In this video I start a new batch of bonsai from seeds. This is a potpourri batch of a lot of different types of tree seeds including:
Chinese Elm
Blue Maple
Japanese Black Pine
Bristlecone Pine
Kousa Dogwood
Mimosa
and more.
I show you how to easily do it step by step. And I give you some nice tips on what to do in order to get your seeds germinated.

I was wondering if you could help me. My name is Shadow and I've been trying to grow about eight different species of bonsai but I don't know if I'm doing it right and I'm becoming a little discouraged. There were a lot of seeds that were supposed to be soaked in warm water overnight for 24 hours and I did so in the little plastic containers they came in. I put purified water in with them and then placed them in a plastic box with a heating pad and turned the heating pad back on every time it turned its self off every 2 hours for 24 hours.. Yes...I lost sleep over this... I had to repeat this process twice because the heating pad must have been set too high the first time and I basically cooked them. the second time I had the heating pad set on low and they still didn't germinate visibly and one species even smelled rotten after I open the bottle that it was in... By the way these were new seeds, not the ones I cooked before. Ficus seeds were very very tiny and there were hundreds of them in this tiny jar that I was given I didn't know if I had to plant them all or just one of those tiny little specks. the one that I wanted to grow the most with this beautiful red tree that had to be germinated by placing it in boiling water for 24 hours. I really didn't want to mess this up and I was just afraid that that was going to cook it like food and that sounded insane. So to put the seeds into shock I boiled water and then place the seeds in and let it cool and kept it in that same water for 24 hours. I know they're going to take a long time to sprout but I was just too curious and tried to dig up some of the other seeds to see if they were even sprouting and it appears that they have decomposed into the dirt because I cannot find them and they're in pretty small planter pots that came in the kit... Also I found a tiny spot on one of the pots on the soil and it looked like mold... Please... TELL ME WHAT I DID WRONG! I wanted this so bad. I wanted a bonsai to nurture and care for to help with stress, but this seems to be causing a lot of it...
@FlaaffyFluff
@FlaaffyFluff 6 жыл бұрын
I can tell right away where you might've went wrong. You gotta make sure the water is warm IN THE BEGINNING. (I also think I know the kit you have. mine have begun sprouting quite nicely, still waiting on ficus) Firstly, you cant just leave em in the container that's air tight n full of water and put em on a heating pad for so long. Turn on your faucet, let it warm up to semi-hot but not scalding, then carefully prepare some plastic dishes for your seeds. I used some pill week organizers that I have left over from previous use , rinsed it out, then put the seeds in their respective parts. (I put pinus in the Monday slot, Ficus in tuesday, etc) then pour the semi-hot warm water into the slots and shut em. Leave em to soak for 24 hours (sometimes you can do it a few hours early) and don't bother em. then take em out CAREFULLY with your tweezers. ONLY the ones that sank to the bottom. Plant em in your soil. Now the waiting game. I waited a month and a half for my Delonix, Pinus, and Mesosequoia. I know it's tempting especially after a failure to dig up the seeds, but you cannot disturb them!! Disturbing them can trumatize them, uproot them, or even break roots off. They're VERY delicate! As for the boiling water one, you did a good job. just don't dig em up again. As for the mould, I just keep burying it under. I have a heater a distance away keeping the room warm where they are so that they sprout easier and the mould doesnt have much moisture to manifest. Also, keep em in a place that gets shaded sunlight-- like a window. Too much sunlight can harm the seedlings!! Good luck, Shadow !!

I just got a bonsai starter kit. It's got 6 different seed types. My favorite is the Japanese red maple. After reading the instruction book, it says you're supposed to put the seeds in hot water(122f) for 24 hours. So how do I do that? Is hot water needed for 24 hours? I want them all to do well, but especially that red maple. Any help you could give would be appreciated as I'm a total beginner
@epicfantasy

Good luck with those beautiful seeds! I would interpret the instructions as start the water out at approximately that temp then it will cool to room temp. That's ok. Red maple is such a beautiful tree!

People kinda jus add the name 'bonsai' to a seed to make it more general for less informed people. Kinda like when people call a cherry tree a 'Sakurai! owo' tree. Your mind will immediately go to a pink tree rather than one with fruit, yknow? even if its the same thing. Bonsai tree = reg tree sakurai tree = cherry tree
