@Barbarian King the absolute best version i have ever heard was when Rostropovich conducted it in the soviet union. It is a crazy story and such an excellent performance. The video is on youtube!

I love how this could very well be the USA's answer to Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance.
@wcryan315 жыл бұрын
No, with respect, it's the USA's answer to "Rule Britannia!"
@disoriented15 жыл бұрын
@@wcryan31 I agree..in the U.S., 'Pomp and Circumstance' is known as a commencement tune when graduating high school or university. 'Rule Brittannia' is what the tune that most USAers automatically associate with the UK. 'God Save the Queen'..the tune is the same as 'My Country 'Tis of Thee' to us..but even when I was a small child, I could hear 'Rule Britannia' and know it was the UK!

Lol, imo Americas answer was just to steal it to use it for ourselves 😂

I don't think you would say that if you actually heard the words of the chorus that Sousa wrote and was actually sung at the 1985 Proms. Google the lyrics Sousa wrote to his march. @@markw3598

Did the audience actually hear what the chorus sang at the end? John Phillip Sousa wrote lyrics to the verses and the chorus. The chorus that was present with the orchestra actually sang at the end, making me wonder if they really understood what Sousa was saying.
@ericbwinter2 жыл бұрын
What was he saying? I searched all over and couldn’t find anything by the legitimate lyrics. By the way, the chorus wasn’t singing anything.

I remember when this was played slow enough to be considered a march, instead of at this frenetic pace.
@RomanusVII5 жыл бұрын
ViralTuber Yes, as a member of the Marching Band I can certainly tell how difficult it would be to march to this.

+ViralTuber, this is a concert performance. A grand performance at that.

I'm from Boston and the Boston Pops has copyright on this one !!!! And there was only one conductor that could lead this, Arthur Fielder. Although, the Proms certainly did a good job with this.....

Me again, Yank critic of Sousa marches at the Proms. A-This conductor, Handley, is either ignorant that Sousa always faced the audience to conduct, or perhaps he's afraid if he turns around the band will leave. B- He's teaching the junior maestros the incorrect method. But again, the Audience loved it and having strings in their marching band. Who doesn't love the trombone part at 1:43 or the piccolo solo at 2:00? by Greg Brown Bracket Mr. Bracket, that is my theory..
@VV_PaVria5 жыл бұрын
It must be understood that while Sousa's compositions were for the marching band, this is an arrangement for a symphony orchestra. Handley conducts the piece the way anyone would conduct for a symphony orchestra. Do you believe that Sousa's works be exclusive to the marching band only?
