also have your voltage front and center and watch it constantly, learn how the quad responds at different times in the flight, you should number each battery and get to know them very very well. success often depends on you spotting a battery with a weak cell very quickly, so number them and monitor them when charging, clcik through the charger to see what each cell is at and how many mah you put in. flying fast will lose a lot of volts but then recover on the ground, but flying slowly will use all the amps and not recover on the ground, so there is more danger of suddenly and completely emptying the battery. watch your voltage at all times.

I didn't figure out the racing thing until I had like 75-80 hours in liftoff. I started a race and, at first, I sucked. I quickly figured it out, though and now, at 104 hours in the sim, I have much, much better control of my quad, both in the sim and in real life! I'm almost finished with my first real 5" build, just waiting for my 03 Air unit to arrive, and I'll be bando bashing in no time! Lol! I'm forever grateful to all the FPV KZfaqrs who I've watched to get to this point and to DJI for the FPV potato and the avata that have started me on this amazing journey into FPV!

I am at around 10 hours on the sim and have tried the race a few times, but it is hard. I am still getting used to the controller gimbals and have to tweak them more. Still having issues with going through narrow places or making really good turns. But with practice it will get better.

The problem I faced was the algorithm pumping older videos that aren't as relevant in 2023. Between the Avata and bind n fly I'd go back to tell myself to build one. I'm not throwing shade on DJI or bind n fly. RR was actually super humble and patient with me. There's just a whole lot of knowledge that comes with understanding your quad that you obtain by building it. I also wouldn't have wasted 2 months flying in a sim with the dji controller 2. Again, not throwing shade, but gimbals with more precise strokes open up a new world to you. Great video.

I couldn't agree more! I flew my first 50 hours or so in the sim with the DJI rc2 and I had a really hard time controlling the drone precisely. I bought a Boxer (highly recommended) and I almost instantly had better control over the quad and have gotten exponentially better since then. Of course, I still fly my FPV and Avata with the rc2, but the improvements from switching to full size gimbals in the sim, have translated to the smaller gimbals, too. I'm also almost finished with my first build and I am very happy that I went that route vs bnf. Even if it winds up costing a little more, I built the quad I want the way I wanted it! I also know how to solder now! Lol!

What is a good all around FPV drone? One that does the speed, flicks and so on but also to be able to follow subjects from time to time? Stumbled upon Dji FPV , but no follow mode, and it also seems.. so slow, compared with these custom builds. I'm an engineer myself, willing to learn, to build maybe one, but don't know much about drones yet. I also have a gopro 10 if it counts, willing to buy a gopro 10 naked if necessary. Budget ~1k

I would say that 5-10 hours is good to start flying in open areas. Gives you experience flying it irl for the first time to get the hang of it! But once you start talking about going into more filled places with obstacles than that’s when you need a little more flying time

great stuff. I ordered a chimera pro v2 from dji 03 and all my excitement went away when i absolutely could not connect to the rc2 and so far no result and will probably send it back and stay with dji fpv, disappointment unfortunately. Do you have any advice what could be wrong .

So have connectivity with goggles , video is on but no info, battery level nothing, just GPS, RC2 is connected ( connected but no armed )cause is detected by drone , RC sticks error don't know why. Is probably something small to do but is me , technologie don't like me 😅
