With the possibility of intruders during the night, I would have kept my trusty boots on my feet. You never know in an urban setting if you may have to jump up and flee, in an instant, or fight off invaders. Having a good escape route is a good plan also. The ants were a nuisance. People or wild animals can be life-threatening in wrong circumstances. Glad to see you still are putting up great videos!

The water key is a "silcock key" and they also make a version that is used for opening electrical panels which can actually come in really handy.

Hats off to you brother! This is not something i am brave enough to do. Just the anxiety and worry about stolen stuff would keep me awake the whole night,not to mention the bugs and crawlies.

Hey brother, another great stealth camping video! 👍👍👍 I carry a small flat 6" round piece of aluminum to set the military canteen cup on the gas cook stove with my kit. Now it don't fall over or off the gas stove anymore! God bless you and Keep up the good work! I did a stealth night camp by the old railroad in wildwood Fl a few weeks ago with my camo drop tarp. It rained hard and cooled off the jungle heat for a while! 98 degrees with high 90+% humidity today with a 114 heat index is scorching down here! Texas is dry heat and you don't realize your dehydrated but here your clothes gets soaked with sweat and you definitely need bug spray or fire smoke to get rid of bugs. I got my sawyer mini water filter and always carry two 32oz stainless steel water bottles with cup kits full of potable water! I always carry a couple backup 20oz zeperhills water bottles as well! In this heat you need lots of water! I walked trough the woods after work today from the cabin projects I am working on and found a clean freshwater pond and filled up all my water bottles! The water here is sweet water awesomeness and tasty great compared to Texas water! Monday I am going to a big fleamarket in Webster Fl looking for gear, tools and deals in memory of my fathers favorite flea market! Me and my three brothers are going there for a all day long day off good time! Anything you need they usually find at a good price!

Great video as always James, very informative and I learned some things that I hadn't considered that I'll have to try and plan for and try and remedy... Like namely the ant situation when doing urban camping, glad to see people such as yourself that will do real world testing of these scenarios to show all the obstacles that one might actually face, as most people I think have this idea that it'll be just as easy as they make it look on TV and in the movies.

Loved your video, as usual, very real and straight. My part of the world has lots more water, shade and lower temps - Aotearoa/New Zealand. I too would keep my shoes on because of people. Infestations are not easily dealt with overnight, maybe a small camp fire would have worked, but always raises the profile.

Great video James! These urban scenarios are awesome and obviously present their own unique obstacles. One thing to consider, should you encounter it again, preheat the container with the ants on them. They’ll either quickly get off or roast. You can then either discard or leave in as added seasoning lol. Keep up the great work!🙌🏽

I love this video, amigo, I have often urban stealth camped in places like this. a tip about the ants, make room in you pack for a can of raid, and spray them where you are going to be to keep them in check. One thing tho, for your own safety, please do not have you lantern so bright after dark, it draws unwanted attention that you would not want and we do not want you to get hurt. This was a very good video, my friend, please make more videos like this...p.s. I love the view, no place like El Paso

Try the grill grate from a small toaster oven on top of your stove, it should be a little bit better for a canteen cup that shape. that kind of looks like a tunnel i hoboed in one time when in I was in El Paso, it is the most beautiful city in Texas, I think

The Pocket Rocket is a very good stove but more of a bug out tool than a homeless tool. Would be good to see more use of fire in urban areas and how to hide it. most homeless don't own much gear like a wood stove but such stoves can be made from tin cans too and burn only twigs and small wood, not logs like a bonfire. Great tip on canteen cups, I gave them up years ago but they are attractive, this will always be in mind when I pack a pot for a gas stove. I just picked up a 1 L pot with bail handle for stoves and campfires. This video could be part of a series, with maybe follow up videos being interviews with homeless people around the survival skills they use.

I love camp coffee, whether it's percolator coffee or straight cowboy cowboy coffee in a percolator pot, I'm sure others would love to see your method of making coffee in a percolator coffee pot too...

I just want to say, very well done, great video, most other people probably would have packed it in and gone home but you stuck with it, great example on being prepared for the right situation and having redundancies, it is a shame about the food, it looked really good, glad you didn't let it get you down

Thanks for doing this video! Great editing and topic as always. My thoughts as I watched it: In a true 'bug-out' situation it wouldn't matter, but hopefully the multi-tool didn't damage the spigot stem. I'm thinking in addition to a silcock, a typical spigot handle/wheel might not be a bad item for a bugout bag as well. From a security standpoint, it's probably best to minimize the light usage and any noise as much as possible to avoid drawing attention. I'm sure you did this, and only had the light on for filming, but a good thing for folks to think about. This brings up a good point about ants and creepy crawlies in the urban situation. Something to noodle on - how to prescreen an area for ants, how to deter/block them, as well as scorpions, cockroaches, etc. All of this is just my ramblings, time for me to quit typing and get out there and start doing some of this myself.

Depending on your preference and tolerance, there are several types of essential oils such as eucalyptus which most insects absolutely hate and avoid that you can use around your sleeping area outdoors. I have never had an ant problem that bad though so could not tell you it works on them 100% but it should. To borrow a phrase from my other favorite adventure channel, now we're camping with James. Time for a step 2.

You mentioned no cutting board. I have a solution to that in all my packs and bags. It’s multipurpose too.Walmart sells a multipack of super thin plastic cutting boards for three or four bucks. I trim them to fit in the pack or bag nearest my body. This helps with hard objects rubbing or poking. It also can be used as a dry seat or kneeling pad. You can fan a fire. It can be a windscreen for a stove. Of course it’s still a cutting board for food prep. Cheap enough to replace as needed and weighs nothing and takes next to no space.

I would try to get out of city but had two spent a night or two yes but I you know their will more people show up when the shit happens so sleep lightly and get out for sure. They may not have food

Great video, but folks as someone who has been homeless & spent many a night sleeping on or roaming the streets often looking for trouble security is key. While a multitool is handy I don't cound even the best knives you can get on one as a a reall get work done knife, & if you need to defend yourself with one while itbis better than nothing it sure isn't a good folder & definitely not a fixed blade. Also we should all EDC a firearm & that goes doublynso in a scenario like this. If there is graffiti or trash someone has been there, possibly slept, copulated or got high there. While those encounters can go well or be uneventful they can also go really bad so be prepared for that.

Have you ever considered using a can lid with holes drilled into it as a base for the canteen cup? That may provide some stability and it wouldn't take up much space. Just a thought.

Beeing more of a city boy than i like to admit. This is exactly my kind of jam! Population centers are full of Ressources. In any kind of "Survival" situation you want to get into a City every now and then to Scavage and Trade! Urban survival gear is such a funny dichotomy, on the outside you want to look like a nobody with nothing on you. But you are actually the most geared person in the town! But the gear you carry has to also be able to conceal you, wich is usually very suspicious if worn in public. Lots of planning ahead. I have a Camo Poncho and Camo Shemagh in my Grey, Nontactical City backpack. This gives me some cover while sleeping/hiding but once packed away no one would know i have gear on me! For Propper Search and Evasion LARP, its good to have a different Hat/Glasses/Shoes/Jacket/Pants with you to be able to change into a completely different look to get out of town.

4 way anti vandal tap key. Often a park or other place will have the tap handle removed so people cannot use the water or leave the tap on or otherwise interfere with the tap, This key has 4 different sockets that fit the common tap spindles and allow a handle less tap to be used. Not Illegal to have, MY be illegal to use if it is not your tap!

Fire ants are the worst ! They go for any meat or grease so keep clean and off the ground if you can . A learning experience to be sure

People stealth camp in the desert all around St. George Utah. The best part is, no misquotes.

With rice-based dishes if you bring it to a fierce hot boil then lid it FIRMLY, (some thick foil helps with the seal) then take it of the heat and wrap it in warm gear (I use woolens, your blanket would be ideal, beanies work well too) then *leave it completely alone for 20 mins* , it will continue to cook perfectly. I call it a 'blanket hangi' and it works a damn treat let me tell ya!

James, as a homeless person just recently drown that had been living in a dry canal, you might want to note that urban camping in canal areas, storm ponds and culverts can be a death trap if a quick, unexpected storm comes along. Plan ahead and have options. One more thing that might be considered. Being right here on the border where thousands are coming into our county daily, included those that do not want to be apprehended, don’t let your guard down.

Great video. A couple of tips for the next one. Don't do your cooking and eating near your bed, even small morsels can attract pests. Also think about setting up an alarm of some sort like a couple of cans tied together and stretched across the tunnel. Survival takes some planning. You can rummage through garbage to find useful items. Good luck bro. Tienes huevos.

That gerber multi tool is pretty decent. I carry it every day on my belt in the holster it comes with. Don’t use it that often but it’s there when needed. 🤠👍🏻

I've been carrying mine for...and I kid you not...for 26 years and it is as good as the day I bought it. Camping, fishing, everyday use, it never leaves my side and has never let me down.
