to oversize. See alluric sailing channel for solution, but this breaks the warranty.

Dealing with the StarLink systems limitations and inevitable frustrations you will probably never show. Today's mobile satellite options guides already show availability of other next-generation Starlink competitors that were only in the in the works when you purchased what is now a hunk of junk. Average Lifespan of Your Electronics before something better comes along? Six months, if you constantly paying attention like me. Falcon 9 landed on a platform at sea after failing from space. We worry about putting a Cat into a slip.

You can buy a StarLink system in Mexico for around $500 usd and get a $300 usd credit and only pay around $50 usd per month...so bring on the competition!
