Now it's time to start the cleanup process, so I found a chainsaw and one of the buildings that I don't even know who it belongs to. It's not mine, but it worked well enough to cut up some of the trees near the shed. Until I found my chainsaw. In the rubble.
I talked to the tree professional this morning and they wanted way more money than I was prepared to spend to clean up these trees and my yard. This is something that the insurance company will not pay for or reimbursed so it is an out-of-pocket expense no matter how I do it. So rather than paying an amount of money for somebody to come do what I can do , I spent a little bit of money on a bigger more powerful chainsaw. This chainsaw will be able to cut up the larger trees that my smaller one would not have the capability for. And is another tool to add to my collection they will save me a lot of money in the long run.
Moved to cutting up the trees that were laying on the vehicles and were able to assess the damage on those. Still breaks my heart to see my bronco destroyed and at this point, I don't know what we are going to do for its future.
We started piling the debris where my burn pit normally is in the backyard and cutting trees. They were already laying in the burn pit to isolate it. Later in the evening, we tried to light it on fire to burn it down some, but we struggled to keep it lit because it's so much , Wood hasn't dried out enough.

I’m seeing a future project. Take some of the larger diameter logs, and cut them to seat height. And place them around the fire pit area, for people to sit when you are burning and having family time.

A couple of things...wear protective gear with that saw...tree loading, compression vs.tension...cut off limbs....burn pile, start small, have feeder pile, easier to manage...2/3 diesel mix to 1/3 gas...trust me, I've bur n Ed thousands of piles...retired cal fire firefighter...ps, don't burn around power lines

Obviously you don't have a log burner, enough timber to cut and dry there for a while! Anyway until next time "keep those fires burning" !! You missed that one Katie...😉

We do have a couple of woodburning stones on the property. So I’m gonna keep the big logs off to the side and let them season.

A pallet with a used tire or 2 stacked on top buried in the brush pile with a 5-10 gallon 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and used motor oil poured on the tire and all around should get it going. Use a leaf blower to feed it air. Only time that hasn't worked for me is if you wait longer than 30 days after trees drop. After that, might as well wait for it to season a little. Something about the gasses being released from the wood or something

Great suggestion, but I wouldn’t recommend the tires anymore, back in the day. It was pretty common, but the toxic black smoke is just awful.

Tractor supply has the best black licorice. That small chain saw would cut better with a sharp blade. Should be chips flying, not saw dust. After a couple of big trees, need to sharpen. All the best.
