For someone looking to start a business, investing time and money in CNC is probably more useful than college these days.

Awesome collaboration video. These are 2 of the 3 that inspired me to start my own shop. It's a slow starter, but it will succeed. With enough passion, faith and heart anything can succeed.

Knife machining is even more competitive than aerospace in my opinion and can be just as hard, you have to be either really really good, or really cheap to be making knife’s, kudos, we just got done with contract for Benchmade and it really had us working hard and showing us our weaknesses, the profit margins are slim, tolerances are super tight, and there is no room for error! They have to be flawless to be acceptable .

So encouraging and awesome to hear this story and what's even more encouraging is to hear of a young person that learned and enjoys the machine trade. Being a middle aged machinist who is now evolved in operations I've seen so many come and go. You said it right, its the passion that we have to take a bar and turn it into something to run a studer grinder and measure .00005 stock that you took off. My hat's off to you I hope you do well and as soon as I'm done typing this I will look into one of your knives.

This was awesome to watch, I’m actually going into making car parts and other odds and ends in a couple years so laying the framework now. It really helps to hear someone got off the ground with that minimal funding. The main takeaway was dead on as well; just tinker and work, find your passion in creation and the rest comes

I'm still in my barn with my grizz cnc i made like 8 years ago making ice fishing products for fish finders. There was a need for a solution with plastic transducer mounts breaking in the cold. So being a very experienced job shop machinist with 2 engineering degrees.. I set out on my way to make that difference. I'm still going strong if you don't have the will and the strength to learn /fail/and die trying. Making a business work while growing is just not going to happen. Its a everyday struggle not just when you feel like it. I love what i do for a living as well as my home shop. I kind of like being a word of mouth business. Bringing a product to someones hands with quality and high end components with a aww factor. That's what MasterCraft fishing is all about. This industry has made me a great living without a doubt.

This guy did not start from the bottom. I started from the bottom. You know how I had to make my knives? I didn't have a garage. I had to find iron ore and scrape it out with a butter knife. To smelt it down I had to leave it in the sun under a magnifying glass for three days. To form the blade I left it under a busy intersection so cars would flatten it out. I sharpened it with a pencil sharpener I stole from a child at the bus stop. You don't know the struggle. In all seriousness though that's awesome!

Doing it on the side of a normal job until you make enough for your savings to carry you over until you do make money.... Working 5-9 after a 7-4 (7-10 after a 6-6 for me) and weekends isnt fun but that's the most reliable way.

Yeah, that or a spare room in an apartment if you can avoid getting evicted The real problem for the bottom line is the cost. Even at 5k, it's not a low bottom, especially for those who are bad at saving money. I'm not even out of my 20s and currently work for shares (or the machines written as securities if the company fails), being able to save 1k/mo due to me focusing on saving and setting up passive income. I could barely start my side-hustle job shop for optical machinery prototyping and even 2 years and 600k down the hole, i'm just starting to break even on that.
