The Boulia Shire is no stranger to unexplained lights. Ever since anyone can remember, inexplicable lights have been experienced by a great variety of people. Kalinda, Maureen and Ric share their stories and theories about the mysterious Min Min light. This is a Storylines Q150 digital story. This digital story was made by the State Library of Queensland with funding from the Queensland Government. It is a legacy of the Q150 celebrations in 2009.

Was a kid living in Australia and I saw a bright blue orb like light slowly move past my bedroom window. Was living in Carindale, Queensland at the time

Me and my dad were out hunting in southern Australia then after a while we saw a green light it flew REALLY fast towards us then stoped above us then flew off really fast.

I was driving a vehicle from proserpine qld towards Bloomsbury qld many years ago at about 9pm I was passing by gorganga plains( with no other cars anywhere in sight) when suddenly out of the left hand side window an extremely bright light was shining at my car. I immediately knew that this wasn't normal as there was no trainline there ,all the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up , I accelerated to roughly about 170klm per hour trying to get out of there it seemed to turn alongside my car for a few seconds then vanished much to my relief but I will always remember the experience.

My 2 brothers and I got chased by the min min light 18yrs ago. One of the weirdest things that I have seen in my entire life.

I'm interested in your story as you were with your brothers and I was with my sister so it does appear to me the theory of it only chooses 1 person is b.s..... I had a bad broken leg at the time the light came to us I couldn't get away so my sister tried to shoo it away.. It still came to my leg hovering close to my hip I didn't feel scared At all I felt like it was helping me then it softly touched my hip and then I tried to touch it carefully it backed away and went down the hillslope slowly though it left not f a st to this day I believe it helped my leg heal

Many years ago my college roommate and I were sitting on front steps of our apt watching sunset. Across the street was a corn field. When we noticed a red glowing ball floating over the corn field. It went to both end of field and hovered while it seemed to be dropping a lava like substance. It was like a big flare, but it had intelligent actions. After going to both ends of field it went to the middle of the field and elevated a little and then zip it took off into the sky. This was before computers or cell phones and didn't have a camera with us. Didnt know who to tell. Strangest thing I have ever seen.

You are not crazy I saw one on Wednesday same description! I didn't get to my camera fast enough but it looked like a bubble surrounded by a fiery mist.

Got chased by a weird, pale green light as a young lad when I was living in Texas, USA. Happened at night near an abandoned property near a marsh. Fastest I've ever pedalled a bike. Never seen anything quite like it before, or ever since.

I live in the UK and in 1994 I was driving back home in the countryside at about 11pm with my dog in the back of the car, and I saw exactly the same sort of thing that's being described. I kept hoping to see another car or someone afoot in a village to ask if they had seen it too, but there was no-one. I had to drive across a stretch of open country and the lights chased the car, banking down across the hedges. I've never had any similar experiences before or since, but that was real alright. I didn't tell anyone for years, because I thought they'd just say I'd made it up because I wanted to see a UFO. Before that experience I can't say I ever gave UFO's a thought. But I'm a believer now!

I've seen one floating above an estuary in coastal Mid North NSW. They're not just in the outback.

In 2000 I was a passenger in a car driving across the Nullarbor & saw these lights. We were driving from melb to WA, i was a backpacker and had picked up a ride from a cop who was going to perth for a holiday. I cant remeber exactly where we were on the crossing but it was maybe the 3rd night & he was keen to get to perth so wanted to drive through the night. We were close to a roadhouse, so that must narrow it down a bit. It had got dark and as we drove there was a really bright white light ahead. It looked as if it was the spotlight of a truck driving towards us, except it was moving away from us and it was going incredibly fast. The guy who was driving sped up to try and catch up to it and ended up doing over 150kmph. We'd seem to get a bit closer to it and then it would effortlessly zoom off again and the light would be so far away it would be tiny within seconds. Then it would seem to slow down and we'd gain on it, doing 150kmph+ & the light would get bigger as if we were catching it up and then zoom, off it would go again. There was no way it could have been another vehicle, it was just way too fast. It was like it was playing with us, it'd let us get closer and then zoom off again. It went on for about 30 minutes or so and we were so weirded out by it. We stopped at the roadhouse that we came to and the woman there mentioned the Minmin lights and said don't follow them or we'd die! We were a bit wary to carry on but we didn't see them again.

I swear that I had seen something totally unexplained out to the west - about 105km west from Lake Nash Station - about this time last year. It had the hairs on my neck standing up

I saw one in Mt Garnet, Queensland. Mt Garnet is 100kms from Undarra Lava Tubes up there in the Gulf Country. It was a pitch black night and I went for a walk up Coolgarra Road at about 1am in the morning. I would have been about 3kms past the last house when I saw it. I had turned around to walk back towards town when something caught my left eye in the bush. It was a white ball of light which appeared to be less than 1m across and kind of hiding in the bush. At a guess, it was about 50-75m away and wasn't moving. The hairs stood up on the back of my neck (as others have commented!!) and it scared the crap out of me as I didn't have a clue what it was! I started running away from it as fast as I could, it didn't follow me. The next morning I spoke to a local who informed me it was Min Min country, but he'd never seen one. Had I known that, I might have tried to have a closer look, but being by myself in the dark out in the scrub I was truly scared witless at the time.

As a young kid, I've seen it a few times in Mt Garnet. In the back seat of my parents car, I saw the light following us as we drove out at night. And it wasn't a light from the car because the speed of it would change, sometimes it sped up & got closer. It followed us a long way before it would stay. And this is outback so we would've been driving 80-100km! And like I said, sometimes it sped up, so sometimes it would've been going more than 100k easy

Then as an adult. I was in Mt Garnet, crossing the road, walking towards the pub. At that moment, I saw a bright green lime light about the size of the moon, fall from the sky & it landed on empty land next to the pub. I got there as quick as I could & nobody was there. So I told a local, they told me his name but this was years ago so I forgot but it was a spirit man.

@@minksylife7378 I've seen similar to this and it was a meteor. Funny thing was there was 2 of them, they didn't land, they went horizon to horizon on exactly the same path. I saw it in Gladstone and it was also seen in Rockhampton. There's a lot of minerals in the ground up in those areas and maybe related to that? Who knows.

@@minksylife7378 you got to see it twice in your life that’s wonderful! I just don’t know what they want are what they are up too. The orb I saw gave off an ambient orange like fiery mist however I saw it close and inside the mist or light surrounding it is actually a translucent metallic like orb about the size of a VW beetle. It’s some sort of flying craft of a very high technology! We don’t have that tech here! I’ve been in any plaines and helicopters in te marines nothing looks even close to that. The technology is so advanced it’s hard to describe, but it is technology non the less. No rivets, or screws, just a solid highly polished looking metallic orb.

These aren't just inland, or in the bush. Only times I've seen them was in another suburb of Brisbane and in Gympie. In Brisbane they used to fly around in my house, usually atleast twice a month..and had all 5 reported colours. Wish ppl would stop worrying about ppls calling them crazy and share the stories, caus surely I'm not only person who's had them indoors or in a coastal city? That first house in Brisbane after months of me seeing them...had never told my ex...the unexplained scares her... one night my ex finally seen one herself and nearly leapt our if her skin as it flew past her and went through the CLOSED front door only metres from her while we watched TV.. At first I played dumb for we had an agreement I keep my "ghost stories" to myself.. This made her worse, she started freaking out convinced she was crazy until I admitted I see them ever since we had moved in...3 or 4 months earlier.. They mostly it came out while she was in bed and I was a night owl. On average most are basketball size , or smaller. But have seen them a little bit larger too.. the largest ones in my experience have always been orange. They are without a doubt something intelligent. Even playful. All my experiences were between 2004 and 2006

@lozoft9 I spoke with someone who did... & when the light moved toward his vehicle & came even closer, fear got the better of him & he turned around again & got away as quickly as he could. He described it as a floating bonfire. It was quite large & in the early hours of the morning. He had his encounter around the Goorianawa area... near the Warrumbungle Mountains of North-West NSW.

I was recently out camping next to a dry riverbed in the bungle bungles outback Australia. I woke up in the middle of the and sat up in the tent and within a minute saw a large white light meandering along the riverbed it lit up the ground underneath it and made no sound at all . I wasn’t scared just in awe of what I had just witnessed past by and kept going along the riverbed I noticed what looked like shimmering stuff dropping off the back of it

I have seen the min min lights and the DEVIL/Demon that comes from them....whatever you do don't follow these lights..that's all of my story I can tell, now!!!! It haunts me

I saw a bright light like a helicopter flying infront of us in Yarramulla ranger station near Undera Lava Tube Mt Surprise Qld it was so scary to be honest i never experienced this before in my life

Love hearing everyone's encounters of this phenomena. Have anyone looked into whether they could be Yowie's or related to? I only say this due to the hundreds of Sasquatch encounters in the US / Canada that are associated with orbs. xoxo ☀☀☀

My mother and her cousin Mel went to hunt gemstones out near toogoolawah and they saw aa light out near the horizon just hovering above near a tree and then just disappeared

Yes I was actually touched by it I could see into it my name is Sonia Wehlisch we lived on our property in Red hill Mt Morgan Qld it really touched me it's an entity definitely if needing to contact me please inbox or txt I'm hoping to understand some reason at all as to why it chose my sister and I to come to it actually touched me It has a Power Nd Intelligence I am in Victoria now hoping to hear from any one associated with the unexplained or Mystery seekers my story is very very true

@@josey6231 hello geewizz the Aboriginals are right I did die later on in my early 40.s however with or thanks to a truly wonderful Emergency medical team or Thanks be to God I'm still here I am not lying to you my sister Anita and I were both there not just me Anita tried to shoo it away but it came straight up to me.. I'm serious about this I couldfeel it And I could see into it I did not feel threatened .but my sister did.... it circled us then it went up above us both then down to our ankles it was hovering around a little bit I felt like it was looking at us from all angles then it came to our face level we both could see into it I have to let you know I didn't feel frightened or threatened at all by it I had a bad broken leg at the time I think it could tell you see with such a large heavy plaster I couldn't run even if I tried and then it slowly at first backed away back down the sloping sides of our property it just floated away I did some research on these odd orbs and apparently there's a relevance to an old Irish man paddy who frequents the sights of olden day pubs and our house in my morgan is right on the spot where the old Shamrock Hotel for the miners in the day Now Anita and I were both there on the original concrete slab of the old hotel when the Min Min came I was about 9 or 10years old and Anita was 8 or 9 were only 1 year apart so in ending my sister now lives in Gailes qld I'm in Victoria but one day soon were going back to try and solve our mystery ok please contact me anytime ok peggysonia25@gmail.com thanks

@@josey6231 also the Italians believe it's the garlic and onion witch The Morgana apparently her children all died so she wanders looking to claim other children or something like that she leaves brown paper bags of Garlic and Onions whether it's true or not who knows

As a young girl about 5 sitting in the back driver side seat - my father driving towards Ivanhoe NSW, very late at night... The Min Min Light came towards me and sat at the window and followed us for several k's . It almost seems like it was alive. I feel I felt a presence of some sort . V. Douglas.
