So we have a family tradition of going around the table for Thanksgiving and saying what we're thankful for. It was cute when my son said he was thankful for KZfaq. We thought it was for watching his shows. But he continued -- so mom can start her day with "Hey guys! How's it going?" and smile with Laura from Garden Answer :-). There you have it Laura! You made it to Thanksgiving dinner tables lol

About 40 years ago, I found myself unemployed at Christmas time and was unable to afford a Christmas tree. I did have 3 hanging pots of Wandering Jew that trailed more than 6 feet and were lush and beautiful. I grouped the hangers in front of the picture window and decorated them with tinsel garland, lights and all of my ornaments. It was beautiful and magical. Thank you for triggering such a wonderful memory! I think I'll go and see if I can find a plant at the store, now... ❤

Yay, seed starting already! I can’t wait to see the updates. I love the vulnerability you share to do something new and different. We often times get in ruts to follow a guide book of what other gardeners have done. Be free to step outside the “rules” and try it. Worst case scenario, you learn something new. Best case, you’re enjoying fresh produce earlier. Thanks, Laura.

We get to "puts" around a little......but pray with me about my husband who just turned 80 on the 23rd and could not get up off of a bench seat after changing his shoes....his feet are not doing too good after standing on ladders last week cleaning out the gutters and putting gutter guards in them.....3/4 is done and I know he will want to get it done the rest of the way.....we both have bad backs so I can't help him up too much.....he refused me wanting to get a walker and a motorized seat on wheels so he can still travel indoors and out....your program gave me hope this afternoon, once again in our GOD, WHO made us as well as the plants and seeds, and dirt and has designed each for HIS purposes. My husband is a great prayer warrior...( 2hrs. per day.... everyday for others...then......himself). Tell your family hello from California and I pray your mom's back gets increasingly stronger. Thank you dear ones.

Love your videos and I have learned so much from you, I thought I would take the opportunity to share some information with you as well. Someone was kind enough to once do the same for me. Below is a brief snippet of info regarding the history of Tradescantia's common name. While I know us gardeners love tradition, common names historically change all the time! I hope this is helpful and thanks again for all that you share with us. While some people interpret the name “Wandering Jew” as a harmless reference to the Jewish people wandering in the desert, the historical use of the term hasn’t been inoffensive or harmless. The origin of the name “Wandering Jew” comes from a medieval European folk story about a mythical Jew who mocked Jesus and was condemned to wander the earth until the apocalypse. In the 20th century, the term resurfaced in Nazi propaganda in Germany. In German, the medieval concept of the “Wandering Jew” translated to Der ewige Jude (the Eternal Jew). The Nazi party presented an art show titled Der ewige Jude which portrayed Jews in an extremely negative and stereotypical manner meant to dehumanize them and equate them with the cursed “Wandering Jew” from medieval folklore. Later, in 1940, the Nazis released a propaganda film also titled Der ewige Jude which portrayed Jews as parasitic and dangerous and justified their extermination. The medieval theme of the “Wandering Jew” was used as a backdrop for the film and as one of many justifications for the extermination of the Jewish people.

Oh my days, I forgot about my Amaryllis that I stored in an attempt to try and get it regrow after last year ( usually I just buy new ones every year) I went into the cupboard to get the Yule decorations out and saw it sat there and it all came flooding back. Obviously no signs of life.... so I took it out and it didn't feel too good.... and feeling bummed that I had forgotten I popped it on kitchen table with a mind to eventually compost it. Life happened and it sat there for a few days, and then BAM!!! I noticed a green leaf tip popping through.. ITS ALIVE!!!!! can't believe it i honestly thought it was super dead. So I was just about to Google how to repot when you posted this video, so it was fate!! You must have been psychic! Fingers crossed it blooms ok I think I owe it a chance to grow. Thankyou for all your knowledge. With love from the Highlands.

Speaking from someone who has tried to push the season with hot weather produce, it will be day length that will be the issue. salad greens would do better. But in general, for winter production even for salad greens, you want to start them in late summer (July/August) so that by the time day length is too short for much growth, they are full size and can just be harvested all winter. When day length drops to 10 hours or less, growth slows to almost nothing.

@@jgwood10 I believe Kathleen is referring to the light available to Laura's plants once they leave the studio and go to the greenhouse. Laura says this is an experiment to see how things grow in the greenhouse. I don't think she said anything about using grow lights there, although she said she will put her trays of seeds under grow lights now, even though nothing has sprouted yet. Laura said she would put the plants in the greenhouse in a month or two when they start heating it. By then the December solstice will have happened and Laura's daylight hours will be increasing. Living in a colder climate, I have found heat is very important for plants to grow and produce. Laura's plants will have heat 24/7. As always, it will be fun to see how Laura's experiment works for her!

TRAYS: I’ve suggested repeatedly that you can find TONS of serving platters at Home Goods and TJMaxx - and they make PERFECT TRAYS FOR POTS. I’ll bet you could find an oval one exactly right for that amaryllis pot, too. You can easily prime and paint the ceramic to match, even use a concrete slurry or grout to add texture first. Maybe an idea for a DIY video this winter?

It looks like your hot pepper seeds came from Hudson Valley Seed Company. I love their packaging - love how they support local artists! I've used their seeds for years.

Good morning, GA friends! Benjamin is a natural gardener and is already so comfortable around a camera that I look for him to have his own YT channel by the time he enters third grade, if not before. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! ~ Lisa

@@youareamazing8004 It doesn't sound like English is your first language, but I think you're asking me what I meant by my comment, which was nothing more than noting how proficient Benjamin is at such a young age and that it would not surprise me if he decided to launch a channel at some point - with his parents' permission, obviously, and when he was an appropriate age, obviously - just to have a little fun. I certainly never suspected anyone could possibly interpret such an off-hand, obviously hyperbolic comment as suggesting a child be exploited under "pressure." It was obvious, obviously.

I'm LITERALLY starting seeds as well AND I was debating whether to start my basil. Yes. Yes I will. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for not making me feel like a crazy plants starting lady.

Can’t wait to see what you think of the Lemon Drop peppers. We are trying those for the first time to use in fruit salsas.
