Steam In The Snow - Conway Scenic Railroad (HD)

( www.lerroproductions.com ) A photo charter was hosted by Lerro Productions at the Conway scenic railroad during the first days of 2009. I was fortunate enough to be able to make the trip up to New Hampshire and film this rarity; a steam-powered freight train in the snow! Much thanks goes out to Pete Lerro and his crew for making this a memorable and worthwhile event. The cold temperatures were brutal, dropping to around zero during the Night Photo Session with 40 mile an hour gusts. Despite the frigid conditions, a fruitfull weekend was had for all of the photographers/videographers on hand. Hope you enjoy the video.

If ever there was a "wish I were there" steam video, this is it or, at the very least, a candidate for first place. Cold out? Bundle up! Makes me wish we could go back to the days of steam, cabooses, etc. -- even if just on an "in some segments" basis. Thanks much for this treasure!

I live about 50 miles from the Conway scenic railroad, been there numerous times, but have NEVER been lucky enough to see the steamer, let alone ride her.

This remindes me of the 1952 postwar lionel set I run under my christmas tree that my dad gave me and I will never give up, it will be passed onto a 3rd generation. Mind you this set is now 58 years old and runs great where as toys I had in the 80's lasted less than a year.

Nothing short of awesome! Remember CSRR's 1st season back in the mid '70s. They have truly come a long way! Superb video. Really captures the beauty of a New Hampshire winter.

An 0-6-0 on the main is unorthodox, to say the least, but it's steam. Great selection of cars, too.

@shininghappyperson7 Ya know, thats what I thought when I went to do this. "Oh its just a switcher, its great to see a steam train but still..." I thought to myself. This engine is very unique, it dosent feel like a little yard goat when your around it. i think this engine is great, and you really have to see it for yourself to truely aprreciate it (unless you already have)

The scenery there is absolutely beautiful! It reminds me of western Newfoundland and almost brings a tear to my eye to know the trains don't run there anymore. ;-(

@shininghappyperson7 I know what you mean. Ever been to the Connecticut valley railroad in essex? The steam engine there is a 2-8-2 logging mikado, and when she limbs the grade at a good speed it sounds fantastic. Its more of an overall feeling than a sound.

You must need glasses. The 470 railroad club that owns those freight cars, have allowed them to fall into a state of rust, rot and decay. The State of Maine car is a perfect example. If you were able to view this equipment in better weather and lighting situation you would notice right away.

@WhyAyeMann Checked the Mass Bay website and they said the run is still on for Saturday. CSRR will keep the tracks open. If they get a foot of snow, should be some great footage.

unionpacific88 because 7470 was a shunter in her early days, sometimes she would be used for regular freight trains. And therefore would need a stronger whistles as shunters could only have nothing more than a 3 chime
