Part 1 Here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/epqaiLd625a8lo0.html
In Part 2, we "birth" the cakes and actually fruit mushrooms! This is the most satisfying part of the whole process.
Want to follow along?
It is not the best way to grow mushrooms, but it is a fun science project for growing mushrooms at home, and you can do it without any special equipment that you can't get at the grocery store or hardware store.
SUBSTRATE:
For Every 6 cakes use about:
-3.5 cups vermiculite
-1 cup brown rice flour
-350 ml water
MATERIAL REQUIRED (part 1, substrate and inoculation):
-Coarse Vermiculite (look in garden centers or here amzn.to/2yBGQvc )
-Brown Rice Flour (I used Bob’s Red Mill amzn.to/2KoWWuZ)
-250 ML wide mouth canning jars (make sure they are wide mouth or else you won’t be able to get your cakes out amzn.to/3axaUFE)
-tinfoil for covering the lids
-large clear tote for SAB (112 qt should be good amzn.to/2xRbl0b)
-isopropyl alcohol (if you can find it right now!)
-spray bottle for isopropyl alcohol
-paper towel
-lighter or alcohol lamp
-liquid culture syringe (i used mycelium emporium)
MATERIAL REQUIRED (part 2, fruiting):
-another large tote for making the fruiting chamber
-coarse perlite
-another spray bottle for water
-repti-fogger (optional)

Hi, in the SGFC, do you use new perlite every time you birth a set of cakes? or keep re using the same perlite? I only ask because sometimes spores explode all over it if they arent picked in time. Thanks

Great tutorial! If i may add one thing: please use distilled water to mist/fog/dunk. Tap water won't kill fungi but it isn't good for it either because of the added chemicals like fluoride. Just a cheap way to get better yields and its like $1-2 a gallon. Same with the cakes. From A/B tests I've noticed faster colonization and larger yeilds with distilled water. Keep it up!

I would like to do oysters but I have to do them inside because I live in an apartment l, is there a tech that you would recommend for yield? I would like to sell them at at a farmer's market in my area so size and yield is pretty important to me

Im no expert but you can make a dozen cakes and then when they are full and ready to birth you can break them up into a lasangna pan with a new casing layer, and the 3d jars will end up fruiting 2d, hence way more productive.
