This resource shows how one can form a state space model from a transfer function. The process is analogous to that used for ODEs but with the extra subtlety of allowing more complex numerators than a constant. The resource gives the controllable canonical form only as this can be constructed by inspection from the transfer function parameters.
Lectures aimed at engineering undergraduates. Presentation focuses on understanding key prinicples, processes and problem solving rather than mathematical rigour.

If the denominator has complex roots ,how we can do? And deos exist an auther methods to represent model canonical form ?

Thanks for this tutorial. Just to clarify, @12:55, why is the B matrix 3x1 instead of 4x1?

Wow, this is very powerful. I work with 2 inputs and one output; sometimes 2 inputs and 3 outputs. I stay lost SS model. Optimization of the states is necessary as well. Do you have any examples of two inputs and one output?

12:10 isn't Matrix B supposed to be 4x1 matrix, B=[0001]' in stead of 3x1 B=[001]' ?

Your solution was confusing at first because some sources lists the system backwards as a_1(also, zero not used) being associated the highest derivative and a_n is the lowest. I prefer your notation, but we have it backwards :(

@5:00 shouldn't the final entry in the B matrix be a 1, why is it 4? and the C matrix should be [0 0 4] not [0 0 1]?

as i know , you can't. transfer functions only works when there is single input and single output. (SISO) Otherwise , we have to use state space models. (I'm not sure though:D)
