I'm sitting here watching and trying to get stainless splinters out of my fingers and I'm doing nowhere near the lathe work that you were handling. The steady looked ruff but real tuff. Good job.

Great job, only seen few things you'll probably want to change, 1st and most likely to mess up on you is those screws you used to move the fingers up and down, those look like a bunch of scews/bolts we where gifted, but they are not strong, even screwing them into the hole, shavings of them where everywhere, might wanna get some hardened bolts and replace them for piece of mind and the pins in the base, leave them and just add a heavy spot weld on outside edges, afraid if you get a chip caught in between the stock and one of bearings it may want to torque it off your base, besides that, really like that it can be dismantled for repairs, always prepare for the unexpected 😉 good luck and great video

Why did you make this in one piece? I know it’s easier to bake that way, but it’s also less versatile. Without being able to put a bar into the chuck with the rest open, you’ve got to maneuver everything. By the way, when taking a heavy cut with the bit aligned perpendicular to the cut, all of the pressure is directed straight back, parallel to the bar, giving the chuck jaws all of the pressure. The rest receives almost no pressure in that case.
