Hey Taku, Sorry you had an unpleasant experience with those fly fishermen. As a Canadian fly fisher we share pretty much everything with other folks to make sure everyone share the fun. I am not a KZfaqr but I used to post a few videos. I fish a lot. If you want some fly fishing help look me up. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Be safe

Pike. Red Devil spoon over weed beds and or near drop off. Don't be shy to put on one of the bigger ones. Bigger lure, bigger fish. Also, if you find a weed bed, don't be shy to go top water, Zara Spook or frog. Pike are vicious hunters and like to ATTACK. Pike have really sharp teeth, might want to tie on a metal leader and use a swivel so line doesn't get all twisted and tangled.

Northern Pike are great! Usually an aggressive rattling bait, something called a rattle trap works great! The bigger ones tend to swim towards deeper water so sometimes even a shallow diver works! But the most consistent pike fishing i’ve ever done is on rivers of bigger lakes where water tends to pool up and form little basins. The love hunting near lillie’s where you can find drop offs. And you’ll know it’s a pike when it hits, they take your line and run fast like a barracuda, crazy fighting fish man good luck!!!!

Hello taku I fish pike almost everyday , your best best is 5 of diamonds , red devil treble hooks , and you need to use a steel leader pike have sharp teeth and will bite you off , 10-20 pound test whatever you prefer really , or use pickerel rig with minnows or shiners if you decide to fish from shore , and that tiger lure isn’t bad , pike are predators and they eat anything lol
@leethao9711

For Alaska pike you can use pretty much any top water lures like frogs or mice. They bite small swimbaits and Spinnerbaits works as well.

for pike pretty much anything works! Although personally I've caught them on soft plastics, spinner baits and rapalas (lures I use for bass aswell). Try and fish over weed beds that's where they seem to hang out but they can also easily be found in small rivers and creeks.

When I lived in North Dakota we used half ounce up to ounce clothespin style white spinner baits with big willow leaf blades of bright silver and also Brass, skirt’s were white, sometimes white and chartreuse. Your leaders have to be short and heavy to avoid bite offs. In Canada we often caught Pike over 50 pounds. Good fishing my friend

My family and I go up the northern MN every year to fish. Atleast one day we go for Northern pike and we usually limit. The love perch colored rapalas, like the one you used. Small one, big ones alike. Decent sized little cleos or spoons they also love. Red and sliver, magenta and gold, black and gold. Great colors for any lure, Rapala, or spoon

It is possible if you are using braid with no backer or tape around the spool that the line could spinning around the spool. That’s usually the cause if the drag is all the way tight. Spool on a few yards of mono line or wrap the spool with a piece of electrical tape or duct tape to give the line something to grip.

In the EU on the big lakes we mostly go trolling for big pike. We use crankbaits and big rubber lures ca. 20- 35 cm in length to troll for them. In the summer speeds from 3,5-4,5 km/h are best. The depth varies from 3-6 m depth. The biggest pike are often far out in lake. They follow species like whitefish. It you are into casting structure like dead trees, in and outlets and weeds close to shore often hold some promise. Good luck and good catches

If those small handheld Thermacell works for you, look at the Backpacker model - it attaches to those camping fuel canisters and looks to be much bigger and more reliable than the small handheld ones. I agree with your assessment that the rechargable models are crap. I hate bugs (and the outdoors) and hoping the backpacker models will help when we go camping in a month!

I have been fishing for northern pike exactly like that for my whole life. With a canoe, a rapala, glassy northern lake. It seems to me like you don't want to paddle too fast with the rapala. There is no need, I think it can scare the fish a bit. A slow cruise works well.

I catch pike all the time by casting very big red and white spoons, Basically as big as you can find. Let it hit bottom and reel fast. Pike are predators (basically a freshwater shark) so they don’t need to be enticed much. They like big splashes too so you often get hit right after the lure hits the water.
