It’s a long established Japanese technique called shore jigging, irrespective of whether it’s applied on a beach, rock wall, pier etc. in fact, given the range of lures your working it’s actually referred to as super light shore jigging. Further more, many of the lures brought into Australia from companies like Maria, Major Craft, Palms etc originally came from the shore jigging scene.

Kool one Steve, I've never thought of casting flutters from shore, must give it a go. Have only ever thought of dropping them down to the reefies. I guess that hopping them off the bottom continually keeps them in the strike zone a lot longer, a much slower retrieve than I'm used to. Thanks for a great idea.

Great timing on the vid. I picked up a new rod this winter a Shimano Coltsniper BB PE 2.5 9'.6" real nice rod love it teamed up with a Saltist MQ 4000. I have been jigging my local beach all winter having a ball (nobody is ever on it in winter). I have noticed that almost all my hook ups have been on the front hooks makes sense I suppose they are trying to eat them head first. Only yesterday just after sun set I got my PB 3x salmon on the same jig a 30g Palms Slow Blatt wide one for every hook. One hook was bent almost straight so got lucky landing all three. Thanks for the vid.

I think jigging the bottom or close to, is a good fall back technique if top water isn’t working! even if not using a dedicated jig. the diversity and variations of trends with metals is addictive! Nice video Starlo. I use good ol laser 25s in the same style. Started by accident when the rip at the end of my local was running too hard to use a pilly and not much happening higher in the water column. Jig and drop has worked very well on Aussie Salmon and Tailor. Best on late arvo run in tide. I'm thinking the laminar flow near the bottom is easier on the fish feeding near the rip. I also found stingrays feeding in close and the goid ol south coast seals like the same conditions. Yesterday I started with a heavier slug, not much happened, but switched to jigging the laser 25 (blue), twin single hooks, gave me a great session. I also found going lighter on a Samaki Zing 9ft 10-25lb with braid helps you stay in touch. Keep up the good work. Cheers

Another great vid mate greatg to have another option off the beach, Ive often turned to lures when the baits arent working there but more the plastics or a high speed shiner as I would off the rocks however it makes sense that a a slower injured baitfish presentation would work better with the decreased visibility and greater incidence of injured baitfish in that rough and tumble environment. Ive probably been ripping those shiners straight past them for years ala "what the hell was that! Ah cant see it anymore".

Hello, I would like to practice this technique of the edge of beach. With a 20g slow jig. Do you have any tips or tricks to succeed? Because casting jigs have triple hooks and this hurts the fish. Slow jigs have simple hooks but I don’t know if these jigs are more effective for the beach and the edge and how to do it. Thank you very much Starlo.
@StarloGetsReel

Is that rod the new Shimano Tcurve surf 3-6kg? If so, what do you think of it as a light beach fishing setup, is it really light or move in the heavier side? Also, how would you compare it to the Speedmaster 3-6kg you've used before? The reason I'm considering it is because that line weight + lure weight combination is hard to beat.
@StarloGetsReel
@StarloGetsReel Жыл бұрын
Reynaldo, the one I was using here is the T-Curve Surf Spin 902, rated for 5 - 8kg line, from memory. I found it very stiff and way too much rod for this job. It'd be nice throwing poppers for GTs or whatever! The Speedmaster I used in the earlier vid would be better suited to this task.
