Wow, great job! I like it when people experiment on their own because, what may not work for one just may work for another!

Thank you! A nine month long journey and I am happy with the results. I tried to plant some herb seeds earlier in the spring with that goal in mind. Wish me luck 🤞

Glad it worked 👍🏽 Not sure how much experience you’ve had with air layering trees? Oaks a amongst the hardest (if not the hardest) to air layer. I’ve not seen that much cambium removed for air layering - ever. In case the medium to almost if not airtight enough it can go weeks if not months and stay wet (moist). By cutting lower, it would be much easier to pot, and be more stable in the pot until the roots are established. Over time the stump will decay naturally. But great job 👏

Amazing! Gives me hope since I air-layered my oak in the spring time. The leaves sprouted but I think I’ll wait until next spring when hopefully I’ll cut the trunk and pot up 🤞

You may want to prune some of the foilage because it will help the roots cope better less load on them trying to feed the leaves also spray the leaves to help if weather is hot and keep out of direct sun good luck enjoy your blogs

I think my only suggestion would have been to use 100% sphagnum with rooting powder. But it appears the tree did well good for you! My question is what species is that oak tree?

Excellent work my man!! Excellent 👌🏼 very happy for you, I like taking on hard tasks like this too not quite sure I’m as successful haha. Speaking of oaks I remember putting a couple of handfuls of acorns in an old bucket last November and dropped a load of soil in it and completely forgot about it until April when I went in my shed! I thought my son was doing some weird experiment again until I remembered 😅 it looked like a bush in the bucket and then I remembered… pretty much all of the acorns germinated. Not quite sure what I’m going to do with them all though.

Hi there, unfortunately I lost the plant when I went on vacation and it succumbed to the heat wave last year. Before that, it was doing very well. I am working on another one

Well done, I had a similar result with a lilac which appears to have "taken" too. Has your oak tree survived the 23/24 winter?
