Your channel is a small subscriber base but I have absolutely no doubts you'll get more. Your editing, writing, voice over, you're damn good and you'll only get better from here. It's awesome to see and it inspires me to hopefully do and learn how to make my own damn videos. I don't normally comment on videos but figured i had something to add so why not? First off, great review, i grew up on a steady diet of Sonic games (Both on Master System and Mega Drive) so it's always cool to see people's takes on these games. Second; you mentioned that you didn't know if it was possible to "beat" Robotnik in Labyrinth and the answer to that is "Yes but no" you CAN hit him enough times for him to explode but it really doesn't do anything but force him away from you, it doesn't cut short the climb to the top so while you can do it, it's irrelevant to do so. Besides more often than not even if i've managed to do so it's usually by the time i get to the top anyway so it's more cathartic than anything else. Anyway, great review and gonna move onto the other Sonic videos now, would love to see if you tackle the MS titles down the road!

Something tells me this Wallace guy really likes the color orange... Nicely put-together vid though, I like how you outlines Marble and Labyrinth with the term "exploitation." It can go both ways. Sonic can exploit shortcuts and skips while those levels can exploit Sonic's weaknesses.

though i didn't enjoy sonic 1 as much as 2 and 3 when playing them on mega collection plus as a kid but i still had fun with it back in the day and still like it when ever i decide to play it

I did not know about that platform in Labyrinth. Huh. Also, wow, that mobile port was displaying in ultra-wide! Never seen so much of the stage at the same time before during gameplay.

I like Sonic 1. Great soundtrack and no zone is bad…except Scrap Brain. Sonic 1 is what I would call a very good platformer…just not much of what we know as a Sonic platformer. Green Hill is great. Hidden objects, multiple pathways, speed, platforming, manipulation of said speed to reach specific areas. It has it all. Perfect first level in video games ever and there is ZERO debate. I won’t hear it lol. The boss is ok. It’s easy but not pathetic imo. Not like the drill car of Emerald Hill. Marble is a good zone. Just not very Sonic. There’s still secret areas and paths to get too but the issue is you are stuck for a good portion doing nothing but waiting. There are still moments in the zone where you can do things at your pace like the invincibility so you can get through this one part quicker. There’s the end of act 3 where you can platform as fast as you want. These moments are just few. Decent boss. Spring Yard is a speedy zone with some good platforming. But then there’s the slow moving blocks which are a drag. I theres one part where you can hop over the section but I think most of the time you have to sit through them. There is the end of one the acts where you can flip a switch that takes you to the end tho. The boss might be my favorite one in Sonic 1. Labyrinth is a good level. I said it. Not very Sonic, but it’s good. Sure it may not have speed, but it’s got challenging platforming and secrets, and hidden paths, shortcuts. I get through this zone without ever being hit. And I’m no pro at games. It’s not the best zone, far far far from it. Nowhere near the best water level even. But it’s a good and fairly challenging zone. Patience is speed. One can get through this pretty fast if they aren’t mindlessly blitzing. Starlight is a great zone. Brings back speed. Not as challenging as the last zone but it’s not a cakewalk either. It’s very short tho. Like really really short. Boss is cool. Second favorite. Scrap Brain is garbage. Right out the gate there’s a trap door with a bottomless pit…who did this? This is one zone I do struggle not getting hit in. It’s very annoying. And I know I just talked about how I like Labyrinth but act 3 of Scrap Brain I rolled my eyes. Did we need Labyrinth act 4? There is the shortcut that makes it over before it began but still. The final boss isn’t hard, just tedious. Death Egg is light years better. The one thing outside of Scrap Brain that I hate in Sonic 1 are the special stages. Worst classic special stage ever and it’s not even close. Sure, being able to restart in later ports makes it better, but the lack of control in these are painful to have to play. And all you get is a slightly different end for getting all the emeralds. Waste of time. Worse special stage. Overall Sonic 1 is a very good game. Just not the best Sonic game. It’s a good introduction tho. Gets you used to speed, platforming, water, secrets, all that good stuff. After Green Hill isn’t that bad. Definitely not nearly as bad as many claim. Only trash zone is Scrap Brain imo.

Sonic the hedgehog (1991) 5/10 not a perfect start to the franchise but a good enough first game

The original Genesis version is still the best imo. While it's nice to have the spin dash and all, I think it kinda breaks the game.
