This ONE OWNER, 27k Mile C4 is the nicest car any of us here at Stay Tuned have ever seen. It was just purchased at Auction by my good buddy Brenden, and he thought it would be a good idea to leave it with us for a week to give it a once over. Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew surprised him with a bunch of sweet upgrades to this absolute time capsule and made it better, faster, and even cooler than when it rolled off the showroom floor in 1986!
Right now, Avalon King is offering a special discount for Stay Tuned viewers! Buy the MAX Ceramic Coating and you'll get a FREE Rim Reaper Tyre Cleaner!

Fun Fact: The C4 Corvette was so dominant at the Sports Car Club of America's series known as the Showroom Class, that BMW and Porsche, who were running the E30 and the 944, had six to seven full time German engineers at the races to see why the Corvettes were so dominant, consistently finishing First thu Fourth!! The series was set up as a showroom class because all you had to do was add a roll cage for safety and then shave the tires for track grip and go race! The Goodyear Eagle GT tires(Gatorbacks) that came on the Corvette, BMW and Porsche were the one of the first really super sticky, almost R compound tires of the day, taken straight from Formula 1s "rain tires" . The bone stock Corvettes were so unbeatable that the SCCA actually had to start a series called the "Corvette Challenge" because the Germans just couldn't keep up !

@@StayTunedTA They are on a different level. Everyone hates on them, but I just don't understand why, outside of raddles and plastic that can break. You can't beat that off the line TPI power, insane handling. The Z51 cars were even more next level, with the bilsteins, bigger sway bars, pusher/puller fans and a massive radiator, oil cooler, 12.7:1 steering ratio. and a better rear gear ratio. I think the wheels were 9" wide vs the regular 8, 8.5 wheels. Ok I miss mine now. You have a killer car!

Honestly the C4 corvette is my favourite of the bunch. That retro futuristic styling, wedge body shape, gorgeous turbine wheels, and clean lines are just wonderful. I know they break down, they're neglected, the instrument cluster is unreliable, they're slower than the LS cars, but they're just special feeling and looking.
@ratherbeboating10

Having driven a lot of them, the C4 ends up being the last... I don't know what the right word really is... I guess analog or traditional feeling one of the bunch... You drive it and go "okay... muscle car go kart." Not that the newer ones aren't better in every single way. It's just there is a level of rawness about it that makes it fun but it can still be tame and they drive really well. I'd personally want one of each but the C4 is an outlier for sure.

$14k would be steep pre-covid but I think prices have come up on the C4 a bit now that all the other go-to cars of the era have shot up in price. As was said earlier in the video. A $6k C4 would need way more than 8 grand to make it as nice as the low mile csr for $14k. I paid $4k for mine in 2020, I put over 20 into it. Most of that was in upgrades, but stuff like carpet, weatherstripping, digital dash repair all adds up pretty quick. Stay Tuned needs their own C4! Pick a driver quality one up, throw in a ZF6 or TKX and hop up that small block chevy.

A C4 Corvette has been a staple of my automotive bucket list for years, ever since I got to get up close with my neighbor's. I instantly fell in love with the LCD dash, and I'm a sucker for the pop ups and turbofan wheels. I want to build one as a Vette kart, but I want to try and retain some of the iconic C4 elements like those wheels, pop ups, and the dash, as well as trying to form the exoskeleton to mimic some of the shape and body lines. Such an awesome machine!

As a guy who is refurbishing a 1988 manual C4 coupe, I would say that this car was worth _every bit_ of $14.5k. People today just don't understand what a serious, well-engineered, world class sports car the C4 Corvette was. It was the C8 of its day, but that was 40 years ago and we had no internet back then. However, you can still look up period road tests in the Car&Driver archives, for example, and you just might be amazed at how good the C4 really is. They are incredible bargains hiding in plain sight today. A word of caution on a car like this one, though. Every original piece of rubber in it is now roughly 40 years old and needs to be replaced. That includes fuel lines, for example! Fire sucks... It also includes coolant lines, brake lines, suspension bushings, weather seals, etc.

Excellent buy, I’ve always liked the C4 Corvette, I think it has the best tail lights and headlights. If you get some GM silicone weatherstrip lubricant and put it on all of the door gaskets and seals in that car it will make it nice and quiet again. The majority of all the little squeaks and rattles will go away. Plus if you go through with a Phillips screwdriver and a torque bit and tighten up all the little trim pieces etc. you will have a nice tight car Corvette again.

It could not hold it very long because of the tires technologies at that time. I always felt the 350 TPI in the Corvette was under rated. On paper the 350 TPI where only a little more powerful then the 305 TPI in the Iroc. The cars were night a day. THe only bad thing about that car in the manual transmission and the dash.

Most people lump the C4 into the 'pig, stay away' category, but if you buy the right year models (ie from when the LT1 started, up to the LT4) they are a gem of a car to operate and service maybe bar a couple of things like Optisparks and leaky tops - but they are one time fixes, do it once and then it's done probably for the life of you owning the car. I reckon they look real tough looking at the front end with the pumped arches and sleek uncluttered bonnetline, especially with the Callaway models with the wider arches and fat 335 tank treads

That 4+3 trans was awesome. You could cruise in top gear button down then stomp it and it would drop to 2nd and shift all the way back up by itself automatically. Amazing for the 80's.

Another fine one, Anthony! I remember when those cars were new - for some strange reason, the TAIL LIGHTS sparked off a craze in St. Louis to see how many different kinds of cars and trucks the C4 lights could be adapted to. For my money, the best adaptation was a cherry 1965 Impala Super Sport - they looked so good frenched into the decklid that nobody noticed that there were only two lights per side {like a Bel Air or Biscayne}, instead of the Imp's proper three. Cleaned up the whole rear end of that car, they surely did. I do have one question though - when is Brenden gonna match-race the VETTE-KART then, eh??? What?? C4 vs. C4, dig? 😝

Some of you might like to read the article I wrote for Corvette Enthusiast Magazine called "Deadly C4". It was about a black over red 86 coupe that was owned by a guy from New York. The previous two owners had died. The car was just as pristine as this one and had some tasteful mods. Unfortunately the guy who owned the car also passed away about 3 years after the article was published. It is great to see the original wheels on this car as most of the 84-87 wheels you see out there are severely oxidized. Nice job!

I really loved how clean it was with those wide tires and sick engine, but when I saw the dash with the cool looking gauges, I was like OMG I have to have one of those. The way that tachometer looks when you step on the gas would have looked space age and high tech back in 86. It looks that way to me now, I love it. That thing is sick. It's like a time capsule.

I bought my 1986 Z51 Vette in 1992 at age 20 with 44,000 miles for $10,500... Still own it 31 years later. This video makes me want to restore it to factory clean condition again. it has 86,000 miles now and its been through a lot...(4 engines, 4 transmissions, 3 rear ends and low 11's. Tach in my avatar). Still wish I left it stock though. it was such a lady... now she's a tramp.

I think he did well on the purchase price of the car as recall it was $15K. I just bought an '87 base coupe auto with 50,655 on the clock now at 51K for $7K but it has some issues: Brakes had to be redone, added stainless braided lines for pedal feel (might as well doing full flush pad and caliper replace anyway) new tires done, some weird wiring due to PO adding a burglar alarm that was poorly installed. I have about $10K in her car with a bit more to go. The ceramic coating is a must, incredible results! Hers is silver with a charcoal interior, paint is excellent, but it needs clay a bar treatment. It came with a new cat back I think it's a Borla.

I absolutely LOVED my '96 Grand Sport. I wish I still had it, but I traded it in on a 2008 Buick Lacrosse CXL when my work car went to hell and I didn't have work car money because I'd just bought my house. It was EXACTLY hot enough, sounded great, and if I lived somewhere that it didn't snow, it would've BEEN my work car at like 23-25 mpg average if I didn't get after it much. With exceptions for some of the typical LT1/4 maintenance parts, it was incredibly reliable. Only had 90,000 on it when I traded it in. Still on the original clutch and rear brakes.
