Nipponia Hotel is located in Tambasasayama City in Hyogo Prefecture. Walking through the beautiful streets of the town makes you feel like you've been transported back to the Edo Era! After exploring Tambasasayama I stop by Itami to practice Naginata at Shubukan - one of the 3 largest private dojo in all of Japan. Itami also the birthplace of Japanese sake - they are home to the oldest brewery in Japan!

Funny fact Sharla. Over here in CA, there's an outdated law from the 1920's saying it is illegal to eat oranges while taking a bath. They believed the citric acid would mix with bath oils and create an explosive mixture.

I know you can light the citrus oils on fire, but mixing them in a bath (unless they're mixed in another carrier oil) probably wouldn't ignite. Probably.

I love how the Japanese feed the stray cats. Walking through the canals of Shibaura in Tokyo one evening, I came upon an older lady surrounded by cats (at least 10), feeding them wet food. I said hello and asked if i could help the cats by making a donation and gave her 5000 yen, while mimicking a cat eating to get my point across, as I had little Japanese. She happily accepted and I went on my way. Strangely enough, it was one of the highlights of what was then my first trip to Japan. Every time I return I make it a point to try and find her again. Some would think me weird, but hey, it's a cat thing. I dont care. :P

05:34 that's called Miner's Lettuce in English - we used to grow it in New Zealand, and I've eaten it in Japan as well. You can just keep picking it and it keeps regrowing. Like most herbs you should keep it from getting stressed by too much heat or too little water, or it will go to seed. You can grow your own back home in a pot!

Also that ryokan looked amazing, I'll have to add it to my list of things to maybe do in japan since it is on the pricier side and I've always wanted to learn to use a naginata! Ever since something similar(based on it) was used in one of my favorite book series! Protector of the Small Quartet by Tamora Pierce if anyone is interested. Only thing is to get some of the references and know who some of the characters are you have to read 2 other little quartets by her first since they are all interconnected

What a wonderful hotel. That room was bigger than many apartments in Japan. I lived in Japan for 3 1/2 years in Kanagawa prefecture, about halfway between Tokyo and Mt. Fuji. I loved it there, Japan is so weird and wonderful. The food is so good and so many interesting things to see. I miss it very much. The only things I don't miss are the earthquakes and the population density of the Kanto plain. I went back to Tokyo a couple of years ago to visit, and it was great, and so many memories from when I lived there. I love your videos of all these cool places, it makes me want to return to Japan. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with us. BTW, the Japanese people must love your beautiful, big round eyes!
