Station Eleven Ending: Mackenzie Davis Reveals Original Version of THAT Scene

It finally happened. After about two decades apart, Kirsten (Matilda Lawler and Mackenzie Davis) and Jeevan (Himesh Patel) finally reunite in the Station Eleven finale.
At the end of Episode 9, “Dr. Chaudhary,” we come to learn that Jeevan returned to the cabin one last time to confirm Kirsten wasn’t there. After that, he moves on and in year 20, he lives by a lake with Lara (Tattiawna Jones) and their children. Taking a cue from his experience with Terry/Deborah (Tara Nicodemo) at the birthing center, Jeevan now works as a doctor and at the end of Episode 10, he’s off to make a house call. That house call is for the Museum of Civilization - where Kirsten is.
I don’t know about you, but the second Jeevan walked into that airport, I couldn’t help but wonder when it was going to happen. Yes, it was most important for Jeevan to tend to Clark (David Wilmot) and Sarah (Lori Petty), but once that’s done, it felt as though it could happen at any moment. Randomly passing one another in the building was an option, but it seemed as though the performance would have been a prime spot for the first stage of their reunion. Perhaps Kirsten catches a glimpse of Jeevan in the crowd. But that sequence was rightly focused on other characters.
But then the moment comes with about 10 minutes left in the series. During a post-play reception, Kirsten and Jeevan finally spot each other. The reunion is an achingly beautiful two-minute scene with zero dialogue that ends in one of the most cathartic on-screen embraces I’ve ever seen.
We were lucky enough to have Mackenzie Davis on an episode of Collider Ladies Night back in December for Station Eleven’s premiere, but we saved a little bit of that conversation to share with you for the finale - and it focused on that reunion.

I thought the Kirsten and Jeevan reunion was perfect and possibly ONE of my favourite moment from the show, Mackenzie is incredible in Station Eleven and I hope she feels proud of herself for what she's achieved playing this part as much as all her fans are proud of her too.

I cried like a baby during their reunion. But I feel like we deserved MORE conversation between them about what happened after that fateful day outside the cabin.

Very much agree. I was really missing that for full closure; I wanted to see Jeevan explaining to Kirsten what really happened, and a bit more emotional catharsis and a healing/redemptive moment for him after not knowing for two decades whether this girl had survived or not and knowing her leaving was partially his fault.

I think all of that is implied. It's not a conversation that needs to happen on screen because we have been given enough background and recently enough that we're able to fill in the gaps. It's just assumed that they had this conversation off camera. Given limited space within the confines of a 60 minute episode, 10 episode, series I feel like you have to optimize how you do things. But also that's a rather tedious conversation. If something is safely assumed, then it becomes redundant to belabor it by describing every detail that we already understand.

How brilliant! Kirsten gives up Station Eleven (because she no longer needs it to heal)-and immediately after that, she and Jeevan find each other. I loved this show through and through. Such depth and beauty.

I just finished the final episode! Amazing ending. It was a great perfect ending. Beautiful performance from ALL. Now I’m sad that the series is over. And... AMAZING PERFORMANCE Mackenzie Davis.

I mentioned this in another comment on this comments section but I wish they somehow worked young Kirstin into the episode; especially given all of the other surrealist aspects of the show. The relationship between those two was my favorite part, and I believe the best part, of the show. I also wish they had Jeevan and Kirstin spend more time together on screen! We had them together for literally two or three minutes in the last 5 or so of the episode! That said, I loved the first 9 episodes, and parts of the finale. Episode 7 is one of my favorite episodes of all time from any show.

Mackenzie davis has become my fav actress!! In every movie i have seen her she has proved to be an excellent actress!! I just love her!

I finished the show last week and the scene where Kirsten and Jeevan reunite was the only scene I cried! I was so anxious for them to finally see each other!

Amazing interview, I loved the way you crafted it to go through her whole career but it didn't feel repetitive, and Mackenzie is always a joy to listen to, she's so eloquent and thoughtful, she's one of my favorite actresses so I always enjoy seeing her talk about her work, thank you for all the great questions.

She doesn't really have a 'good answer' for this question and I think I know why: it was such a soundless reunion, as though words were not necessary. Personally, I was hoping for something more wordy and dramatic BUT the Jeevan character and the Kirsten character were both rather short on words, so the way they did it was perhaps the most appropriate.

So.... how did Kirsten get her book back in episode 9? Jeevan got it and did he bring it with him as he dragged himself back to the cabin? Did he leave it when he got kidnapped? Did I miss something? This has been driving me mad!

It was felt out on the roadway (assumingly near where he was injured). In some ep, I can’t remember which, we saw Young Kirsten looking for him, calling out for him and finding the book in the snow. I hope that helps.

I thought the finale was a big missed opportunity and left me a bit disappointed. I LOVED the first nine episodes and couldn't wait for Jeevan and Kirstin to reconnect. And then we get like 2 minutes and the very end and very little dialogue? Also, with all of the surreal aspects there could have been a bit more done with their relationship this final episode, especially considering the nature of episode 7, one of my favorite episodes of all time from any show. And with how well they've done those things I wish young Kirstin would've somehow played a part or would've made an appearance. Remember, I'm talking about the surrealist aspects. I also think it would've helped anchor the moment a bit more to their past relationship since this whole series Jeevan has always been with young Kirstin. That was my favorite part of the show; both of those performances (and Frank) were so well done and resonated the most. Anyway, I'll stop babbling, I just wish young Kirstin was somehow worked in.

Totally agree. Was hoping for an emotional scene involving frank and young Kirsten. Still loved it. Episode 7 deserves every award that exists. I’ve rewatched the last 15 mins 10+ times.

I strongly agree. Was still beautiful but it's a shame. They needed to give Jeevan a bit more dialogue, a confession to Kirsten of what happened etc. Also agree it would have been right to incoporate the young Kirsten somehow too.

For me something it's lost there. I mean, they go every year to Santa Deborah, where they know Jeevan pretty well. They call him Dr. " His Last name", how come she had never heard about him on those 20 years?. That kind of ruined it for me a bit
