I don't think there is a way to be creative without making mistakes and having to earn. I think the fact that you had fun with it and you really tried. Means a lot. And I also think the table looks absolutely amazing. You did great!

FYI. We learn more from things going wrong than everything going right. If I may make a suggestion. I would coat the whole thing with a light brushed on seal coating. Hopefully this would help seal all the unseen issues with leaks. Also. BUY yourself a HEAT GUN. Put the torch down. If you souse a torch, you should have a fire extinguisher VERY CLOSE BY.. but. Trust me buy a heat gun. It will get rid of the bubbles AND help heat up the epoxy instead of hot water. You can add low height side walls to your table when buffing to help contain the spin off debri. You should making a crows foot dimension mark and it’s done with a pencil. Loose the pen. Also. Rags are not buffer block when trying to persuade wood to do what we want. Wood blocks work better.

Unfortunately heat guns tend to blow the epoxy off , cause build ups and attract unwanted hair/debris. Torches burn unwanted hairs off and leave a nice smooth surface to buff in the end.

A big part of being a good woodworker is how you handle/cover/recover from your mistakes. You're doing very well there, so keep learning. Tracing paper would probably be great for transferring those lines to the additional layers.

Pretty neat little “tablegraphical map” there. I haven’t tried working with epoxy yet, but one thing I have learned in life is that “mistakes” or “failures” are one of the best teachers, and trying to learn without giving in to a fear of failure is an important thing that we all struggle to overcome sometimes. Keep up the good work, I definitely enjoy your videos!

This was my first video I’ve watched of yours. First off I definitely subscribed to your channel after this one video. As you talked throughout it all you and I think a lot a like. I LOVED how you said each skill is a tool, because I couldn’t agree more. I also LOVED how you kept in your mistakes and talked about how it was okay to make mistakes. So many people edit out either the hard parts or their failures. Making it seem like it is super easy or they only do a perfect job. Which isn’t realistic. I look forward to watching your past videos as well as your future videos. Thank you!!!

I'd love to have this table as a kind of coffeetable in my livingroom. The room is much darker than the ones you created, but I live in a Swedish blockhouse and I am styling my livingroom toba maritime theme. So the table would fit in perfectly with my very light wood furniture and blue colors. I love it very much! No disclaimer here! Oh and by the way - white sofas are a no- go since I have two doggies. Either the sofas are dirty in no time or never visible because something is always on top of them to protect them.

i think it's gorgeous. so much hard work, so much trial and error. props for not just giving up. my opinion, i feel like the base/legs of the table should've been different. don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, but i feel like something maybe slimmer, or the complete opposite: a big round table base, just a bit smaller in radius than the table top, maybe with a nice, darker warm wood stain, or a smooth, shiny enamel-like white finish.

Hi, new here. I was very glad you showed the whole process of the project. Folks need to see both the ups & down of projects to get a true understanding & a true appreciation for the work being preformed. Now with all that being said. I think you did an amazing job. I really do. You did a wonderful job elaborating the creativeness of the project. Thank you for sharing that with us. I'm not a negative giver lol, but since you did ask only thing I would suggest is to not be so negative on yourself. Keep up the good work. Within this next year I'll be making my first table. So you showed me some things to do & not to do. So thank you. Look forward to seeing more of your work as I've just became a new subscriber. God bless you.

Beautiful work and effort! It’s a perfect piece AS IS for lots of clients. Had I commissioned it to be done for me I would have requested the top layer of wood to be unpainted red oak the same as the base you made; also unpainted but rather stained to match the top layer and call it “Oceana”. But that’s just my own preference. I could see it sitting in a room decorated in white only with the exception being your table.

This my first time seeing your channel. I loved this table! You can do smoother gradients using a makeup sponge, using the 2 colors you are using in the gradient side by side and push in the 2 colors together by dabbing along their meeting points. I hope that made sense. If it didn't watch some nail art videos that do gradients...its the same concept using paint instead of nail polish. I am an acrylic paint artist and I use that method all the time make gradients with paint similar to yours and it looks awesome. I agree with another commenter that said you should do the heat gradient as well. They could be end tables if they were taller. I would have something like that in my home!! Ok...I subbed and am off to watch more of your videos!!

Re: CNCs and their users... I had a chip on my shoulder about them for a long time. I was hand-routing signs and plaques, and had gotten quite good at it! But I knew people with CNCs who had zero woodworking experience or knowledge. They expected to be able to download a (free) file, press PLAY and have a completed work of art. And what they made was crap when compared to what I was making. Then I saw a video by Steve Ramsey (Woodworking for Mere Mortals) talking about how the customer doesn't care HOW it's made, just that it's made well. That made me re-evaluate a lot of things. Eventually, arthritis decided I needed to buy my own CNC if I wanted to continue making the kind of things I was making. I've embraced it and have been enjoying the fact that I can do even greater things with it... things I could never have done before! TL:DR: Don't worry about the comments. Use whatever tools you want and feel comfortable using. Do it for YOU.

You did a great job. I love your tenacity. You kept going until it was done right! Next time you do a flood coat, try putting a few layers of painters tape on the bottom edge of the table ( 4 layers makes the tape easier to remove later ). Use your razor knife to cut off any excess tape. Then slide a plastic putty knife over the tape while pressing down to make sure it has a good seal. Those resin drips will come right off with the tape. If you’re top coating a resin piece Liquid Latex works great too. Brush the latex on the bottom edge, allow it to completely dry. Then when you’re finished.. peel off the latex along with the resin drops. I’ve made similar topographical jewelry pendants. I like that design too. Yours turned out beautiful.

Very nice for a first try. Something I learned when I did paint and body work was wet sanding. Once the rough sanding is done, continue to a finer and finer sand paper. After a few of those, use a wet/dry sand paper and sand with a some water. It can help to take a bar of soap and rub a little on the wet sand paper. I like that you included your mistakes. Will help me avoid them when I give something like this a try. I also like that you jump in there and try something new. You don't learn new things by not doing new things.

I can't even begin to tell you how much waste I've made learning from my mistakes. 😂 It's part of the process. Waste includes time, not just material. You did good by painting a white base, and priming the poplar for the blues. The paint would have bled into the wood grains, and you would have had to go over it 4 or 5 times, rather than 2. The table is absolutely beautiful. Keep up the magnificent journey you're on.
