21 years old and this is my first year in business in Montana. I have about 40 clients right now, only a couple commercial. Looking at about 8k in gross revenue. That is 3 days of mowing sun up till sun down. And then the following couple of days (Thurs-Sat.) I have other jobs that I do solo, anywhere from apartment complex unit cleanups, or mulch jobs or weeding. I try to get a lot of overall profit on those days. Thanks for making these videos by the way man, everything you are saying I can relate to, I respect you for sharing your journey.

Great video bro! I'm a 31 year old Mexican living in the Bronx part of New York City, I've been working in a landscaping company for about 4 years now and i started thinking on working on my own or with my father, he works in the same company i work and i already told him about my plans and i feel like i or we can make it happen because he's got more experience (like 15 years experience) so with his experience and my experience i think we can do it. when i started watching this video my reaction was a WOW reaction because i have the SAME thoughts you have. My brother bought all the equipment a month ago and I've mowed the lawn twice at home and he's got one customer. The first time It was wonderful I felt energized. Today I mowed again and I got sun burnt and dehydrated really fast. I'm stupid because I wanted a 'tan' and i wore shorts and a tank top. I live in Alabama and the yards here are much bigger than Florida, which is where i'm originally from. You pretty much have to have a good riding mower here, preferably the one where you stand up. There's lawn companies everywhere here! I am going to have to invest in a better mower because it will cut down so much on time spent mowing these lawns that are half an acre or more. I spent 2 hours digging up 4 bushes, a bunch of big rocks in the yard, weed eating, bush trimming, mowing and blowing.I did it to my own yard because I don't have clients yet, lol. We haven't marketed the business yet. I definitely want a mower that's a lot wider than what we have. In due time I guess. I'm a web developer looking for a job right now but I haven't been able to find one so i'm thinking about helping my brother find clients so we can at least pay the bills haha.

Nice man!! I definitely can share some tips to beat the heat I have come across, starting early is key as your body can acclimate to the weather. If I start mowing at 10-11am, my body is never primed and I move slow. Starting around 8am your body get used to the warmer temps! Also I wear all dri-fit/fishing clothing when mowing, never cotton. A bucket hat also def makes a big difference. I drink Propel as well if I begin to ever sweat! Always chug water and you should be good to go. I defintiely hear you on every needing a stander over there, complete different markets I can imagine!! That's funny, I wanted to be a web developer for a short period while in college but ended up mowing 😁

I've got a other job that prevents me from expanding my business without employees. I have figured out all of the expenses and factored that cost into a charge per man hour. I can make income just by rigging up contract mows and organising timetables, while I'm at my other job. The issue is trying to fill a roster with mows to keep the crew busy, the once that's done make another crew and double the profits

Yessir you understand! Solo just means you need to be very picky with the yards that you take on- which is 100% doable with patience and good marketing 🙂 if you find a good worker- no problem with keeping them around on the side for extra help when needed! But i don’t want to be dependent on Anyone except for myself 💪 running the workers is more delicate than running the actual mowing business- so just be ready for what it brings and don’t let anything stress you more than needed my Brother 🙏 you are always in control never forget that & never put anyone else before yourself, as tempting as it may be with workers asking for this & that!

Nice video bro I see where you're coming from! I personally kind of would rather be the one to run the company do the pricing scheduling equipment and so on but also involved on the field occasionally to make sure I'm communicating with the customers time to time (especially residential) , pricing correctly , make sure my crews are safe, happy, not damaging equipment, and performing well , make sure quality is up to standards. But also be able to step out and run the business and take care of other things on the side. Kind of like in the middle of the both of the two if there was a third option lol. About how many yards are you cutting doing it alone? I'm also still working by myself right now .

I found that I can make close to half of what I make in a week at my job in a day! Your videos are legit informative and real. All it takes is confidence and will. 40$/per doing it twice a month. Unfortunately I’m getting to the point where having some people who work on call are beneficial for me. An example would be I just had a new client request about 40 man hours of weeding. It makes more sense to hire a few friends for a day and we knock it out in a day rather then trying to schedule in 40 hours. I make less, but my schedule is less busy this way and I can get the property to a point where I can upkeep it easily with maybe 2 people twice a month.

I am trying to get to the point where I can hire 1 person to mow lawns with me. I could make 50% more money working with a 2nd guy at $10-$15/hr if the guy is 25% slower than me. Which is to be expected. Making sure you don't throw a rock through a window is more important than 5 or 10 minutes... but if I charge $50 for a lawn that takes me 45 min by myself Or 30 min with a helper ($7.50) then I could make $67/hr by myself or $92.50/hr with a helper after paying wages. Of course that means I need more customers and those numbers may go down if their is excessive drive time. I am only thinking just one person at this time, not having crews out with my vehicle and equipment trusting that they will do their job when I am not present.

Last year I had a HORRIBLE experience with a helper. After firing him for drinking on the job it turned into a big feud. This year with the virus floating around I've decided to go solo and couldn't be happier. No more no shows, lateness, broken equipment, taxi rides, or baby sitting . Now I only take new lawns within 2 or 3 miles from my house. My fuel cost have plummeted and eating lunch at home has been great.

Big lawncare companies are failing right now. A lot of commercial companies are having a hard time keeping employee's, and in the end it ends with commercial clients terminating services due to breached contract agreements. I know quite a few properties now mowed by people going solo. They just traded in 40 yards a week for 4 commercial properties a week "I'm talking large properties" making more doing it and not having to worry about getting paid. Of course you have to carry higher insurance, have to have a herbicide license, and other licenses "Despite local regulation commercial clients will not take you without it" It ends up being a better gig overall from what the couple of guys doing it I know have said. I've noticed a huge trend on youtube, it seems the most successful people are solo, or they are 50/50 partners with one other person. Judging by the people I watch on youtube that try to hire a partner, you are better off staying solo. The 50/50 situations seem to be the best because you can take bigger jobs that pay better, and the other person is equally as vested as you. Love the videos

Shindaiwa T262 if you can afford it. Pretty much it's just an Echo 2620 pimped out a bit and it's red, not orange. Got mine for $370 out the door at my local lawn shop. Cuts like a beast, I get about 50 minutes per tank under load at wide open throttle, though I usually run it half throttle. Starts easy, choke and pull once, choke off and pull once and starts right up. I've had mine a few months now, love it!

What happens if life happens and you can’t work for weeks? What happens when you get older and your body starts declining. Yes saving sounds good but what happens when you can’t pay mortgage,rent, child support. Not being negative but just saying been solo for 25 years.
@Makemoneymowing
@Makemoneymowing 4 жыл бұрын
Not negative at all! This is a topic that deserves it's own video 🙂 I'd love to hear how your 25 year solo journey has been! This is all I can share for how I operate & view the concepts you asked about. 1) When life happens and I can't work for weeks: that has happened as I have gotten injured from skating and couldn't work for a few weeks... I had enough saved up where me not working was not a problem at all, and I could put all of my focus into healing. Key note: I didn't always have that mindset as this is only coming from my current savings. When I started mowing and was building to this point, I likely would have been more stressed as I had much less savings & income coming in. But, month after month I slowly and surely grinded past that point of having those "emergency" money worries, and now I'm at my peak where I can instead shift that focus onto expanding- not simply just "surviving" Back to the injury- I told my customers I will do as much as I can with a helper until I am fully healed, and their yard might have to wait an extra 2~ weeks. If they are cool with that- awesome! If they are not and need their yard done quicker- I will either have a fellow lawn service cover me, or just release the yard if it came down to it. I rarely had a customer release due to me having to extend a few weeks- plus I am getting flooded with new callers every week that replacing those small amount is quick and simple. If I want to go on a 2-week vacation, I could swing that whenever I want as I just have to let my customers ahead of time. I can get their yards covered by another service, or they can wait for me. It's never been a problem as long as I don't leave during my peak busy times, which I don't do. I don't take many vacations (at least for now) because I want to continue working, but it's nice having that choice of being in control for whatever I desire! 2) When I get older and body becomes to decline, to be honest I only see myself mowing for the next 5 years (but I'm shooting for less, maybe 2-3 years). I've done a lot with my business, mowed 1000's of yards, and saved a TON of capital for my next business endeavors. I plan on ultimately creating income from this channel in multiple avenues to put me in a spot where I don't have to mow, and I can make a living from my courses helping others start & grow their business', 1-on-1 consulting, and all the other awesome incomes that can come from a large audience when you're focusing on putting out honest content. I do see 50-60 year olds solo operators mowing yards near my customers all the time, that is not my goal to mow to that age, but if all else failed I could easily mow the next 10+ years with the way I eat, sleep, and exercise, and balance stress ✅ My situation will differ from everyone else's, but this is just the comfortable position I built myself into over the past years from working, saving, and learning! I already proved to myself I can operate a physical business (which was the hardest part for me- seeing my own true potential), so I see no reason why I can't transfer that same drive towards an online business model 👁
