My mom suffered years on and off wound vacs so the fact that Nicolette is doing as much as she is doing (safely) is AMAZING!!! Kudos to her, I’m super impressed 🥰. ALSO, Brian, you are 1000% correct, I’ve been married for 23 years (met in HS and basically grew up together). The only reason we’ve made it this far is because we share the good, bad, & sad parts of life, we support one another and go back and forth on leadership…that’s the best way I can explain it, it’s a partnership. Long ago story, I was a young mother and we were celebrating a day at the lake with extended family. It just so happen to be my “restful weekend” and I chose to spend it lounging on the beach reading a book while my husband occupied and played with our young daughters in and out of the water. At one point a male friend of one of our extended family members walked over to me and said “you are one lucky wife, how does it feel watching your husband do absolutely everything, would you like some BonBons with that book”? BonBons is part of an old saying that refers to lazy housewives. Anyway, I was shocked, felt humiliated & defensive - it ruined my day, and unfortunately turned into a negative core memory. Years later when I saw him again I asked him how divorced life was treating him while cuddling with my husband and watching my (now) adult daughters mingle with family members. Don’t judge others, it’s not your life and you have absolutely no clue what goes on behind closed doors!

OMG if those commenters had ANY idea how hard it is to be on bed rest with a wound, wound vac and an infection… Interesting how people tell on themselves with their own ignorance. Hugs to you, listen to your body and your doctors and F the rando comments. :)

Same thing with a wheelchair. People KNOW I have spinal problems; thus sitting -up in my chair beyond two hours requires pain killers because it actually hurts. I have explained this so often, and to so many people. And, yet.....they expect to be out-and-about with me for four, five hours plus. I say nothing ( usually ), but it is frustrating. makes me angry, too.

I think you two are getting those 'comments' because they don't understand what Nicolette's medical issue is. You've never really explained it so that people who don't have experience with it can understand. I used to work for a home health corporation so I figured it out. Decubitus wounds are very serious issues specifically because circulation is very difficult to maintain. You two are killin' it with your attitudes and coping mechanisms. Kudos.

Thank you for your input! I share my medical journey to educate while walking the fine line of providing medical privacy for myself and it can come off as spotty. You’re very right that it can be extremely hard to understand for the average person. I’m considering a more educational video - it’s just hard to be vulnerable sometimes. Appreciate you 🫶🏼

Hey Y’all! My name is Traci and I just wanted to share a little bit of my life with y’all. My daughter has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, SMA for short. I have had parents tell me that my daughter was faking her disability when she was in Middle School or Junior High. They said she was lazy and just wanted people to feel sorry for her. At the time I told one of the parents that they better watch their back because if I see them face to face I was going to beat the crap out of them! Was that right? NO but they didn’t know anything about us and they had never lived in our shoes. So don’t judge someone unless you have lived in their shoes. My daughter went to a local university and graduated in 4 years, debt free Suma Cum Laude at the top 10% of her class. She doesn’t drive so I had to drive her to all her classes but she did all the work. The only help we got because of her disability was handicapped parking the we paid for while we were on campus. I am beyond proud of my baby girl! My daughter is married with her first baby on the way. The baby is due in August but she will be born in July via C Section. My daughter cannot have her naturally because she doesn’t have the strength. My daughter can’t walk, she cannot transfer herself in or out of her power chair or anything for that matter. Her husband helps her with everything that she needs. Her husband will be the stay at home parent and she will be the breadwinner for the family. She works a corporate job and makes very good money. I am just trying to say ignore the negativity and the hater’s the best you can. Believe me I know it is hard but y’all will show those horrible people that they have no effect on y’all by living a good life and sharing the things that y’all share with us, your fans. I am one of them that will cheer y’all on every chance I get. Thank y’all for sharing everything that we get to see. I am so happy to see the snippets of y’all’s life. God bless y’all 💛❤️🍯🐝

Mama Mia that pasta sauce 😋, yeah that's on osprey they are dive bombers so instead of skimming the water like and eagle they put there wings in and dive for fish at high speed it's pretty wild. They build big platforms on some of the rivers by me for them to build nests to keep them off the power poles and cell towers.

New sub here! I love what you both are doing together and for each other. I actually get rude judgmental comments all the time because I work and my husband stays home and raises the kid's. I have coworkers saying some of the worst things about my 'lazy' husband . My husband worked and built our home completely by himself while I went to college. After we married we started on our family we both worked but after having the first baby we didn't want anyone taking care of our children and it just worked best for us and our kid's are the better for it! One is a doctor and the other is a vet! Always do what is best for you, you'll never make everyone happy. My son did his internship at the Cleveland clinic ❤amazing place

You probably have a lift picked out for your van, but I've seen one that I really like. It's called the Superarm. Other van lifers use this type as it takes up much less space and because of it's build, less to go wrong. Just thought I'd share. Take care!

To all the negative Nancy's who judge their relationship- having a spinal cord injury and medical issues that we go thru (I know 100% what they're dealing with as I have had a SCI since 2002). Pressure sores are no joke with our injuries. If you know/knew Christopher Reeve- his sore turned septic and that's what killed him so STOP judging. Nicholette is doing exactly what she should be doing! Having a willing partner to help out is a huge plus. My hubby and I have been married 30 yrs-21 of them I have been injured. He is also my caregiver, right down to helping me with my bowel care! Not everyone is cut out for this life, especially if either partner has to do bowel care. Digging around in your loved ones butt is not what we signed up for but because he loves me, we do it. We do what we have to for our loved ones...it's a sign of a strong relationaship! So let them live their lives and love one another. PS thanks for not showing the wound juice..LOL. It's pretty gnarly! SO happy you see you got rid of the wound vac! I've heard great things about Juven , just wish it wasn't so dang expensive. Unlikely insurance would cover it. Keeping fingers crossed this new plan works and you can avoid flap surgery. I've had 2 in 20 yrs after them trying for months on end to heal on their own. Next bad one I get I'm insisting they just do it and not dink around for months on end.

Gorgeous place to camp. The large bird was a hawk of some sort. Glad you guys are able to change the wound vac yourselves. They can be challenging for sure but do work. I remember when they put mine on, we tried packing it with seaweed. It worked somewhat. I thought it was weird when suggested but hey, we're game for anything to be able to get back to living our lives. What did you take for extra protein? The chocolate Premier Protein has 30g and tastes pretty decent. Praying the new wound clinic gets you healed soon. Hugs to you both . edit- the sun looking so weird is likely from the huge fires in Canada. It's bad all over that part of the country.

The passenger seat swivels and is used by Nicholette when she doesn’t have a pressure related injury that requires her lay down and avoid sitting. The chair you see on the passenger seat is her hiking wheelchair and we need to eventually get a rack to hold that outside of the van! We welcome any questions so no need to apologize!
