Welcome to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team - Starter Series! I'm playing through this game to truly find out what starter is the best natural starter - meaning no TMs, no bag items, just pure starter power! This is a Pokemon Challenge Series that I'm very excited about, and I hope you enjoy!

Pokemon Blue Rescue Team Starter Study Rules
- Only use the two Pokemon in dungeons; no allies can be recruited unless mandatory by story (see Magnemite, Abosl), and they cannot join the party in dungeons.
- Minimum missions during free days (2 Tiny Woods, 3 Thunderwave Cave, 2 Tiny Woods, 3 Thunderwave Cave, 4 Mt. Steel, 2 Tiny Woods)
- No items when entering a dungeon*
- No TMs or HMs can be used
- No Quicksaves
- No Wondermail
- Final time based on In-game time AFTER cutscenes
*When entering Thunderwave Cave, you will have the items that you got from Tiny Woods + Butterfree's reward. As this is unavoidable (and because the dungeon is pretty easy anyway), this is an exception.
*Once we "go on the run", I am allowed to bring up to 2 apples/big apples as dungeons are longer (subject to change)
*I can bring one "held item"
If repeated attempts proves impossible, training can be done via Dojo (this would add time, obviously). Technically, these are no Reviver Seed runs, but if I end up using them, then it will be accounted for in the final time.

This made my day! I had a rough final clarinet performance this morning so I love the mystery dungeon content to keep my mind off of it. Keep up the awesome work!

Let's go with Chikorita and Pikachu. I want it to be at bit easier, but still have massive humps to overcome.

This feels like one of the choices that looks harder than it actually is, though we'll have to give it a run to find out!

Squirtle is Bond because it's 007 in the dex, yeah? It's my least picked gen 1 starter, I used to always go for Charmander, but now it's Bulbasaur because I don't really like any of the other grass types. I'm also getting a little bit tired of Charmander since they've given it a lot of special treatment all the way since gen 6 I think

Bond... Squirtle Bond (yeppers) Charmander's always been the option I chose the least (I tend to lean towards water and away from fire, grass every now and then), and I get what you mean. Then again, dragons be cool lol

Funnily enough this was actually the combo I used the last time I played through this game a couple months ago. And tbh it's one of my favorite combos. Charmander's smoke screen absolutely neuters things, Squirtle gets ice beam for Groudon and Rayquaza and they balance each other well (one offensive one defensive) and Charizard and Blastoise are actually a really good combo for the lvl 1 dungeons in the post game as well. Along with them being a good type combo for the main story also. And fun fact I also found a really good way to completely neuter Groudon: get a Tangela/Seedot and give them bullet seed. I've done this the last 2 times I've played the game (one with each of them) and I beat Groudon in 2 turns lol

Bullet Seed and Multi-hit moves are absolutely ridiculous in these games With TMs, this team (and all of them, tbh) becomes much better to work with. Any Pokemon with moves like Smokescreen or Attract are high up my "I wanna beat the game quick and easy" ratings too

Yeah the Bullet Seed/Chlorophyll combo makes quick work of Groudon 😂 takes a lot of stress away from that part of the game lol

EXP curves in PMD are interesting. The starters have boosted curves compared to other Pokémon (for obvious reasons), so if a player wants to main a different Pokémon in the postgame, it can be really difficult to level it compared to the starters, especially if they don't drag that Pokémon along with the starter/partner during the story. And speaking of, did you know that Magnemite's EXP curve is purposefully nerfed? It's to make sure players don't have access to a super buff Steel-type with Sonicboom super early in the game, since it's the first recruit. But that means leveling it is a huge pain! XD

I barely understand how EXP curves work in the main series games, let alone in PMD (and stat boosts? brah) That's a really interesting thing, but sorta makes sense. The fact that it technically applies to all of the Magnemite though is probably a bit bothersome
