Ever wondered if you can download Netflix on Steam? Well, the answer is no. You can't download the Netflix app, nor Hulu, or any other streaming app. But there is a way to get Netflix on your Steam deck! In this video, I give you 7 simple steps to adding your favorite streaming apps in Game Mode on the Steam Deck!

They would have to release the apps in Steam. Last I know no one has any plans of doing that. Another option would be if there were official Linux versions of the apps.

I imagine it's mostly the developers of the streaming apps that aren't putting their apps on Steam. Also - in my testing, very few non-game apps work on the Steam Deck or Linux. I'd say the best option is really for Valve to allow websites to be added as non-Steam games. Which should be possible, as Steam itself uses Chromium for various features.

**THIS METHOD NO LONGER WORKS** I tried to trouble shoot why you can no longer add multiple Google Chrome applications to Steam. After I managed to get it to work, I found out that Chrome doesn't play Disney +, Crunchyroll, Paramount, etc on the browser. I then tried using Firefox and I was unable to get it to open up full-screened and it bugged out. The newest/easiest method if through EmuDeck! @@richanderson410 first off, thank you for the watch! I’m not sure why that would be. My guess is that something is wrong with the launch options. I would go back and try and redo enter the launch options, and see if that works. I just fired up my steam deck and everything’s works fine, so this method still checks out. Good luck!

@@TLDAcademy crap. I need help! Added Spotify and art. No issue. I just added the art on my desktop so it was easy to find. Did it for Amazon. Added art no issue. Now I'm trying to add art for Netflix. When I right click on a black spot and tap manage and then tap add art work. The Grey window that pops up allows me to navigate to desktop but it's not showing a single file. It was selected for png but I changed it to show all files and it's still a blank window. I opened file explorer and navigate to my desk top and they are all there. And of course I can see them on my desktop. But when I tap add artwork the Grey box to navigate there won't show me any files exist on my desktop. I moved the artwork to my pictures folder and literally the same thing. I tried to add art work for a demo game that had none. Also same issue. I did a reset on the SD but still no go.

@@TLDAcademy I just noticed something else weird. When I add Google Chrome to Steam. It shows up as a black box with no name. If I check properties everything is blank. Launch options, name, target. Everything. But yet it some how opens chrome if I click on it in steam

Liking this video for the first 30 seconds regarding every single Reddit etc post saying ahhhhh just go to desktop like you I wanted the APP!!!! P.s. I believe with most things rather than using RT to click you can just click on the right mouse track pad while your scrolling, have not tested this way but works in every game and desktop mode so far I've used :) good video bro!

Thanks for the video! I've made a couple of tweaks on my own set up: * Dropped the resolution parameters, I use it when docked to a TV so I need something a bit more flexible. Also decided to join the Steam beta, which allows setting the resolution in non-Steam games. * I removed --kiosk so I have a close button on the UI. I'm looking at other options (such as --app) - would be nice to be able to launch with only the title bar.

@@TLDAcademy . . . and since I removed the resolution adjustments, I've since added --start-maximized to start it filling as much as possible. Although I sometimes still need to tell a video to go full screen before the Steam Deck notices it can fill the whole screen.

@@logicalfundy ya, I notice that when I open the steaming services it’s not quite in a maximized window, but when I start watching a movie or show, I just click the full-screen button and then it maximizes the video to take up the full screen.

One thing ive noticed with this is that while it works almost perfectly in game mode, opening it on desktop mode without chrome already opened, will make it a full screen window you cant close unless you have a keyboard connected to force close or alt tab.

Highly suggest using the web browser controller preset as it sets up your mouse clicks and everything, much more robust of a control scheme.

Thanks for the video man. I got everything to work, tested in desktop mode and everything. When I try to run an app from gaming mode I get taken to login to chrome instead of the URL. I did delete the " " on accident but added them back. Any idea how to fix this?

I tested Amazon and it works but how do I close the non-steam game chrome that I started from the steam library? All I see is the google search bar in fullscreen and the buttons on the steam deck don't work at all not even Steam + B to force quit. Edit: clicking the top left corner helped.

I am using a keyboard, and I can't close the application with mouse and keyboard. The deck has the steam button, and most controllers have the home button which will pull up the menu to close the application. how can i close the application with just mouse and keyboard?

Hey Jackson, I'm sorry for only replying now...I hope you've been able to figure out your problem! When I'm in Netflix or Disney+, I'm able to hit the Steam Buttom and the menu pops-up for me that allows me to close the program.

This was easy enough: thanks. But I had such an issue to find the folder and icons for my app through Steam that I quit the whole thing after an hour of searching for the right method. Apparently, for some strange reason, Steam was very picky and wouldn't show me the required folder, no matter the location (tried everything). Never had this issue before with other non-Steam apps...

Thank you for making this video. I was only able to get Crunchyroll working. When I go to add chrome again it said flatpak then I copied over the info from the “Crunchyroll” properties but when I close out of it, it does not save my entries and it even removed the non-steam title which said flatpak now it’s just blank…I’m just going to have to find another way to add the other streaming services that I like. Thank you for your hard work tho.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, that's something that I experience, especially with the Flatpak going blank...super frustrating! Good thing EmuDeck made a utility that makes installing these cloud services super EASY and simple. In your written guide, you omit the spacing in the CLI command. These spaces are important, and Id suggest going back and amending them.

Such an easy video to follow! Got all my apps sorted and launched on the desktop but Spotify just hangs on the steam logo in game-mode. Any ideas where I messed up?

Hey Scott, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. You know, some of my streaming apps would do that from time to time..and the only fix I found was just restarting the deck and praying it works haha. Even loading games, it would do that. Anyways...hope everything has been good!

If you’re in Game Mode, you should be able to press the Steam Button and then you’ll be able to exit just like a game. If you’re in desktop mode it’s a little more tricky. I found pressing the L3 or L4 (back paddles) will show the taskbar again and you’ll be right click and close the program.

Hey man! Thanks for the watch. I appreciate. Yes, you have to do this for each streaming service. I don’t know what you mean by “chrome locks”. Basically once you’ve appended the launch options and renamed Google chrome to whatever the streaming service is, Steam will treat it like it’s own “app” or programs and you’ll be able to re-add Google chrome to do the next streaming service. I hope that helps. If not, please let me know!

Just a question, are you adding like a shortcut to the Netflix website through the gaming platform (outside of desktop) or is this like the actual app like the one you can use on your phone and also download shows/movies to watch offline later?

this tutorial is so helpful, thank you so much! I am having trouble with the logos though. for some reason when i go to home/deck/, it wont show any files. Do you know how to fix this? edit: Ive tried the other tutorial, and it still wont shows up!! i have my files but still nothing shows when i go to home/deck/. do you know if this is just a glitch or do i have to fix something in my steam deck?

I apologize for not replying earlier. I hope you were able to solve the problem you were having. My knee jerk reaction would be making sure you are selecting "All Files" in the drop down menu when you look for the logo files. They are a different type than the other main files.

Great video, however im confused how to duplicate chrome in steam each time i change launch options to add a new app, I added prime like you said and it worked, but then how do i edit chrome again for the next app when its now prime? I cant re add chrome in again to edit it?

I went a step further and used steam rom manager to add a category on steam named “Streaming” and put all my streaming apps there so it’s not cluttered in my library I like things organized lol

Hey! Thanks so much for watching. I’m glad the video was helpful for you. I’m not sure how you could make it bigger. I believe there is a setting to increase the size of the UI in your settings, but I’m not sure if it will affect the size of the mouse once you’re in the browser.

Technically no, you don’t need to update them because essentially what you’re setting up is a shortcut to that streaming service’s web player.

Amazing tutorial! Does anyone have a Controller layout that will work where I can moved my D pad and select titles that way? This method in this video works great for Xbox Cloud Gaming and like how I can move the D pad and select. Unfortunately, I cannot get that same feel for KZfaq nor Netflix. I only tried those two so far.

For Netflix, you can map the page up and page down buttons (under number pad) to the up and down buttons of the d pad and this will at least allow you to scroll up and down quicker. Also, you can map the left and right keys (again under the number pad) to the left and right buttons of the d pad and this will allow you to rewind and fast forward 10 seconds at a time. Haven't tried these with youtube, but they might work for it as well.
