you want to fly as fast as possible before shooting the torp so it inherits your ship velocity otherwise it will get flared before its even close

Ahh does it do that now? I remember when your ship’s speed didn’t matter and going too fast resulted in the torp blowing up immediately after launch. 😂 I’m going to have to try it!

Flaring won't work against these particular torpedoes. These are cross-section torps so won't be distracted by flairs.

@@SickPrid3decoy works against em guidance. Flare works against ir guidance. Nothing counters cs except reduced cs which is a property of the shape of the object. CS missiles are easier to evade with maneuver however thus preserving balance. That's the intention anyway, however due to bugs, sometimes ir missiles like these torps won't be misguided by countermeasures. And often at close ranges they will simply not miss. Stealth is also not working as intended so even this video doesn't really show the eclipse as intended

@@berryrareguy Yeah, size 9 torbs flying backwards, despawn after the half range, cant shoot, cant rearm or wrong armament information. It is not only one game breaking bug, there are dozens only for this one specific gameplay. The mAcHiNe.

I wish they would let us turn off the internal lights. I perfered the eclipse when it was bugged and the switches were dark. At least let us dim them so that they dont overpower the scenery.

Honestly, AFAIK it is pointless to switch off your shields etc., as what counts is the largest of the three signatures, which was cross section in your case, I believe. And you cannot turn that one off. :) Also don't count on staying undetected if someone ping-scans you. You will be revealed for a while.

Agree. The best strategy is probably to get in, launch close, and and GTFO of there ASAP

CS doesn't work well yet and stealth isn't working right either. Depends on the patch but em and ir will reveal you faster than cs. You can see this by testing against NPCs as they will pick you up closer if you don't go dark. However, it always seems to go back and forth due to endless bugs

Once stealth is far more fleshed out it will be a thinking mans game, currently the meta is lock on, get your speed up on the pass, get as close as possible before firing (2.8km-3km) and get out. I've seen skilled pilots drop 2 before RTB. Also once shields are fully charged they can be left on its the recharge that reveals you, and if you're hit by then anyway you will already be revealed and hopefully on your way out. That being said you can line up the perfect shot and within the best kill range and still miss in pvp. PVE you can hit em from 7km out with velocity because they just sit there

Love the idea of Eclipse fleets taking runs at a capital ship in space. A majority of them not making it to see another day. But a few breaking past defenses and taking out the mothership

I was using the default load out for the Eclipse but ended up later switching in Seeker 9s for a faster torpedo speed! Definitely check them out. Thanks for watching.

What discerns the lock from remaining big, spread out, and red - such as that at 2:35 - as opposed to the much tighter, green lock? I run Seeker IXs and sometimes feel like they just never lock. I’ll lock into my target from maximum arming range and even get in close, even past minimum arming range, and nothing. This is a common occurrence it feels like for me :(

As much as people say Seekers are better, I also haven’t had much luck with them either. But also, torps are at the whim of server FPS… keep experimenting! Curious to see what 3.20 has in store for the stealth torp game

Seekers are nerfed in alpha 3.19.1 - there’s a 50% chance they will go dumb after you lock and fire. Typhoons are a lot better, and you can basically sneak up to an NPC Hammerhead and fire from 8km out with 100% kill rate. WingTypeZero recently did a YT video on this

What is the cross section on the Eclipse? As I understand it, its the highest of three IR, EM & CS that determines your detect range, right? Ship's CS is often very high depending on how you present to the scanner. Do you know if your CS is low enough to make killing all your systems necessary? I fly a Ghost and am waiting (impatiently at times) for the stealth mechanics to actually be in play. Armor as well. The indicator in the center there is your CS. See how much larger it is than your IR? Take a look with your shields up and see how they compare. If the CS is still the same size or larger, there is no benefit to powering down systems... yet! Yeah it is stupid expensive but does come in handy as the Leeroy Jenkins-mobile. 3 torps is so limited but I can see in a large scale battle scenario where a couple of theses are docked 50km out until called upon to quickly take out large threats.

What makes no sense to me…. Is how do they not just chaff off the torpedo and render your entire ship useless?

Chaff doesn't protect from all missile types. IR missiles will get fooled by Decoy. EM missiles will get fooled by Noise. CS missiles will ignore countermeasures and target the cross section of the ship. Only way to escape those is well timed evasive maneuvers.
