In this video I will show you how to steam clean a car exterior using a car steam cleaning machine
Steam car wash / Car exterior steam cleaning is very safe for the paintwork but as the steam is under pressure, you do need to be careful of any areas of paint chips, peeling lacquer etc. When steam cleaning car paint, it is a good idea to keep the car steamer moving and not to dwell too long in one location.
In the video, I show a comparison of a traditional wash of car shampoo vs car steam washing. What I found was that car steam cleaning lifted more of the ingrained dirt in one pass than normal shampoo did in 3x washes!
I’ve never had as much FUN washing a car as I do with Snow Foam! 😀 There’s something really satisfying about it! If you want to see how its done and what equipment you need, check out my video here

The car steam cleaning machine that I used in this video was a Sealey VMSC01 car steamer. I chose the Sealey steam cleaner because it has a powerful 2kw heater element and a large 2L water tank, which allows up to 30mins of continuous use. These attributes make it one of the best steam cleaners for car detailing (at this price point: £150GBP), whether you want it for steam cleaning a car exterior or for car interior steaming.
So in summary: My view is that steam cleaning a car exterior is both safe and also gives a much deeper clean than car shampoo. A steam car wash does take twice as long but it is worth it if you want the best possible exterior paintwork clean ahead of going to a car show or before further paint correction (such as machine polishing).
Note: It’s important to seal the paintwork after using a car steam cleaner with a good quality wax or ceramic coating. I have used before and had very good results with Meguiar's G190532SP Hybrid Ceramic Wax. EASY to APPLY and lasts for MONTHS!
Check it out, it get’s MEGA reviews for a reason…

The Sealey car steam cleaner is a well-made unit that does its job well. It gets great review too, so if you are interested in purchasing a good steamer for car detailing, then it is worth considering.

The Sealey machine isn’t available in NA. If you want a machine with good reviews and a similar tank capacity to the Sealey VMSC01, I would consider the McCulloch MC1275 it has a 48oz tank (1.5L)
McCULLOCH MC1275 1.5Kw 48oz (1.5L) tank

Would like to see the steamer used in conjunction with a mild clay bar used on new paint sometime if possible. :) My guess is if the car were clayed prior to the steamer, the steamer might have been more effective. Thanks for this. I didn't think a steamer was safe to use with a car exterior because I thought the heat might mar or melt the clearcoat.

Another useful video, thanks a lot. But, tbh I prefer to use steam cleaner only on wheels, front grills and trims that you can’t reach. In my opinion, Clay works better than steam on painted metal surfaces. Cheers

Hi Ahmet, thanks for your comment! I've seen a few people mentioning using steam on wheels but I haven't tried it yet. Believe it or not, I've never tried clay barring either but I've heard it gives great results on lifting dirt etc from the surface! cheers, Phil

@@ReviveMyRide Hi Phil, I’ve tried clay bar to lift the dirt/grime up, it worked very well. Strongly recommend to anyone. But I’m not sure whether clay bar is better than clay mitt/glove or not. Cheers

I have ordered a steam cleaner, currently waiting on it in the mail. Id considered using it to clean my car's exterior, since I also have sap. Thanks for the video, and also for diving deeper into it in the comments! I'll definitely be using the steam cleaner for the exterior too! Did you take extra precautions on the plastic bits?
@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 10 ай бұрын
No, I wasn't careful around the plastics, that's actually a really good point! Next time I use it, I'll take particular note but I haven't noticed any damage to the plastics, so hopefully the steam is ok with it. I haven't used mine for interior work yet and I think that is where they are most commonly used, so will have to give it a try!

@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide Жыл бұрын
Hi, the steam took longer than a normal clean but in my option gave a deeper clean and lifted more dirt. Hard to say exactly how much better, maybe only 20%? Would be useful for preventing dirt from getting ingrained or as one of the cleaning steps if you plan to buff the car with compounds.

What's the point of steam cleaning if you need to do a traditional wash first
@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide Ай бұрын
Hi, steam cleaning gives a deeper clean of the paint and works really well if for example you also plan to clay bar the paint. However snow foam pre wash and or washing the car first gets the majority of the dirt and grit off. Ideally you would rinse off your car, snow foam pre wash (these are both touchless cleaning methods), then wash the car using the two bucket method, clay bar it, buff / paint correction if required and then finally wax and seal the paint. I know this sounds a lot but some people are really into this! Cheers, Phil

I don't use mine a lot, maybe a dozen times since this vid was made? Always been happy with it! It was relatively new out when I bought it but I see it has mixed reviews. I'll be honest, if I was buying right now, there is a Karcher unit for about £15 more (I think it is on sale?) that has 2000 ratings and gets 4.5 stars, so seems to be the safer bet... amzn.to/4876hjV Hope that helps! I thought steam would be the alternative to a pressure washer...
@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 6 ай бұрын
You don't really get the same flow rate with the steam as you would with a pressure washer. Since you are lifting the dirt with steam and then wiping, it's best if the car is as clean as you can get it with normal washing before your start, so you are just lifting out the ingrained dirt. Thanks, Phil
