A new format I am playing with. The first part of the video is a little bit of 'in the field' footage. Then the second part of the video is the full edit in DxO Photolab 7.
If you want to check out any of DxOs software, it would be great if you would use my affiliate links. It costs you nothing but supports the channel. Thanks.

What I enjoyed most about your video is your smooth explanations and slow mouse use to guide the viewer through the editing process. I jotted down some notes, so I can follow your tips later. Thank you sir for this wonderful video.

Hello Don, I'm referring to minute 17:40 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsiCo5l7zLa-kp8.html There you set the saturation slider in the HSL tool to "0" to see what exactly is selected (sky). There is an easier method: Place the mouse pointer over the blue "cake slice" in the HSL tool and press the left mouse button at the same time as the, I think 'CTRL' key. This should have the same effect. Thank you for sharing your findings with us. Your personable and calm manner make your videos a pleasure to watch. Best wishes from Austria to New Zealand! Manfred

Thanks for watching and for the kind feedback. that technique is just my habit... and also the Ctrl trick doesn't work (on windows at least) when using HSL in the local adjustment area... so it saves me forgetting and trying to use Ctrl in there.

@@dxflow3271 Hello Don, I have to apologize, I then saw in one of the videos I watched after my comment that you use this technique anyway. Yes, unfortunately it doesn't work with the local adjustments. And now I'm looking forward to your new video on Nik Collection 7! 👍 Kind regards Manfred

Being a wedding photographer and having to edit so many images in a setting, I've not been able to use Photolab since other editors like On1Raw and Luminar Neo went to AI masking to massively speed up my workflow. It's been a game changer and I can't afford to go back to the old way of masking with DXO Photolab.

Fair enough. I have done enough situations where I had masses of images to get through and I know seconds add up quickly... any anything that can save you time is a plus. I recently photos for an event (just to help out - so no pressure :) ) and I ran all the images (about 1200) through PureRAW and then through radiant photo - without even looking at them and then did the cull from there with the JPEGs. Actually worked surprisingly well and kept me from fussing over them.

Very nice video! I enjoyed the first part showing on location. But I must say that your editing is great learning. And your explanations are clear. Thanks.

I enjoyed the video. Nice to see someone else who uses DxO PhotoLab. I've been using it since probably version 3 upgrading with each major release; however, I didn't do the 6 to 7 upgrade. I thought I might wait until 8 this time. My favorite feature has been Deep Prime, which in my opinion is the best denoising algorithm for raw anywhere. Anyway, nice video. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah. I am not super worried about noise often... But when I do want to clean some up I find nothing hits the balance of clean but still natural like dxo does.

I like to follow the way you edit your photos with PhotoLab - although I personally have a different approach.

Great to hear! One of the big reasons I started this channel is because I like watching how other people do things and there weren't too many videos like that for PhotoLab. :)

Helpful video! New to Photolab 7. Still struggling with Control Line. But like the local adjustments function.

Glad it helped! I do have a video on the new local adjustments tool (including control lines) on my channel if you have a look it might help.

Nice video, thanx for control plus crop tip for cropping unconstrained, few tips from myself, when you click right on a slider it moves by 5 (-5 on left side and + 5 on right side) and if you double click on a slider it comes back to default (often 0), and I like to use the smart lighting tool where I put a focus window or windows on the highest highlight parts of the pic to control clipping

Thanks for watching and thanks for the tips. The double click to reset a slider is one I use often and even works on elements like the hue twist on the HSL tool. The plus and minus 5 with a right click I had not ever come across - I had used the click and then do the scroll wheel to do a similar thing of plus or minus 5, but the right click feels like something I will use more. I am also interested to try out your smart lighting tip too :). Thanks for sharing.

6:40 Yeah rookie mistake to not using a beast of ND filter to slow down/wash out the water waves

I was pretty happy with this one actually. I did that ND with another image from that same trip and wished I hadn't. I feel like that has a place for sure... But my taste is more on showing some movement right now.
