Vapor polishing is a method of polishing plastics like polycarbonate, ABS, acrylic, nylon etc. to reduce the surface roughness or improve clarity. Typically, a component is exposed to Weldon-4 gas causing the surface to flow thereby improving the surface finish.

There are many types of plastic resins we use every day to make clear plastic parts. Examples of common resins include acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS or PE. Right after molding, clear parts can be used for various kinds of viewscreens, light pipes, cases, covers, and many other common household items that need to be at least semi-transparent. That's where Vapor Polishing comes in.

Really nice, saw some videos before. We do plastic surface restorations for many years (cable cars, gondolas etc.) Where can we buy the equipment in Europe? Does it work on stage (portable) outdoor? Thanks for the informations.

This works on PE (polyethylene), but will it also work on PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol)?

Very interesting. Is there a similar method that could be used with polyurethane resin like or including smooth on crystal clear? Could save me a massive amount of multi-stage hand polishing. Thanks for another great video.

To protect against Methylene Chloride, the NIOSH Chemical Pocket Guide only recommend respiratory protection in a supplied air mode. Therefore, there is no cartridges suitable for an application where Methylene Chloride is present. soooo, what cartridge are you using? What is the "positive air pressure "system the technician is wearing? Thanks.

What grit sandpaper is best suited for this kind of polishing?

2500 to 3000 and then polish. The further you go up in grit the easier it is to finish and have it look perfect. Also if you start low like 220 grit, each progressive grit MUST be stepped up in small increments. Don't want to skip grits to find out in final polish you can still see rough sanding marks from advancing to rapidly. Use a mister and some water with one or 2 drops of Dawn dish washing soap to keep your sandpaper clean and your material from burning as paper typically loads up without it...
