I began genealogy many years before the internet. My father began in the 1960s. I do not download images or media. I transcribe the documents into the notes section of FTM in chronological order. This helps to analyze the information and helps to detemine if it is the correct person, migratory route, etc., and helps to remember the ancestor. One thing that FTM users need to do is to compact the files on occasion to help it run more smoothly - much like defragging and cleaning files on your computer.

Thanks for the video. Your timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I am new to family research and I only found out about Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic yesterday. I have begun researching and reading reviews to decide which software to purchase. This was so helpful!

First thank you so very much for providing this important information. I had a FTM back in 2007 I saved to a floppy disc that I can not find now. Years later I started with Ancestry. Although I like Ancestry I enjoyed the reports and timelines that the FTM had (I hope they still have). First I am looking to get the FTM now and trying to see where to purchase it and in what form? 2nd in doing so hopefully with all that you have shared will attempt to sync with Ancestry . Again, Thank you (LIKED & SUBSCRIBED)

Thank you for the informative video! I appreciate the effort you put into explaining the software. I was wondering if you could consider creating a more advanced tutorial video in the future. With so many options available, I sometimes worry that I'm not fully utilizing the software's capabilities. It would be incredibly helpful to learn some advanced techniques and features. Keep up the great work!

Hi . I would like to create a family tree for my wife , but she is russian and need cyrillic management since names are in cyrillic. It could be nice to have the possibility to see the tree in cyrillic and latin characters too. Ask too much ? (I am italian )

I thought FamilySearch has the ability to switch to various languages.
