This is a good video, looks cool and would like to try it out however I have no idea which Windows 11 Steam Deck install video you are talking about, you seem to have many on your channel so I just want to make sure I have the right one as there's no link to the specific video in the video description here. I just installed Windows the other day on my 1tb MicroSD and was going to use the internal 512SSD for Linux (SteamOS), but it looks like I'll have to reinstall everything on the main drive (which is fine with me, no important data, just dont know which guide to use). Thanks! So technically Windows 11 is installed and I already bought the activation code but I can't find the video you are refferjng to on how to install windows 11.

Does anyone know how this will handle various performance modes? I have not really found a good medium for running windows that allows the power to cycle up when needed, and accurately cycle down for low power requirements. I still find myself having to run performance mode in the battery settings when running games like MWII.

i just got my steam deck with a 1 terabyte internal high speed 4400mbps SSD and a 512 gb SD card how I want it. i have it filled up with some amazing games like dying light 2 dead island 2 and tons of others. But I hate all the compatibility stuff and not having access to half my games like my xbox games and also lots of cracked games or even just amazon prime or epic games games that won't run. although many do and I think this windeck OS would alleviate all those issues and no damn Proton BS. I like the setup other than that. I may do this once I see some benchmarks and comparisons if it is better than the stock linux OS. thanks for sharing.

How is the game performance between windows & steam os ? To be honest the point to have the netflix & prime video app from the store with download options would be a benefit on travels. The option to use PC Game Pass would be another great option. But what about the FPS comparrisson ???

I did this and yes you can add power tools which is a must personally if you want to play emulation. Battery life is good. Have this on my steam deck for over a month. Can also use fan control to make the fan quiet.

After the latest update. Every time i open handheld companion it goes through a process of setting up the controller and then every time i open emulation station i have to reconfigure the controller. Before this update emulation station remembered the controller configuration

Doing this with a dock helps a fair bit as its a lot easier to do when you have it on a monitor/TV with at least a mouse. Its worth running something like Snappy Driver Installer after as well as it get newer drivers and finds a driver for one of the unrecognised devices as well.

Have been missing Game Pass big time on my Deck as most of my Steam library is from humble bundles from 13+ years ago up until like 2017 and such, this seems like a good way to be able to break free from Linux without losing too much SteamOS native functionality.

If it were just for the navigation of opening games I wouldn't bother with installing this, there are ways to boot Windows straight into steam big picture mode, which has the same interface as the Steam Deck. The cool thing about WindeckOS are all the other features that it has.

You sure!? It looks it's basically a heavier version of a normal windows + steam big picture version, isn't it? A lite windows can take around 2 gb of ram, this one was 3gb! What's the advantages!?😅

Great point with the big picture mode but for me, the sleep mode was always a deal breaker, you would go into sleep mode but the machine would still run as well (might be fixed with hibernate mode) also I loved the way Linux does the sleep mode while playing a game. But its nice to see how much progress is being made in the space even if MSFT isn't investing time and energy into this space for gamers.@@behnamp9174

If you play the game in Windows mode, do you need to download SWICD too? If so, that means the cursor mode on the Right and Left touch screens can't function normally, right?

Does someone know how to make the launchers detect the controller inputs of the steam deck? Steam is the only launcher that has no problems with it, but all the other ones only recognize the trackpad as a mouse and the triggers as mouse click.

No battery and performance are the same. Sometimes slightly better one windows and sometimes slightly better on steamOS but the difference is negligible. Somethings to know: 1- TDP changing/fps cap isn't downloaded natively. So look for Steam Deck tools or handheld companion for that. 2- Controller for Non Steam Games does not work by default. Also this is solved by using either handheld companion or Steam deck tools. Good questions. I can only guess the answer to one of them. I'd imagine it can handle Steam updates. Steam would merely be the Windows client running in a Windows based OS. Any updates would be Valve updating for Windows which is their largest user base. Should be fine.

Yeah, I'd like to know if it'd be running the version of Windows my laptop does, my laptop is a 2 in 1 so sometimes I use it as a tablet, I'd like to have the same features across my devices if they're gonna be running the same OS. That being said, I'm certainly no stranger to Linux, I just want to play some games that aren't available for anti cheat reasons (or maybe ESO because I have that on Epic (it's free for another 4 days on the Epic Games store as of writing))

Yes it is essentially doing a recovery reinstall of your existing windows install. It shouldn’t need a new license. It will still handle windows updates it’s just slightly modified windows but it’s still windows. Steam runs and updates the same as it always has in windows. I would probably install both. The main difference between this and just steam deck tools is that you get the better sleep function, less bloat, boots straight into steam, and more seem less log in. This definitely a better overall solution but steam deck tools would still be useful for refresh rates, udp etc.

I had Windows Tiny working on the deck running from an sd card (not optimised running off an SD) and the fan just wouldn’t settle… being on desktop alone the fan was going crazy.. I didn’t feel comfortable running like that so I sacked it off! I hope a clear and stable version of windows on the deck becalmed a thing but to be fair to valve all they really need to do is support non steam games better and sort the anti cheat issue.

This is very cool, but it lacks a few essential features like fsr, 40hz, tdp limit etc. It also doesn't have the adrenalin/ccc software so we can't boost the dull default colors etc. I was hoping this would be the end of dual boot, but it looks like I will have to reinstall steamos for now.

Largefriendly Lop's youtube channel is the creator of this Windows Mod. He has a few vids about it and says sleep works if this is installed to the SSD. Has problems with sleep if installed on SD card. Everything else works on SD card.

WinDeck is just a modified Windows 11 image. So it will be win11 if you install it. And it's not really recommended to install windows onto the SD card as windows constantly reads and writes data, shortening the life span of SD cards. You're better off partitioning a part of your SSD and dual booting like that

My experience has found that games on windows run more stable. Linux kept crashing a lot of my games after a few minutes (sometimes instantly) no matter which proton I selected

The screen of the steam deck is 720p max when you feed it a higher resolution it won't work. Your only way is to buy a deckHD screen and replace your deck screen.

Yea it would come in handy. Have you chosen the resolution first in handheld companion before changing it in the game. If the game and the resolution don't match it may cause that problem.

What about the PS5 remote play app. The control works in the ps interface but not when a game launches. Thats the one issue I need someone to show me hot to fix.

Try handheld companion and turn the controller to ps4 dualshock it should work

@@TA_Tech Should steam be opened or close. HIC appears to make it not controllable at all compared to when i just have steam minimized. This video is great btw. The OS works damn near perfect.

Do not use SD cards for windows they will corrupt after a couple months. Use a flash drive if you really want windows on your deck

yea i bought a 512GB stopped working after a month with Windows. Now i just bought another and use the SD card for music or movies that's all.

Image the sd card on a pc using the same files you shown, then just boot it on the deck. you'll save 20-30 minutes depending on how fast is your pc
