reliving the moments of 'failure' and waking up in panic is very relatable, but it also brings back the biased judging during the badge trials. Ben always just Barry the benefit and cuts Mike no slack at all. I hope they had fun and actually came up with the ideas for concept and presentation themselves and didn't rely on the food team. I'm glad this series is finally getting a nice wrap-up, and I love the fact that you've brought back these three chefs, but giving Mike a 10-minute penalty is such a terrible idea. The reason I'm against it so much is that it really makes it feel like there was no plan for the badges and that the penalty was incorporated just to give the badges meaning. This is like a teacher saying to a student, "hey, you did worse than the other students on all of the practice assignments, so you get 10 fewer minutes on the final exam." It just doesn't make sense because now it's not a fair competition. I sincerely hope Mike doesn't have a 10 minute penalty in all three rounds...

For a video touting itself as the big finale of the chef skills badge challenge, it felt more like a usual video where they just told the normals to go make a 3 course meal, except now there are 3 pro chefs grading them instead of Ben. I was expecting a grand "let's test you on all the badges you've collected and see what skills you've learned and internalized" sort of finale instead of what basically ended up as "I made this really good dish a while back, I'm gonna do that again but a little different." Especially when a ton of the chef skills were for things like budgeting, time management, multitasking, efficiency, ect.

Starting Mike down by 10 minutes was a serious handicap and it showed in the final scores too I feel like that as a bit unfair. I suppose the intent was to push Mike to try and do more in less time, but I feel like if you are going to handicap anyone, start Barry and Jamie 5 minutes after Mike because Mike is in last place and the other two are tied for first. I really hope Mike won't be starting 10 minutes behind in all 3 sections of this final battle. If so, I don't think Mike has a chance of winning since he won't be able to accomplish anything nearly as complex as the other two.
@henrybrice86
@henrybrice86 9 ай бұрын
10 minutes will be a smaller percentage of overall time for the other dishes, so it would, relatively, be a smaller handicap. And Mike lost points for two main reasons - not enough salt & acid, and using hard focaccia thins instead of soft bread. I don't think 10 minutes more would have given him time to bake a focaccia (maybe, I could be wrong), so it all came down to seasoning and ingredients.
@neruneri

I think it's the right idea to have some form of consequence for the leaderboard leading up to the finale, but I'm not sure time was the right one. If you guys continue this format in the future, I think it risks the loser losing even more by taking away something as critical as time from them. It'd be better to give the leader an opportunity they can try to leverage, like getting to pick an extra premium ingredient or something like that.

Mandolins should come with a 'finger guard'. It's ridiculous for a normal not to use one - especially on very small things like radishes. At the very least, it's showing poor form for everyone watching. It's not even a hack to use it - it's a safety issue and an integral part of mandolin use. Far too many people seriously injure themselves on mandolins because they don't use the finger guards - the food team is again making Jamie's life harder for no reason. Chefs may not use the finger guard, but all normals should!

@@chandrawong449I disagree slightly in that I find the hand guards so awkward that I feel either less safe using them or like they mess up the cuts, depending on design. My preference is a cut proof glove (a chain mail one, not "cut proof" fabric) like I see fishmongers use because then worst case you're going to hear a horrible noise of metal on metal, but you can get good control and slice all the way to the last bit.

I assume the thinking is that the previous challenges should have some impact on the finale, because if it all hinges on how they do in the finale, then people may be wondering about the point of the badges. Wow! These guys are bringing their A game for the final! Everything looked so good! I would love to get all these dishes as the first 3 courses of a 9 course meal; Jamie and Barry's dishes being a little bit smaller and Mike's dish as is! Can't wait until the main course competition!

Why would Barry take the penalty? He had the same number of badges as Jamie.

I'm glad there's a finale for this at last, kinda disappeared for a bit and probably should've been done ages ago, but disappointed it's all boiled down to what is basically a versus battle.

Yeah it feels like an odd way to do the finale. I'll still watch and enjoy it no doubt, but imo it would've made more sense for Ben or Kush to create a complex recipe using as many of the skills the "normals" have been tested on as possible. Then get the normals to all cook that same dish so you can compare how well they executed the skills and how nice the final dish is overall.

"You can scoop it all up on a fork", proceeded by all three judges taking their knife and swiping everything onto the barrier. THEN they don't like the cracker, when the cracker was a barrier/food assist. The CRUMBS were the bread component. They want salt, I'd be salty if I'd showed someone there was a special way to eat it and then they threw the plan out the window.

This should absolutely be an anual or biannual event so that the position of sorted sue chef is never safe. I think by this time next year the 2 normals should have a goal amount of badges to achieve in order to earn the right to challenge for the title. While the sorted sue chef has to achieve a certain number of badges in order to maintain their title. I think some tweaking to this idea would make it amazing, and would bring even more meaning to that title! Keep up the amazing work on everything you guys do!

A 10-minute penalty for Mike is absolutely absurd. If the other 2 normals got 100% of the time for getting 30 badges, how did Mike merit a 10-minute penalty for getting 29 badges? Since Ben is a sophist, I'm sure he can give me a total BS answer.

Kinda feels like people somewhat forgot the different badges they were tested on throughout. Looking back you can compare them with the techniques each of them implemented and even ones that they failed to get before or struggled with were on display here. Their success and short comings for badges were reflected in their dishes. (ie Barry focusing on seasoning and plating which he failed at and had taken away previously). They may not have emphasized specific badges earned that they were using in this battle but looking closer you can tell these dishes were a culmination of what they had learned.

Idea: Comfort food with a twist. Method: get comfort food recipes from around the world. But owing to the trend of high end restaurants/chefs taking ordinary comfort food, cheffing it up, and then reselling it back to people at insane prices, you make two versions of it - the original recipe, and a "cheffy" version. The twist: The chefs make the original recipe. The normals make the "cheffy" version using their imaginations as to how they imagine it would be served in a restaurant.

Rooting for Mike, but predicting a win for Jamie and a possible “going out with a bang and missing the mark” for Barry’s creativity. Nice to see Mike’s inventiveness and fun shine in his dish, hope his whole meal is themed this way. Also, will the losers go to remedial classes? Good luck everyone!

Glad you guys are getting to the end of this massive competition! (That sounds weird, more like i'm glad we can see who takes top spot!😂) Ever since Baz lost the brownie points battle i've been rooting for him for this whole "season," and i'm super happy to see how he's improved! Top of the board, Barry, who woulda thunk it!? Mike has always been a good cook (he maybe just gets flustered too much😂.) People have been raving about Jamie's "improvements" over the last few years, but i've seen him cook on here for the last 10 years, and he's always been a top notch home cook! Barry however, I feel he gets too much flack, but more times than not he's either making some extraordinary & creative dish, or he has specific knowledge in some cooking & baking that Mike and Jay never remember. I know he's the _lovable idiot that people love to pick on,_ but this Chef Skills Challenge has shown that he has what it takes to be tip of the normals, too! Love ya, Baz, i'm rooting for you all the way!❤ P.S. - I would love it if we get a series like the brownie points battle again after this one wraps up. Just a simple year long event where the normals see who can impress the most chefs, and the winner gets a prize, while the loser gets a forfeit. There doesn't need to be hundreds of big night in's, ultimate battles, challenges/face-to-face's, etc... Just like maybe 10 opportunities between the guys (some might be one on one, rather than the 3 of them together; who knows?) where they can try to make something extraordinary. Of course, i'm all for a reprieve from competition, and to hopefully get more vlogs and maybe even the return of Big Night In, or Made Personal?👀 Would love to see more personal cooking stuff, or group things with you guys again!
