Everyone in Uganda is entitled to free medicine to combat killer diseases like malaria. Despite Government efforts to improve access to essential medicines, a significant number of people have to use private facilities because of frequent stockouts.
BBC Africa Eye headed undercover to expose one of the reasons why there is shortage of life saving drugs - medicine theft by medical professionals.
Africa Eye worked together with the Ugandan investigative journalist, Solomon Serwanjja.

For what? For singling out and focusing only on the people of Northern Uganda who were just the small fish in this medical "mafia" network? Please. What did this so called investigative journalism achieve? All this piece does is confirm what most Ugandans/Africans already know. The criminals still walk free. The big fish and their villages/home towns are not even mentioned. Cowardly journalism! Did you not hear him say "no go areas in Uganda"? Who do you think he was referring to? Nothing happens.yes When corruption is frm head to the foot. When the root of a tree gets rotten, the entire tree must be chop. In Africa we feed corruption & the branches keep on growing into the different type of socialdisorder which the next generation must inherit & feed the cartels. The cartels & their agents are like a union That gives each other immunity for survival. its like untreatable cancer. Bekos the symptoms of the disease is not treated. Most of the time we only cure unknown disease without symptom & that is wen we know the cousre of the problem Actually ignoring the truth. In Africa everyone is an active agent for corruption.

This is quite common here in Kenya. Most of the health workers who work for government health centres have devised plans on how to steal from the hospitals. When you go to the hospitals as a patient, you are told there're no drugs in the government facility. The doctor will write down you a prescription. Then you are advised where you are going to buy those drugs from. The health facility you are directed to go buy the medicine, belongs to the doctor or his/her friend who writes you the prescription. The health facility are just outside, or a few metres from the government facility.

As a Ugandan who qualified with bachelor's of science in public health and intend to go back to school to study medicine this is really hurting. I of course know that there are good and honest doctors out there. However the bad seeds even end up un doing the noble work being done by honest doctors. Our health sector has a lot of issues this (what's covered in the video) being one of them
