I design and sketch cars and I’m also fairly obsessed with cars, and I can tell you that if the owner was going for something that looks like a super car, or any car I’m general he was WAY of the mark. This place only has angles and sharp curves. Right angles, 45 degree angles and nothing but that. Car design can have sharp angles and straight lines, but it also has to be dynamic and purposeful. Stuff has to flow and make sense. And this place has absolutely none of that. And the place is bare! Could you imagine looking at the side of a car and just see a flat red piece of sheet metal?

In the original episode the owner was talking smack about Gordon and his criticisms, and said something along the lines of ' I designed this hotel for me, not for him'. And there lies the problem. Who the fuck builds a hotel for themselves? The guy is a complete air head

Fun fact: On google maps, I looked at this hotel and there was a question about staying there, and there was a response FROM THE OWNER, saying that hotel hell was only for "entertainment purposes". Technicqlly kimda true, evem though it's almost meant to HELP hotels, That just seems like an arrogant way of rejecting the help from Gordon Ramsay.

@@rattiegirl6928 Not all though. Not sure about his success rate with hotels but he had like a 40-60% success rate with kitchen nightmares, which is actually unbelievably good, seeing as most of them were in huge debt. I know the Starkville hotel is still there and doing real well.

@@valkyrja-- For Kitchen Nightmares, the rare wins are Mama Maria's, The Greek, Mrs Jean's Southern Cuisine, Lido De Manhattan, Pantaleones Pizza and Yannis. On The Hotel Side, Laylas Riverside Lodge as if this comment are still open and surprisingly the one with the manager who holds the murder mystery parties

I think the gr team only fixed about 2 rooms for the show, the rest are up to the owners. Thats what i heard/read.. It looks like an apartment flat instead of hotel,..

He never does it just for TV but to actually help people and I noticed that a lot of the U.S owners never realised this. Reality tv really messed up people perception of reality in North America.

This is so infuriating considering how much work was put into it and how nice it was after Gordon made the changes. And of course, the snooty owner thinks that that the hotel is supposed to be designed to his tastes... I was going to San Diego soon and actually considered staying there since Gordon did a superb job at remodeling it. Not anymore.

To be honest, although strange (one does not need a bathtub in the middle of the room), the room it's not that bad...the thing is the price they charge the guests...one can get a cozier room in an Accor hotel and for a more reasonable price...

Jetted tubs are actually disgusting lol. I would never sit in one unless it was in my own home and I installed it. They need to have bleach run through the pipes regularly to clean. I'm so glad they didnt actually sit in it like Gordon did lol! I can only fathom how much DNA is clogged inside those pipes...

It sounds like after the show, based on the fact alot of the original team is not there. The owner probably got rid of them all, took advantage of the items Gordon gifted them, and reverted back. Probably said the things he did so he can get money, some media attention, and go back to how he felt it needed to be done. The owner probably just said things to keep Gordon happy and believe he would change so he can get free stuff. I hope the original crew have better jobs now. Especially the original general manager and the cook from the old restaurant. Cause those two took the blunt of the owner's abuse. It makes me wonder if Gordon ever would think of returning to the hotels like he did for kitchen nightmares.

The red is overused and overwhelming to let people’s mind relax. It feels like an exhibit to show-off all his money that you aren’t supposed to touch, rather than a hotel where you can sink into the experience. Doesn’t feel welcoming, it feels cold and stiff, even with the strong red everywhere. You get exhausted just being there, not to mention the only place to ‘relax’ is the bed. Honestly, watching the video makes me feel uncomfortable. The designers he hired did make it look good at least, considering he had them base it off of cars. Props to them. But the confines of the design weren’t hotel-worthy! There, there’s my completely unnecessary first-impression through video review lol

The aesthetic is interesting and kind of cool, although not my personal taste, but the layout is so impractical. What is with that TV in the bedroom on a side wall? Where are you even meant to watch it from... standing next to the sink? And bathtub right in front of the door and in full view of the window. That and the shower makes it an exhibitionist's dream.

I worked at a franchise hotel that is not associated as being stellar but rather is a good spot for low to moderate prices and being country wide. Our rooms on non event weekdays went from $49 a night to $79. Our standards were so much higher than that place. It was not on the beach but was a eastern coast of Florida motel and the beach was a 12 min drive in non rush traffic.
