In this video I show you how to propagate Staurogyne Repens emersed. This technique is incredibly easy. Anyone can do it. In fact, this method works very well for most aquarium plants. Emersed propagation gives you more plants, faster, meaning you can create a lush aquarium carpet relatively quickly (for cheap). All you need are a few items and some starter plants.
I sell the plants that I grow. Consider supporting the channel by purchasing some plants from my website! nwaquahobby.com

Nice video. I paused halfway through. Put potting soil in an unused 10gal with an led on a timer for a tissue culture I found today. Awesome idea. I've never grown emersed befor. I have two 20 gal planted tanks I'm going to tear down and put everything into a 55. Really excited to see how these goes

My advantage living in a tropical country, I just place them in a pot, 1 inch of soil and 1.5 inch of gravel or pumice or lava rocks, submerge the pot with the plant underwater in a tub, placed outdoor facing the morning sun, and let the plant emerse itself, the emersed form can be then cut and replant at the same pot or to a new pot, still the pot submerged underwater. To prevent algae, I float water lettuce to the spaces of the tub.

Very interesting! Isn't it a bit of a waste of energy having non-transparent covers for the plants? Can't wait for replicating it. Greetings from Germany.

To a small degree yes, would be best to have perfectly clear lids. These are pretty clear though and I’ve never had an issue growing plants in them 😁

Just subscribed. Excellent description. I bought some S repens about 4 weeks ago. I suspect they were grown emersed. They seemed to do well for about a week to 10 days and definitely grew a few millimeters. Then over the next few days they started to lose the nice healthy appearance. After a few more days one or two of the plants started to show signs of melting. Now all 7 of them are melting. I intend to just let things run the course and see what happens…or would you suggest I do anything different?
@AquariumPlantLab
@AquariumPlantLab 2 жыл бұрын
I suspect the older leaves are the ones melting. Do you have fresh healthy new growth coming in or are they just melting with no new growth now? If new growth in coming in then they should be fine with time, if not then you likely have a deficiency of some sort. 🌱

@@AquariumPlantLab - there was new growth initially but no longer. I used API root tabs when I planted them and fertilize weekly with API Leaf Zone.

Hello, these advice are really nice, but i am strugling with changing the enviroment. usually from emerge stage -> to subbmerge stage is easy (just a little bit of mold but nothing serius). my problem is goiing from subbmerge to emerge. i still struggling with dry plants that eventualy dies. any advice please :) i am also spreing them every sing day and temperature is around 24-27°. thank you in advance
@AquariumPlantLab
@AquariumPlantLab Жыл бұрын
Every plant has slightly different needs. 24-27 is on the hot side and will be much more likely to develop mold, 20-24c would likely yield better results. If you can’t get there I would try adding some ventilation to the setup. Also the more saturated the soil the more issues you’ll have. You want it nice and moist but standing water in soil can be problematic. So try lowering temps if you can, add some vent holes, and experiment with a bit less water. Good luck!

how should i combat mold growth on the soil?
@AquariumPlantLab
@AquariumPlantLab 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Don’t let the soil get totally saturated and if possible add some springtails. Those two things are almost a guarantee against mold 👍

do you heat the room so the tubs stay relatively warm/tropical ish temperate.. ?
@AquariumPlantLab
@AquariumPlantLab 2 жыл бұрын
The room is “room temperature” so ~70F. The tubs are definitely warmer than the room while the lights are on, typically upper 70’s. At night the tubs are the same temp as the room. I am not concerned with temps as long as the tubs don’t go below mid 60’s or above low to mid 80’s.

You could light the tubs at night when your house is cooler just make sure they have an adequate dark period then during the day.

What causes the java fern leaves to become brown?
@AquariumPlantLab
@AquariumPlantLab 2 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to freshly planted plants then you are probably seeing melt. The plant is ditching the old growth to produce new growth adapted to the new water. If they are old plants and there is excessive browning then you probably have a nutrient deficiency. If it happens to leaves occasionally then they may just be old leaves. I would pluck off old leaves to give room for new healthy leaves to come in 👍

How about the algae and fungus?
@AquariumPlantLab
@AquariumPlantLab 2 жыл бұрын
I have springtails naturally occurring in my setups. They do a great job to keep mold to a minimum. I don't have enough water in the tubs to make algae much of an issue and fungus hasn't been too much of an issue either. Springtails and limited watering are the keys I believe.
