On Naboo, Padmé's funeral takes place in a solemn ceremony in Theed. Her hands clasp the japor snippet given to her by Anakin following his departure from Tatooine some thirteen years ago. To protect her children, her body appears to still be pregnant.
In a deleted scene, Yoda heads to Dagobah to begin his self-imposed exile, which he partly owes as penance for his failure to defeat Sidious.
On the bridge of a gray-hulled Venator-class Star Destroyer, Vader, the Emperor, and Governor Wilhuff Tarkin oversee the construction of a moon-sized battle station.
On Alderaan, the infant Leia is brought by Bail Organa to his wife, Queen Breha.
On Tatooine, Obi-Wan brings Luke to his new family: his uncle, Owen, and his aunt, Beru. Obi-Wan leaves on an eopie, heading to his exile in the Jundland Wastes. Owen and Beru, holding the infant Luke, look out to the horizon and watch the setting of Tatooine's twin suns.

George Lucas said to always make Star Wars hopeful, and that's what we see here. The Jedi Order is decimated, the Republic has been consumed by the Empire, and the Chosen One has fallen to evil. But, despite how bad things are, there are two babies, a sister and brother, one taken in to royalty, the other adopted by simple farmers. They don't know it yet, but we do. We know that one day, those twins will grow up and they will save the galaxy.

I gotta hand it to John Williams here because the score is just genius. It's like the music is telling a story on its own. The music playing during Padme’s funeral is mournful and soft, almost reminiscent of Chopin's Funeral March. As the ending unfolds, we are taken to an Empire ship, upon which Darth Vader and the Emperor are watching the construction of the Death Star. The funeral theme is still playing, but it has become much louder and more intense. The music makes us realize that this isn’t just a funeral for Padme, but for Anakin too. At the end of this scene, however, we have a zoom in to Vader, and slowly, you can hear the Imperial March rise and dominate the original melody. This is genius because what’s happening musically is also happening in the movie; the Empire rises to dominate and consume Anakin, who becomes devoid of his emotions and compassion for Padme. The mechanical, marching progression of the Imperial leitmotif mirrors Darth Vader, and his cold mechanical cruelty.

the way the funeral theme blends into the imperial march is so perfect, because it shows us this is not only padmé's funeral, but anakin's too. anakin was consumed and died with vader's rise. anakin rested with padmé in that necklace, and then of course from the imperial march, we see luke and leia delivered to the beginning of their journeys, to the force theme, the twin suns, the new hopes.

I always believed they never should have made the sequel Trilogy and if they did use The original universe Lucas Books created. But between the time lapse and carrie fishers death didnt make it as good. It had potential but if Lucas stayed on as an advisor or had one director the whole Trilogy it had potential. But since they didnt i refuse to acknowledge it and believe Star Wars Saga ended on Endor in Return of the Jedi lol

Lucas truly did the prequels well in the sense that they can work as a work of silent film…just listen to the music and watch the screen and you can really understand what’s happening. Sure you don’t get the details but you can tell when a scene is important just by the music, even in the political scenes. And this is probably the best example of this (even if no dialogue was spoken here). Lucas truly is one of the greatest creative minds of modern cinema.

Anakin’s decision had so much of an impact on everything and little did he know it would be the reason he lost Padme. Also that scene of Vader walking up and standing next to Sidious was so dark. The music gave you a feeling that Palpatine succeeded in his plan and that something just shifted the balance and it was so sinister.

One of the small things during this sequence that emotionally gets me every time is seeing Jar Jar at Padme's funeral. I know it sounds silly, but regardless of what people think of Jar Jar, he is a very loud, silly, and often times obnoxious character, and this being the constant depiction of his character highlights how *optimistic* and *carefree* of a person he is. This and Qui-Gon's funeral are the only times in the saga (Clone Wars included) where we see him outside of that, mourning the loss of a dear friend. No sudden commentary, no jokes or silly antics, just pure grief and sadness. The impact of Anakin's tragedy echoes so hard to the point where one of Star Wars' most optimistic characters reaches such a low point shows how dark of a period this is. And, man, I'm definitely not a big Jar Jar fan, but seeing that shot of him, an innocent soul in the Star Wars universe, broken (even if just for a moment) by the preceding events of the movie... it just hurts.

0:54 - 1:22 This scene I remember the most from when I saw RoTS for the first time in 2005 on DVD. Was 7 years old. I grew up watching original trilogy dozens of times with my father. Loved it so much. Even as a kid I never really liked Episodes 1 and 2 (especially 2). But RoTS blew my mind back then. It was so dark and depressing, very... adult? In my mind I literally begged Anakin to make the right choice, still do. And that exact scene when we see such young but now heavily deformed Anakin in his legendary life support suit made me feel hopeless and sad. Menacing Darth Vader, standing next to his master who is the reason why he lost everything. Don't think Disney's «SW» movies can impact someone like that!

1:03 I love everything about this scene. The interior of the Star Destroyer, Palpatine looking at the half-completed Death Star, Vader walking up to join him, even the music is good. Vader is always and will remain my favorite villain

I seriously cannot get over the sadness of ROTS. I realize the redemption for Anakin in ROTJ as well as Obi wan, but the fact that Padmé never got to see her husband turn back to the light and died believing that there was still good in him is heartbreaking. They were this inseparable, young couple who were about to become new parents, but freaking Palpatine😡 destroys everything. Some scenes that had me in tears( and still make me cry when I think about them): 1 when Anakin has his dream[very eerie and emotional], 2 when Padmé pleads with Anakin and he force chokes her😭, 3 when Obi Wan cries his heart out to Anakin on Mustafar ("you were my brother, Anakin!!!"), 4 when Padmé gives birth ( her labor pains are palpable) and then dies next to the magnanimous obi wan, and 5 this whole video sequence. The part that made(makes) me absolutely sob is seeing that Japor snippet necklace held gently by Padmé. She loved him through and through. I think people miss out on the extreme poignancy of this moment if they don't watch Episode 1. Watch all of them! Anyway, doesnt anyone else feel this strongly about ROTS/the prequels? Long live the PT!!!!!!

Also, even though SW purists/experts may deny the validity of this claim, I personally think that there is a SW afterlife and that Anakin, Padmé, Luke, Leia, Obi Wan, etc. are all happily reunited and living their best lives. Honestly, I'm glad they added Hayden Christensen as a force ghost in ROTJ because it lent credence to this theory. To me, the prequals just hit different than the originals; They will always be at the top of my list. Thanks George❤️

I know ROTS gets a lot of hate, but I always tell people it is one of the best back stories for why the hero became a villain and how quick it is to justify what you do to become a villain, I think of it as a great cautionary tale. That and the tv show Once Upon A Time also has great back stories for the villains.

Honestly a terrific ending. Sombre and dark, as is fitting with the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the Rise of the Empire. Yet a slight glimmer of hope for the future. Truly a great ending for the six movies. I wonder, if they had made Sequels, how they would have turned out... oh well.
