Alafia (peace) everyone. As always I'll love to thank you all for your love and support and the positive energy you send my way. Please remember my videos and content are NOT for everyone. If what I'm say do not apply to you or your loc journey that's fine but please keep the negative comments to yourselves and allow others to appreciate what I'm trying to do for the loc community, which is educate. Like I always say, "if you don't like my videos or what I'm saying, then don't watch", it's that simple. BIGGGG SHOUT OUT to all my positive Queens and Kings that subscribe to my channel. YOU GUYS ROCK.

I'm so blessed to have found you and your channel! I'm 2 months into my loc journey. I decided to have my first professional retwist just to ensure I wasn't jacking up the back part of my head. I had scheduled my appointment 3 weeks ago and after watching several of Yannie's video I decided I would text the stylist and confirm that I didn't want to use products, other than water and oil. She asked for a pic of my locs (ooh, just saying that "my locs" feelings so good!) She then proceeded to tell me they must use products AND my hair texture required interlocking and should not have been started with 2 strand twists. I hated to do it, but I cancelled the appointment. This is MY hair and I know how I want it to be treated. PLUS, although certain sections of my hair has a softer texture, I'm loving the look of the locs in the back of my head. They kept unraveling but I took Yanni's advice and left them alone and guess what? They are DISRESPECTFUL and I love it. I wish I had treated my whole head the same! But we live and learn! Enjoy your journey!!

Peace Queen👑 🙌🏾 I'm so grateful for this video popping up as I search how to start my locs. I've been wanting to loc my hair for a few years now though afraid of not starting in a healthy manner. I am beyond grateful for all of the information you provided here. I never knew that all that gel, beeswax, souffle, etc. Is unnecessary for locs. I'm so glad to know that I don't have to become a product junkie, just to have locs. I HAD to subscribe to your channel within the first few sentences you spoke. Lol no offense to anyone else though this is exactly why I love Trinidadians. Straight to the point. Strong no chasers. Within this short video, I've learned MORE about locs than I have over the past few years of wanting to loc my hair myself. So Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been doing faux locs in my hair with yarn for the past year on and off. Trying to get comfortable, and use to seeing myself with locs. Before I build the courage to actually commit to locs. I'm going to wash this oil out of my hair and utilize every bit of advice that you have provided here. Much Gratitude 🙏🏾👑💪🏾💜

Most of my family has locs and NOBODY started with comb coils that is a fairly new technique and I believe it’s mostly a salon technique... Also we call plaits when it’s your natural hair... box braids is a style wen you are adding hair to it and generally box parting... I’m on my second set of locs 4mos in with two strand twists... I love them... they always look bomb!

It really depends on YOUR HAIR chemistry. Everything doesn't work. Im lost on what she is doing to retwist or maybe that's in other videos. I went to a shop to start mine and they did comb coils. I palm roll for maintenance now and I haven't had any issues yet. For sure do NOT use wax, cremes and other heavy or white substances. Will be 3 years in September and I'm about an inch past my shoulder. I suggest knowing your hair and not wanting a rushed process if you wasnt to start your locs. Best of luck to all!

I did comb coils for me and my son to start and on my husband's I did 2 strand twist. My locs didn't take long to log but I have think hair and have over 100 locs my son hair took a long time to log but I fixed both of our hair by only retwisting 2 or 3 times a year. My husband has a looser texture hair and his hair is locing so well and they are so thick so 2 strand twist is best. And I only palm roll to rewist with no clips

You now have a new subscriber. I have been growing my locs for about 3-4 years. I got locs for healthy natural hair. I was going to the shop but she was using lots of products and drying my hair out so I have for the last 2-3 years been twisting them myself. My hair texture is very straight. My neck line and front edges are really fine getting thicker in the middle. My locs are tearing up some have broken off and joined into others also I have lost a few. Watching your video is helping me tremendously. Thank you. I will continue to watch for additional information. Once again because I probably can't say it enough Thank you!

Love your video. I think the way that you start locs kind of depends on your natural texture too. I happen to have very tight coils in my hair and it is VERY difficult to comb when it is loose, say after a wash. I started locs twice in my lifetime using the comb coil method and it worked really well for me. I could see it not working out for a person with a looser curl texture. Based on what you said though, if I ever decide to start my locs again, I think I might try the two strand twist method and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestions!

Then I was one while looking at You Tube I can upon Yannie videos. That when I went out and brought some rose water and Dr Bonner peppermint soap and Jamaican castor oil. The other I wash my hair and sent it was lock. I twist my hair using the rose water and put the castor oil on my scalp. While went to sleep while wearing my night cap. And I love it and hair feel soft and nice.

I was going to use my silk elements shampoo and conditioner, but I saw your video and you said that all shampoo is not good for locs. Thank God I already have Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap, so I am going to wash my hair with that. I also was going to put gel on it to hold, but you recommended no product on your hair, so I will not, I will just oil my scalp and that is it. I have the 2 strand twists because that is easier for me. I just wish I had started this journey years ago, there is something that is so freeing going through this process. Plus it is something I can do myself and I can watch my hair as I go through this loc process. I have 2 nephews that have their hair locs in their hair. I don't know why, but it has boosted my confidence, I had my hair natural, but I had to put product on it to make soft like I wanted. It is also teaching me patience. I will continue to follow you. Thank you for your videos.

The Lord led me to loc my hair back in 2019.... and it has been journey... but He showed me the three strand... which is a two strand... but three.... where I grabbed two strands, then with in the two, I made a third, and twisted.... in the process it worked out to be like a braid, but I spritz... and found that spritzing my hair helped it loc... it was not a basic water spritz but a cleaning refreshing spritz...I did not have help, except my husband... I did not have any salons to go to, as most turned me away...... I researched and stressed, and found that simply trusting in what The Lord spoke to me was simply, twist and spritz..... and wash it periodically was what worked....I have long hair, beyond waste length

Hair dryers and blow dryers are the devil. My hair worst nightmare. Stay away people, stay far away. Let the sun dry your hair.

I've heard people say your locs will mold and or mildew if you air dry so that scared me away from that. Is that true? I'm new to the loc game.

I read that some people said sun drying creates mildew in locs. I find that to be false. In the summer, after retwisting I allow my hair, which is damp to air & skin dry. Never had mildew. My locs are fresh smelling.

Hi! I have followed your advice for starting my journey and I am 6 months strong. Per your videos and info on your website you suggest that we don’t use palm roll, twisting, interlock or other “techniques” that will damage our roots. My question is: What do you recommend we do as to maintain our new growth while we wait for our 1 year mark to book an appointment with you? Im. It asking for any tutorials, (i know you don’t do them 😊), but I don’t know what else to do to maintain the new growth. Please help! Peace, Prosperity, and Blessings!

My husband is Trini and our son wants locs. We tried with someone local and she comb coiled his hair and there was so much build up and she said if he wet his hair it could fall out. I immediately washed it and combed out what she did. I’m going to try to loc his hair with 2 stand twists. His curls will already lock on their own if not detangled daily. He has tight, low porosity, thick hair Thank you for your videos and teaching everyone how to have healthy, clean locs.

Love this video currently starting my 3rd loc journey…. I like the 2 strand method it makes sense but it takes more hair to do 2 strands compared to starting with comb coils especially being that I have very wavy hair
