Mom expressed dissatisfaction with the increased maintenancing of his Locs. She had begun his Loc journey at 3 years old and this was not the first time she had to start over! As she began his Loc journey, unfortunately the situation quickly became problematic as she noticed his Locs were always unraveling, prompting her the idea to add hair to maintain an actual lock. Well his hair locked but overtime, It was obvious that his Locs were much thicker than his natural hair growth and would require the continuance of adding more hair to achieve a natural look. “I can’t imagine how stressful that must have been.”😮‍💨
To initiate a Loc journey for my youngest clients, I utilize the ‘Block Braiding’ method. Maintaining Locs for children can be challenging due to their very active nature, which can lead to frequent unraveling. Everyone’s hair is different so, not all Locs for children are this concerning but, some are and that’s where I come in.
My approach ensures a guaranteed hair lock and reduces the need for reoccurring maintenance appointments. As the Locs progress, we will be using the ‘Interlocking’ method throughout the entire Loc journey, minimizing product usage and promoting natural growth while avoiding harmful ingredients.
The ‘Interlocking’ technique, is a Dreadlock maintenance method that involves threading the ends of locs back and forth through the root. This process creates a firm hold that helps Dreadlocks mature more securely and can make maintenance last longer than other methods. Interlocking can also strengthen roots, making it a very good option for people with fine hair as well.
