Came for Starsector review (warcrimes), got convinced to play Project Wingman. Can confirm I can't listen to PW soundtracks without hearing missile alert. Funfact: Combat Chatter mod has several PW and ACE combat personalities for your officers.

Heh, nice Novaeria at the end there. UAF truly has ships worthy of being the be all end all to anything. I'm personally partial to the Cherry Vanguard myself. Nothing like tons of cargo capacity... and infinite ramming potential.

I am absolutely struggling in Nexerlin with all the new features. I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. However, I do have 3 colonies set up and they are struggling along.

I agree with and am very enthusiastic about many of your points in the "the game feels alive/starsector feels alive/not scripted" section. I disagree with one key point in the Nexerelin section: I don't think that Nexerelin turns Starsector into a 4x game. It turns it into an RPG4X game, which is a genre of game that I pretend exists because if I don't the voices get too loud for me to sleep at night. I call it that because the principal cycles of activity in this game are experienced as a single actor and rooted in the real desires and activities of other actors in the world, who not only react to your decisions but also make proactive decisions, much like the entities in a 4x game. People generally don't use this language because no sane variant of it has penetrated the lexicon yet; instead, they tend to use one of several terms, like RPG, 4x game, Immersive sim or just sim, or tycoon/colony game, making these kinds of games quite difficult to find en masse. The most common unique term I've seen used is "Mount and Bladelike," echoing the initial codifications of other genres like Doom clone, Metroidvania and Soulslike. In spite of their scarcity there are a precious few other fulfillers of this niche. There's Dwarf Fortress (adventurer mode), Sid Meier's Pirates, Stalker Anomaly, Mount and Blade (and its many standalone mods like: Perisno, Between Empires, Age of Arthur, Bones of Ragnvald, Sands of Faith, A World of Ice and Fire, Nova Aetas... ), Blood and Gold, Prison Architect (warden/escape mode), Sands of Salazar, Space Rangers. A lot of them are mods, mostly for Bethesda games; Arma, Skyrim and Fallout 4 all have player-created content that works for their games in a similar fashion. And naturally you can include Nexerelin in that category.

About that "the game feels alive" part, you should try rain world, probably the most immersive game i played, because like starsector, the world is moving organically. It's a totaly different game, but worth a try if you're not bothered by a steep learning curve

Oops, it appears that after trying to just find some good stellaris mods, I have ended up deciding that I should just play FTL, Long War, and Starsector instead. I love it when the KZfaq Rabbit Hole does this to me :} I really wish you had told me that there were so much better games to play before I spent all that money and time on all of stellaris and empire at war, tsk tsk
