Very well said, Michael. I see many (if not all) modern day problems having to do with a loss of connection. Native Americans have been telling us this for over 200 years, and we've been so distracted by our illusions of so-called "progress" that we aren't paying attention... Think about it, anything we value really has value if we have a connection to it. This can include people, relationships, inanimate objects, careers, music, fashions, religions... anything. If we value it, we have a connection to it at some level. It is a loss of this connection to things like where our food comes from, where our garbage goes, where our water and power come from, child slavery and the huge carbon footprint of global markets and shipping, etc., that are responsible for how we've gotten to where we are (in trouble). To me, Earthships are one way to reconnect... to our shelter, to our food, to our water, to where our waste goes, to Mother Earth. Thank you so much for all you've been through with the government of New Mexico, all you've suffered to perpetuate the Earthship. I offer gratitude, and it is my dream to one day attend the Earthship academy, to learn how to build these wonderful, common-sense homes. Thank you so much for all you do. Peace to you from Alaska, ~Tim

The "crisis" seems less crisis-ey when in an Earthship! Btw, one fundamental I added to the list is security. Not just from natural elements, but from potentially adverse people as well. High ground, sight lines, etc

I love everything about the earth ship, along with permaculture. I can dream of community built out of these and designed to include for productivity and third spaces. But most of the people are in urban spaces- which do have value. Density is an important feature of urban design. My question is, Is it infeasible for earth ships to be suitably designed as the primary building type for an urban plan?

Capsaicin has been shown to shrink prostate cancer. We all need water, food, shelter, first aid/medications, means of defense, and a plan. Utilities bills seem to always go up and the value of the currency buys less. Earth ships to me sound like a great retirement plan. To live as cheap as possible. To help get rid of as many bills as possible.

With my tiny bit of supposed infamy and slightly above average intelligence, Ive tried to tell most folks I run into about earthships, but most cant even be bothered to take 2 minutes out of their day to look them up on a quick Google search for their own benefit- its really sad. Maybe Im just a poor salesman. Im totally sold that you're onto a massively important way to reshape practical and sustainable living particularly in the SW and its a crying shame that most people are voluntarily oblivious.

I love the idea of the Refuge becoming the "house for the people". The timing for this is perfect... My family and I are moving from Alaska to New Mexico this summer, and I would love to have one of these... how do I "get on the list" for one of the first ones?? My sons and I can help build, I can finance the project, and I'll likely provide the land to build on... I'd love to hear from you!

yeah it was pretty hilarious that the first three foods he named are actually arguable, at the least. some studies show garlic effects all humans negatively, some more some less, some negligible. Garlic was used first medically so i have a feeling the side effects are okay/justified when it is needed for healing and there is nothing better to use. Nowadays its probably not needed much at all because we have access to almost anything on earth and quickly, for the most part. most people using garlic nowadays use it for a combination of tradition and tasste in cooking as well as because they don't know any better and learned that has great healing qualities. I remember that this was the turning point for me in many areas, not just food. so it was ironic that he mentioned garlic of all foods. It showed me how little most people really know about so many things and that we place so much weight on the status quo. We depend on it, and it was around this time i finally realized how connected we truly are and how deep the web goes. There is absolutely nothing in this world that one person can say they know for sure, and without others, we could never survive (nor exist) nor come to know anything more. It's part of the paradox that we need the status quo and yet need to rebel and ultimately destroy it to live our destiny.

3:05 $100 billion would feed 1 billion people for a week at best. Now some of those 1 billion people might be able to stretch $100 for longer than a week, but most of them are gonna eat that up in just a couple of meals. If you try to save everyone nobody benefits. $100 billion could possibly buy permanent self-sufficiency for 1 million people who are willing to work hard for their entire lives and are willing to force their children to live that same life

Hey Michael. You are seriously wrong about the unarguable nature of the benefit of any root, leave, stem, or seed of a plant being healthy or required for health in any way. What is unarguable is that we need animal products, meat, eggs and dairy. There is a long list of nutrients that are required for living that are not found in any plant what so ever and that can only be obtained through animal products. Eating garlic for example triggers my back pain in a bad way, as well as eating any vegetable for that matter. Vegetables all have defensive chemicals to prevent insects and other animals from eating them and when we eat them cause a host a symptoms, in my case inflammation that results in chronic back pain. Chronic back pain I lived with for over a decade without realizing the cause, and which was cured by eating an animal based diet with no vegetables whatsoever, fruit however does not seem to cause any issues. On the topic of your cancer. Cancer must live off sugar. Cancer is when you mitochondria stops working and the cell must ferment sugar to produce energy. One of the primary solution is to go on a ketogenic diet. In a ketogenic diet you will starve the cancer of its only food source, sugar, and greatly increase your chances of recovery.
